Great follow-up video. I would like to see a close-up of the foot buckle. I posted on your earlier video that I also use a Loggy Bayou hand climber. Once up the tree, I loosen it and kinda lay it down...still around the tree,...over the hand climber...it stays completely out of the way. I then run a strap around the tree to secure the hand climber.
Johnny I love this! I think I caught your video with your cousin when it first came out. I have 2 LWHC's now. Light weight, effortless to climb with and it's your platform too. I'm like you, I bought a strap to tighten it to the tree but I never use it. Thanks for sharing this stuff! Bob
Bob, I'm glad you like it. It's great how you agree it is effortless to climb with. There are some young guys who think it's hard lol....stay tuned for part 5 after I stop chasing these deer around.
Thanks guy. I drilled and made my modification this morning It literally took 10 minutes. I used a bolt and a lock nut. As for boot holder, I used a flat bungee and tied cording to lift up. I immediately went out to the park and tested. I was sold after 3 moves up. This literally is a game changer. I still think I'll carry in 1 stick in case i have to start higher because of wide base trees. This is freaking awesome.
@@johnnypalmer2574 1 more thing I just did: I added a Hawk Hawk Hawk stick strap to the outside edges of the rear of the platform. The side with the buckle is tied on. The other side has a carabiner. Once I have the platform attached to the tree, I clamp in the strap loosely. I then Nite Ize connect the center of the Hawk strap to the center of the Lone Wolf platform band. This keeps it out of the way while climbing. At climbing height, I disconnect the Nite Ize, and, pull the Hawk strap tight. Thus, extra support for the platform
@@jimste5898 I've only strapped it to the tree once while hunting, ever. It is rock solid that way but I never feel the need for it. Sometimes I slip my feet under the foot strap and pivot the platform and myself around the tree a little for the shot.
Funny you mentioned the rubber piece. I didn’t want to drill mine so I split a rubber hose and put around the tubing. I put adhesive on it and several zip ties. Works like a charm. Good video.
Johnny this a great idea and the Lone Wolf climbers are built rock solid that's for sure. I urge my buddies that use the Lone Wolf climbers to incorporate a saddle and tether so that if they encounter a branch or branches while climbing they can redirect around them. Also if done slowly and carefully you can climb with almost no noise with those Lone Wolf bands. The only thing I would suggest is to add a Squirrel step or two to the stabilizer strap on each side of the platform and a rappel rope as SRT Saddle Hunter suggested. Great system and thanks for sharing!
You did a great job. I bought one!! Have other systems but I can see this’ll best all the others. You have my thanks for sure. Our acreage has tons of tall straight maples 8-16”. I will use it a lot.
I think I will do a video on some tips and tricks with the HC that make it easier to use. Some people say it's effortless to use but some have a more difficult time.
Great video man.. started climbing with the LWHC, w/o the bolt mod, had to readjust a lot. Went ahead and saw your video and tried the bolt mod and so far so good. Less adjustment needed. Thank you.
Johnny Palmer - Adrena123 so if the tree has limbs you take sticks and then set up the LWHC once you get to your desired height? Also what saddle are you running? I’m just getting into saddle hunting and didn’t want to spend money for a lone wolf custom gear platform but came across these videos and realized I already have the LWHC top so that will save myself many dollars. Thanks!
@@Outdoorswithcliff I personally use a ring off steps when using my sticks. I do know other guys who use the HC/sticks together and they usually strap the HC to make it rock solid. I use a aerohunter kite size 2 since 2017. Before that It was my TL ambush...Both are mesh
finally broke down and bought the hand climber. but gonna do a little differently by using my predator climbing rope as my tether and just repel down using a grigri
Gonna have to modify one of my climbing tree stands, the hand climber of a summit or river’s edge climbing stand, make a climbing tree saddle platform. Have been using my summit climbing stand along with a tree saddle,
Can’t find them! What happened? Safety issues? Litigations? I’m new to saddle hunting and felt this was my best option to get in a tree. Any advice? I’ll make my own if I have to. Thanks!
What about instead of drilling a hole, add a JB Weld shim (add material to the angle where the platform rests) that would basically become part of the metal, which would negate the danger of weakening the structure?
Nice video I just started to practice with the hand climber wasn’t to sure about it at first but it’s really working great definitely a method I’ll be using this fall
Lol... so last year I personally knew of 30 that we're bought and modified. But after talking to some people around the country and a guy on the face book saddle hunter, the number is around 100!! I haven't received my commission yet..hahaha Hahahaha
This upper seat platform can break if its at an angle and you stand at the front, take it from me its a good idea but the cable band will need to be adjusted part way up the tree its just clumsy sorry i think if you go with tree spurs and a small teathered predator it is the best idea for climbing method and platform.
I think you should have run the bolt through the brown tube instead of drilling through the cast. I'm not am engineer but it seems that to fail you would have to crush the tube which seems like it would be a lot more difficult than breaking a cast. If you got fancy you could also mount a nut inside the tube so you would only have to drill through one side of it. Otherwise I have the same set up and use it occasionally on really tall straight trees. I single stick most often but that gets old when you have to move 15 times.
It would have to be a considerably small nut and bolt since the band has to slide back and forth through the brown square tube. As far as drilling goes, lone wolf drilled holes in the cast to mount the arms so it didn't bother me to drill mine. Again, I've had 0 issues.
I thought I saw someone made a part that attaches to the climber and gives you the angle without doing the bolt mod...also you guys should look into using a repel gear...makes life much easier getting down
Thanks for the update! I've been wondering how you guys have been doing with the hand climber/Saddle combo. I'm using a summit platform and a Petzl gri-gri for ascend/descend.
How is that working out? Are you using the foot or hand part for the platform, was thinking of modifying my summit hand part to be my saddle platddform
@@kennethrogers1129 I actually only used it once. I got a Tethrd platform and went back to a one stick climbing method along with the gri-gri for quick rappelling. I've been one sticking for years, so I prefer this method.
Yes you can get around limbs but I personally don't unless it's like 1 limb. I would take my beast sticks if a tree has limbs. 99% of the time I know where I'm going and what tree I'm hunting in. I'm not much of a " run n gunner" so I know what tool to take ahead of time. 50% of my hunts are mornings so you can't run n gun in the dark anyway. If your ok with that you won't regret using a LWHC. Your saddle and a 4lb climbing method / platform is killer... Good luck.
Love the idea. I was thinking about buying the ultra lightweight lwcg stand and stick combo then I looked at buying the hand climber again becuase I realize 90% of my trees i hunt with saddles are straight trees anyways. My question about saddle hunting is I keep getting my shot oppurtunitys on my weak side. How do you successfully shoot on your weak side in a saddle? So much movement required?
I'm glad you see the value in the HC and that's a great question about shooting from the weak side. I should make a video on it. I have seen videos of guys shooting the weak side off other platforms. It would be the same if course. I think tethrd has one if you search. You basically turn and the tether comes across your chest like a seat belt and your back is to the tree. Tricky to have the right length though. I would rather slide my feet under the foot strap and pivot around the tree. It only takes a little bit too make a shot opportunity. Of course it all depends on where the deer are and the situation. I try my best to set up on my strong side. I have a flexible friend who can shoot weak side over the bridge off a ring of steps...crazy
5/16 bolt and couple...so move the arm to 50 degrees and hold the couple nut in place. Take a shaved down pencil and stick it inside the couple nut and mark for the hole. Drill hole...easiest way to do it...let me know if you have anymore questions.
That is a good question...I'm using the original length belt with no issues but the extended belt would be a great replacement. Mine is still in the package. I use my HC a lot and haven't needed the longer belt yet.
@@johnnypalmer2574 I did your bolt mod on a hand climber seat. I added a few extras of my own. #1 I replaced the arm bolts with 1 1/4" x 5/16" to make a versa button with a fender washer. This mod is used to attach a strap (boat buckle/amsteel daisy chain). I removed the hook from the boat buckle strap and girth hitched a daisy chain to the loop where the hook was. The other end on the nylon strap is permantly fastened to the right versa button and hangs while climbing. At hunting height from a deep squat I put the daisy chain around the tree and on the left button coming up from underneath the platform. Then I pull slack and cam the buckle. Rock solid and can shoot 360 by pushing around the tree. #2 I also wrapped the sides and front with a cobra weave for added traction to push off the platform. After a dozen or more climbs and half of those sitting all day I really like it. ???What tether rope are you using? I am having some slipping issues with my kong duck on 8mm rope. I think it's because of fully loading the rope repeatedly in the same spot while climbing. The rope is flattening out in short sections and slipping a couple inches in those spots.
@@jasonsandefur9307 sounds like you made some great mods. My tether is a 11 millimeter static line and I use a rope man 1. I never have slippage issues. I like the stiffer static line because it holds is shape while sliding it up the tree and it's tough. I just retired it and need a replacement. I'm using a HSS rope at the moment. Its ok but not as tough in the long run.
It’s a little cheaper to order from Optics Planet vs direct from Lone Wolf. www.opticsplanet.com/lone-wolf-treestands-hand-climber-tree-stand-seat.html
Whats up Johnny so i've been watching your vids a ton seen all the mods etc coooool stuff if i may say so! you guys are awesome and helped a ton. My lone wolf cracked on me the second time out!! so got that fixed but i must say i gave up on your climbing system due to the same issues u had. i heard about your bolt mod but felt uncomfortable with the idea since it cracked once already. I have now been using 3x 20 inch heliums with a 4 step aider, and the lonewolf as my platform love the whole set up.... but i keep on going back to your first system so i will give it some angle and give it another go thanks for doing this video and showing us how to make this work!!! cheers.
Thanks!! So I had to read this twice but now I get it. Your HC cracked before modding it, crazy. Fortunately you can use other things besides a bolt to get those arms to a 50 degree angle. If you use rubber in between and zip tie or hose clamp it down, it works great. I never fold mine flat anyway. I strap it to my pack with the band folded in or sling the band over my opposite shoulder and wear it like a man purse...hah haha
@@johnnypalmer2574 Yes after watching this vid i realized that i could still give it 50 degrees using like u said a rubber washer etc. The crack is only on the front on the outer edge butvlike i said it has been fixed. Thanks again for the info and sharing, im exited to try this out again this weekend!!!
So I've been tearing up the woods using your bolt mod on the lonewolf and your way of climbing. THIS IS MY CONCLUSION. 1) The smaller the tree the easier it is to climb. If the tree is smaller than the width of the climber then its easier. 2) The straighter the tree the easier it is to climb. LITTERALY ANGLES SUCK!! 3) The Bark of the tree matters if it is too rough it WILL BE MORE DIFFICULT TO CLIMB the rubber strap snags on the bark and makes it tough. So now i carry the lonewolf, 3 twenty inch heliums and 4 step aider. Depending on the tree is what i use but i can't just walk in with one system!!
White oaks are fun too. Easy to climb but everytime you raise the tether, it rains bark. Wearing a hat with a bill deflects the bark and keeps it out of your eyes and your shirt...fun times
@@johnnypalmer2574whats fun is when things slip because of the bark!!!!!The tree thats on my HATE list i think is the hackberry tree( if i am correct). Thats a no climb tree damn thing just chews the rope and snags the strap non stop!! But good work out and great execise in vocabulary yelling at the sky!!!!!😂
