London is an amazing city...hope you are having a great visit! With two thousand years of history, it can be a bit overwhelming, particularly for a first-time visitor. It's too bad you didn't have a local with you to explain some of the sights you passed. For instance, that two-storey Palladian-style building with the ornate facade(16:08) to your left on Whitehall, just before the entrance to Downing St.(and well before that rather formidable-looking woman in the brown skirt popped into view, lol), is called Banqueting House. Designed by Inigo Jones, it is the only surviving building from the original Palace of Whitehall, Henry VIIIs favourite, which burned down in 1697(also from which today's street and government quarter gets its name). That palace was more a warren of dozens of buildings interconnected by courtyards and twisting passageways, rather than a single unified structure like later palaces. The Banqueting House was the first in a series of new buildings intended to 'modernize' and bring harmony to, what by the beginning of the 17th century, was considered a very 'old fashioned' Tudor palace, and it has a magnificent painted ceiling by Rubens. It was here that the real North American Indian 'princess' Pocahontas was presented to King James I, and it was from a scaffolding erected outside of it that his son, King Charles I, was beheaded in 1649. Apparently, he was led through a first-floor window to the executioner's platform and insisted on wearing two shirts so that he wouldn't shiver from the chill January air, lest the crowd gathered to watch might think he was shaking from fear. Beyond those gates you were peering through is a large, open outdoor area called 'Horse Guards Parade', which in Tudor times was the palace's 'tilt yard', where jousting tournaments were held, and just about where Keir Starmer and family are now settling in at No. 10 Downing St., was once the palace's 'cock fighting' pit(somewhat fitting for the epicentre of UK government, lol). While 'Big Ben'(the name of the bell, not the clock tower, which is officially named 'Elizabeth Tower') may be the most iconic part of the Houses of Parliament, Westminster Hall is arguably its most magnificent. Built in 1097, this enormous hall, along with the Jewel Tower, an internal cloister and an undercroft chapel beneath St. Stephen's Hall, are the only surviving remnants of the original medieval Palace of Westminster, which burned down in 1834(yes, again fire!). This ancient great hall contains the world's largest clear-span hammer-beam roof, and has been used for trials(again, Charles I, Thomas More, and Guy Fawkes to name a few) and lying in state of individuals such as William Gladstone, Winston Churchill, and most recently Queen Elizabeth II. Both it and the Banqueting House are usually open to the public.

When you do a livestream, be cautious about phone snatchers in the areas you visit. When we were there last month, we saw people on bikes snatching phones from pedestrians on the sidewalk. Be very careful of this! Phone snatching is common in popular spots in London, and the snatchers usually wore black.

Cell phone snatchers are on the rise there, so be wary of bicycle riders that get too close!
