Thanks for these videos. I'm having a hard time choosing between waiting for the assault to become available again or just getting the hand climber 2 immediately. I'm hunting out of a 27lb summit and the thing is clunky as heck.
@@christianreiber26 Based on the message on their website, it looks like Spring of next year. I'd recommend checking craigslist or facebook market. I've seen some on there, just nowhere near where I live.
Hard decision! If it were me I’d probably get what was available now and use it till the one I wanted was available and buy it. Then sell the first one. Seems to be good demand for these climbers so it would likely sell fast.
The ring on the phone was an excellent idea. I got one off amazon and tethered my phone. For sure puts your mind at ease. I’m still struggling with the climbing with this stand but seeing where you placed your hands when lifting the platform helped tremendously. Great video.
Thanks for the comment, I appreciate the positive feedback. Climbing with the stand takes some practice. I’m glad the video was beneficial. I have redundancies for most everything I have in the stand, including my phone. I’ve dropped so many things over the years. I’ve learned the hard way...
@@northofdetroitoutdoors7404 I am an expert at retrieving things with a rubber strap with a hook, my pull up rope, and my binos to see! 😂 Good luck this season and Merry Christmas.
Been on RU-vid for a Long time, BEST review and video I have seen! Thanks for your time and Info. Good Luck... Bucks going Crazy here in Iowa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Have a Summit Viper on the way. Should go up the tree rapidly with the rocket launcher I have planned for it. 😵 Actually I'm getting it to trim smaller branches. A man lift costs about the same for 8 hours rental. Will see how it goes this spring.
you made this look much easier than the one time i used this stand in the woods. i've also watch some other demonstrations. i think your choice of a smaller tree is also a good idea. thanks for the video
My pleasure! Thanks for the comment! The stand can be tricky to use at first. Most people struggle with where to place their hands as they climb since there is so little room on the seat. Most of the strain for me is felt in my wrists as my hands have to be a bit contorted while my forearms are flat on the seat, especially after hunting several days in a row.
@@mikemellon80 That bow holder is worth its weight in gold! What’s great is that you can have ur bow within inches of your hand to grab with hardly any movement when the time comes. Great investment!
Great presentation Don! The phone tether is an excellent idea. I checked my Fanatic Jacket and hoodie and didn’t find any wear marks or pilling on the material. I also received the Celsius Midi Jacket and the Equinox Midi Pants from UPS today. The tapered legs and sleeves are excellent. It was quite windy and cool up here in the U.P. today, so I put on the jacket, pants, and Fanatic hoodie and went outside. No wind got through. I believe they’ll work great under the Fanatic jacket and bibs when the temperature really dips.
You are probably the only person I've seen comment on the importance of tethering the phone to yourself and why you do it... Best advice in this entire video because when you really need it you really really need it..... Ever considered a climbing harness instead of the full body harness? I'm using one mainly because I also rock climb but it is more comfortable to me than the standard harness..... Great video BTW
Thanks for reaching out! I appreciate the comment. Believe me, I’ve learned from unpleasant experience how important it is to tether the most important items. I’ve not even looked into a climbing harness as I don’t rock climb. I’ll have to do some research to see how it differs and whether it might be worth the switch. Thanks for the info!
Great videos you are making. I have been using my hand climber since 2009. It is my favorite stand in my arsenal. I will take it over a hang on and a saddle anyway of the week. Oh and shhhh, I climb around limbs!
Just purchased this climber last week. Your tutorial was very informative. Was able to use it this past week. I could only stay in it for about three hours at a time bc my lower half would start to get numb and I started to cramp up. Also, I was only going about 18 feet up, and for someone new to climbers, I was a little nervous. I guess more practice next spring/summer will allow me to be more comfortable up there on the platform. Thanks for all the info! Sub’d‼️
Hey Scotty! Thanks for the comment! Well it’s not the most comfortable stand but it’s not unlike a lot of hang on stands out there. For me, the main determining factor in comfort is the tree itself. I was in one this weekend that was terrible; lumps and bumps had me wishing I had never climbed it. Also if a tree is curved a bit make sure you are not sitting on that side of the tree that is curving toward you! If you have had surgery I wouldn’t recommend this stand.
I’ve had the stand for less than two years, so I haven’t needed to change it yet. By the looks of it I don’t think I’ll need to change it anytime soon either. It’s a very robust belt that seems very resistant to wear. In fact it still looks/feels brand new. Don’t think I’ll need the longer belt either as I typically try to stick to trees from 12-15 inches, ideally. Thanks for reaching out! Good luck this year!
Is that a custom made rope for the tree or something you bought? I like the setup as your harness and the rope moves up but you are never unprotected. Can you share that set up
That’s hard to answer. The stand has the space I need to be effective. As a mobile hunter I chose this stand for maximum mobility and was willing to sacrifice comfort and space for a small and lightweight package. Everyone has different priorities. As you can see from the video space is minimal.
