Tricky question there y'all! The great thing is they ALL look wonderful. However, the Batik (Matt) & the Earthtone (Donna) are neck and neck in color choices for me. Calling it a TIE!

You both chose beautiful fabrics. I am partial to the brown and gold combination. But then again, I think of the table runner made with the patriotic fabrics. Would make a very nice table runner for July.

Your method for cutting and piecing the Lone Star makes this a pattern I want to try. When my Mom made a full size Lone Star Quilt in the 70's, she used cardboard templates she drew and cut out (which spread as she used them). Each diamond was cut out separately, and she fussed with all those Y seams! It was so involved-I never would have been motivated to try!

Donna and Matt, as sidenote: I work part time at Panera (retired here) and yesterday ran into two Lady's that are quilters (one had a pattern for a baby blanket on her table). As quilters do, we chatted and quickly turned to doing a Lone Star. I told them about your channel. Told both of them about your tutorial on the Lone Star and just how EASY and clear it was. They whipped out their cells so quickly it almost gave them carpal tunnel, lol! Gotta love the fact that we quilters not only watch, but spread the word on great tutorials!

Hi Donna, I have to say you're a great tutorial. I'm a Korean grandma and so good at English. But I can understand you very well. Your direction is very clear and you also show us, if we do it wrong or another way it will turn out this way. I haven't made any quilt project yet, but I am tempted to start one soon. I'm was afraid I will get stuck in the middle of the project.

I've always loved patriotic fabrics! I've ordered some patriotic fabrics to do a quilt for my sons 50th birthday. He is in law enforcement and so the center star will be blue of course to represent The Blue Line. Just received the fabrics today and will get started tomorrow as I'm watching the videos tonight.

This is brilliant. Just brilliant. Have always wanted to make a lone star, but didn’t want to deal with the bias with individual diamonds. Appreciate the samples in different colorways. Can’t wait to see the video for this in a larger size - I don’t do wallhangings. Would love to do a lap- or twin-sized quilt with this method!

@sevenandthelittlestmew

I know you posted this last year, but I think this warrants a response (and I agree wholeheartedly, it was not clearly explained, and Jordan Fabrics has not responded). Cut one 9.5 strip of background fabric by width of fabric (which is cutting your yard or half yard of fabric straight from one selvage edge to the other in a straight line), and one 7 inch strip, also by WOF. Cut off the selvages. Subcut the 9.5 inch fabric strip into 4 squares, 9.5 x 9.5 inches. Subcut the 7 inch strip into 4 squares, 7 x 7 inches (you will have fabric leftover from these strips, add to scraps or discard). Cut each of these squares in half diagonally. Follow Donna’s instructions from here, remembering that the straight of grain edges are the 9.5 and 7 inch, not the diagonal (bias) edge. Remember, when sewing these biased edges onto the star points, the straight of grain should match the grain lines on the star points, so that everything lays straight and flat when sewn and pressed. It will make your final product lay really nice. I sure hope this is helpful! 😊
