That’s looks like sad cement weather struck next door. I got told you should never do that on solid brickwork as water soaks through the brick and isn’t able to escape through the lime mortar as the lime can’t breath and that why you get damp patches inside

It is weather struck and cut ,probably done with white cement , hydrated lime and fine sand . It is just rubbish , probably learned by watching the idiots on RU-vid , there are enough of them !!!

Does grinding the face off the brick not take the strength away from the brick itself? Your removing the hard enamel and exposing the softer brick in behind

No it won’t it’s proved over time it’s completely fine !! New soft imperial red bricks don’t come with a Hard face

tidy as ever but id like to see you pause a little longer on the finished article, it really is beautiful craftsmanship but I wish you would do a few closeups. the penny roll and the tuck pointing are all done so well.

That is excellent work and a credit to art of masonry re-pointing. I'm curious, is your term, 'penny roll pointing', a local vernacular for tuck-pointing? Or have you put the stopping material in and then rolled or did you cut it as traditional tuck-pointing is done?

Its penny struck, or as he says penny rolled. Not tuck pointing. Small groove made rather than the other one which is highlighted with white mortar

Very nice and tidy job. Can I ask you how do you clean the bricks? The red soft is very delicate I have tried to clean them with pressure washer but this damages the brick

We don’t do weather struck finish it’s a rough finish for your average builder

Let's tell it like it is -the penny roll finish doesn't have any pointing in the finished joint as the thin joints are set back a few mill meaning water will stay in the recessed joint and not run away as simple as the weather struck and even worse when it freezes as water expands.The weather pointing if done right( raked out washed down and strong mix} will repel the the water which is why it's called weather pointing and it'll be there for decades.If the penny roll had been filled in with sand and cement or lime like tuck pointing then it would have been a different matter as the joints aren't left exposed.

@@londonrepointingrestoratio4275 I come from a line of pointers[myself included} going back to the 50s.I'm also a time served bricklayer 40+yrs experience it's what I do for a living.
