Try the S.M.A.R.T. climbing method, with that climber (would if I had one). You can see it in (One Stixing like a BOSS) video. It's all advancing the rope. It will be like chocolate, and PeanutButter. Have you ever climbed down and left the rappel rope to go back up? It's like that. It will be safer, easier, and quick. I hope you like it.
So fast forward four years from your video, why hasn’t accompany even Lonewolf come out with a modified single platform for saddle hunting, combination? I’ve only seen one. It was poorly designed and very heavy. I’m assuming Lonewolf won’t just sell me half of a climbing stand ? As soon as someone comes out with one, I’ll be getting rid of my sticks.
Well your in luck...if you like them Ofcourse. I just saw two new ones come out about a month ago. One seems decent, the other kinda not. The one is called panther platforms I think. I'm still using my LW but I modified it about 2 yrs ago with more length so I can turn freely like a hang on stand will allow. That is why I don't like or use saddle platforms, to small. Damn 4 yrs and no videos, time fly's. The internet and social media is such a double edged sword to me, that's why. So much BS out there but there is good stuff too. ..I might get the bug again
My body weight keeps it locked and I keep my feet under my foot strap. If leaning to the side for a shot is not enough ( usually is ) I'll bring/pivot the platform around the tree a little bit. Like if you were stepping around on a ring of steps.
Please don't crucify me.... do you use a rope to protect against losing the hand climber part? If so, where do you hook it too? What do you do during the hunt. I love this method and will 110% give it a shot!
Can’t find them! What happened? Safety issues? Litigations? I’m new to saddle hunting and felt this was my best option to get in a tree. Any advice? I’ll make my own if I have to. Thanks!
What happens when that slips off your feet and you are hanging there with no way to climb down? All the climbing stands have the top and bottom tied together to prevent that.
What about instead of drilling a hole, add a JB Weld shim (add material to the angle where the platform rests) that would basically become part of the metal, which would negate the danger of weakening the structure?
I have been trying to come up with something that would work like that thank you for sharing that is going to be with my setup have a Merry Christmas and a happy new year
Why would you cut the leg straps off and void the warranty when you could just roll them up and zip tie them out of the way or loosen them up when you get to hunting height? Also, all safety harnesses and saddles have leg straps because they are necessary or the manufacturers wouldn't put them on the saddle in the first place. Just ask anyone in the arborist industry, rock climbers, window washers, or anyone that works at heights. You will never see them cutting their leg straps off or modifying their saddles or harnesses in that way.
Johnny this a great idea and the Lone Wolf climbers are built rock solid that's for sure. I urge my buddies that use the Lone Wolf climbers to incorporate a saddle and tether so that if they encounter a branch or branches while climbing they can redirect around them. Also if done slowly and carefully you can climb with almost no noise with those Lone Wolf bands. The only thing I would suggest is to add a Squirrel step or two to the stabilizer strap on each side of the platform and a rappel rope as SRT Saddle Hunter suggested. Great system and thanks for sharing!
The problem is, you can only point your ankles/feet so far down to create the stand angle that achieves more clearance for the belt. The mod artificially increases the stand angle and when added with max foot angle, creates the extra belt clearance. If you could increase the foot angle, you wouldn’t need to mod the stand. How about a wedged shape piece of dense foam under your forefeet? It would compress when you stand on it, but as soon as you take your weight off of it, it would push against the stand creating a steeper angle. When combined with max foot angle it would effectively create a steeper stand angle, producing the same type of “clearance” as your mod. I just bought a top. I will try this out soon and see how it works. If it works, you wouldn’t need to “mod” your stand. I have seen some stands eventually break at the mod bolt hole if not perfectly.
No...you need to get a LWHC in your hand. Put it around the tree by hand. Angle it any way you want by hand and you will see the band is to choose to the tree. I know of 2 that broke that were UNmodded because people bounce on them. Mine and about 90 others out there are still going strong so I think it works for most people.
Thanks for the shout out!! I've seen it flipped before and I'm sure it works fine with the teeth at a different angle. I tell people all the time, whatever it takes to get those arms at 50 degrees is what matters. My OG LWHC still going strong.
Gonna have to modify one of my climbing tree stands, the hand climber of a summit or river’s edge climbing stand, make a climbing tree saddle platform. Have been using my summit climbing stand along with a tree saddle,
Thanks guy. I drilled and made my modification this morning It literally took 10 minutes. I used a bolt and a lock nut. As for boot holder, I used a flat bungee and tied cording to lift up. I immediately went out to the park and tested. I was sold after 3 moves up. This literally is a game changer. I still think I'll carry in 1 stick in case i have to start higher because of wide base trees. This is freaking awesome.
@@johnnypalmer2574 1 more thing I just did: I added a Hawk Hawk Hawk stick strap to the outside edges of the rear of the platform. The side with the buckle is tied on. The other side has a carabiner. Once I have the platform attached to the tree, I clamp in the strap loosely. I then Nite Ize connect the center of the Hawk strap to the center of the Lone Wolf platform band. This keeps it out of the way while climbing. At climbing height, I disconnect the Nite Ize, and, pull the Hawk strap tight. Thus, extra support for the platform
@@jimste5898 I've only strapped it to the tree once while hunting, ever. It is rock solid that way but I never feel the need for it. Sometimes I slip my feet under the foot strap and pivot the platform and myself around the tree a little for the shot.
The amount of problems you Saddle hunters have to solve is endless. I did the saddle thing for years and gave up on it. It’s an endless stream of challenges and problems to overcome. Not worth the trouble.
I’ve seen this on another vid and I like it much better than sticks....and you don’t run out of sticks. The summit utility strap (2 for $10) that has a tourniquet buckle works great for cinching the stand to the tree. I do that with my upper on my viper. Good vid!
Very good video. The angle from the factory is INCORRECT! needs to be closer to a 45degrees.This guy has figured it out. It helps with the clearance of the floppy belt. It helps with the "inline pull of the floppy belt. make the teeth bite directly into the tree.100% certain!
Hey Johnny, thank you for your help out in the field the other day about saddle hunting. I have since purchased a helix saddle. I figured out a great way to move the bottom platform up faster for us guys with bad knees. I put a rope on all four corners and I am able to pull it up while pushing away from the tree with my feet.
