I agree with the other commenter: best part of this kit is the bag it comes in! An ok kit for under $18 at Wal---and ample room to create a personalized mini disaster kit that might actually live up to the "Lone Wolf" moniker. The Be Smart Get Prepared first aid kits are quite good, so I trust the brand.
Interesting twist on the type of kit shown. The vibe I got from this one is more of an inclement weather disaster/urban or suburban disaster rescue scenario rather than a “lost in the woods”/wildness survival scenario (which tends to be more of the norm here), in which you should reasonably expect to be rescued or found within that 24-hour period or very shortly thereafter, and I think it’s actually built out fairly well for its seemingly intended purpose and for what it’s expressly billed as. I would actually keep the mask, as considering the given suggested scenario, you’d be in an immediate environment where there’s likely to be all kinds of dust and particulates and who knows what else floating around in the wake of that kind of disaster. What I would add to it is the water purification tablets in case one of the bags is needed for water catchment, maybe a second meal replacement food bar (same kind or maybe a “survival ration” bar), a high-sugar fruity candy packet or two like LifeSavers hard candy or gummies, an electrolyte drink mix packet or two, maybe (probably) a fourth purified water ration bag, and to really build out the first-aid options for the kit (even to the point of putting them in their own secondary bag like a module), replete with maybe a second triangular bandage, a greater variety of Band Aid type bandages, some gauze pads, some gauze wrap, some antiseptic wipes, small scissors and medical tape, tweezers, burn cream, maybe some BleedStop, triple antibiotic ointment, analgesic and anti-inflammatory tablets, and skin glue. I’d also add a tourniquet maybe outside the module. I’d round it out with a type of LED/laser light for signaling, maybe a hank of paracord or bank line, and perhaps oddly enough, a small folding shovel if it fits, because…well, if it’s gonna be at least 24 hours…you gotta go somewhere and even though it shouldn’t be long enough to make a difference, I’d rather not risk contamination or cross-contamination of anything in the area I’m gonna be probably stuck in. Plus you can use it to dig your way out of somewhere or to bang on something to attract attention.
Yea there’s some more stuff I would keep with it for sure i would call it a supplement to a larger kit or a kit you could grab a few of them and toss one in each of your family’s bags. The laser light combo is an awesome idea I have a Olight arkfeld pro it has a laser, led light and uv light all in one and it would fit in there great. You always have an awesome list of stuff i appreciate it!
I made a promise to myself when I first caught on to this channel that I’d only examine the tinned or “pocket” kits, but I’m really glad I broke that intention for this one lol. Great kit and I like the twist on the kit focus too, would definitely want to see more twists to the kit focus like it.
It's a great kit! It's a disaster kit, not a woods kit. Have to remember that. Not going to need a fishing kit or snare wire. No boiling water container nor purification tabs. All I'd add would be a chocolate bar or a roll of giant Smarties (dextrose), some water flavor packets, and maybe some instant coffee or tea. If you take meds, add a day or two of your meds in small ziplocks. Nice kit, Brent!
Thank you this was a cool find they are still available to buy. It’s not bad to have a way to purify the water. I have had boil water notices when I used to live in town. Now that I have a well it’s a more secure system but even in a disaster like a hurricane you still may need to purify water in some form or another but your right most people should have a way to boil some water in their house without use of their stove. I do like the idea of coffee and drink packets there’s definitely room for more stuff in there!
I got that same kit, decent contents could honestly do without the water pouches, change out for a couple of 1L water bags and a small water filter. frontier straw would be a good replacement. Could also do without the mask but if in an area with high pollen or smoke it would be a good thing to have. Like yourself i also have alot of metal around me so the mini button compass doesnt exactly point to true north. Kudos to the 2 is one and 1 is none whistles.
Yes exactly what you said! Redundancy when possible. I really don’t mind the water pouches because In all reality if I get lost I’m still going to be walking in the dark until I give up and decide to go to sleep. First thing I would do is make a fire for a little ambient light then get a shelter up quick as possible. Then go to sleep and get as much sleep as physically possible. The few times I was lost I didn’t really wonder through the woods at night hunting for a water source to purify. I would definitely maybe take one bag out and that would be plenty of space for a frontier straw just in case I needed a drink on the way out. This may vary for other people though. Where I live there’s a lot of forest and farms but there are also so many logging roads small backroads and ATV trails that within a day or two your bound to hit one and be back out onto a familiar road. Thanks I know it works on the buckle but I wasn’t sure if they were designed to come off or if some of them were just typical China budget adhesives. I brought up the water tabs specifically for you 😂. I’m going to make a kit in a single walled 1 gal metal jug and fill it full of water purification tablets then sell it on my RU-vid store when I get it started
i'de like to see you add stuff to the kits. I know other people on RU-vid do that and I get that you may not want to be derivative but it makes good content.
Yea people keep making this suggestion and I was doing some pondering and I was thinking maybe I would see the things I would add to it and put them in the separate kit and if I cannot get a certain task done or survive the overnight with the kit when I test it out then I can bust into the extra gear and see if that will help me get through the night or finish the test!
Yea it was like that kit from the 1960s the other day I built that whole shelter with a giant bread tie and a y in a tree which I used for leverage to break the branches to the correct length for the shelter
