Homeless have metro passes often free from various programs. So this wouldn't solve anything. Don't be shortsighted and say they need to stop giving away free Metro passes. Because a good percentage use these passes to go to work, and get off the streets.

Yeah imagine riding to work/school/grocery stores, etc. and being shoulder to shoulder with people who are seriously so mentally ill and/or intoxicated folks who are urinating and puking everywhere. Public transportation is for people to get to where they need to go and aren't here to house those who need more than just a place to crash. It's totally unfair for everyone involved. It’s an American issue because instead of focusing on the root cause of homelessness like drugs, mental illness, high cost of rent, the government enables the drug user, enables crime, won’t spend money on mental health facilities and affordable living. Instead, our border is wide open so millions of illegal aliens that don’t go through the proper channels are invading our communities and taking up our tax dollars that should go toward fixing the homeless crisis.

Many of these people should be taken into custody through 51-50, but then youd have dozens of phsyciatric hospitals full. Let me tell you, as someone who has been in one because of false allegations, i looked at all these people with mental problems, some of them talking to themselves or just walking around in circles, I thought, “wow! If homeless people were brought here, theyd have immediate housing, a bed to sleep on, food, medical treatment and help to recovery and other resources”. Except in these facilities, if youre unable to prove the ability to help yourself or dont have a plan, theyll keep you there. But nope. The govt would rather keep them in the streets and not have to assume responsibility over them.

If it's anything like in Sacramento with our light rail system, it's essentially an honor system since there are no turnstiles anywhere. You come on from the sidewalk for the most part, then get off at another sidewalk. Then it's up to the company itself to have officers onboard that check everyone for their passes. But there are large gaps in time where there just isn't anyone on to check passes. There are never any arrests or anything either. It's literally just "oh, you don't have a pass? Well then you need to get off at the next stop." and then they just get off the light rail, wait for the next one and get on that.

@@whyamiheredlb you're right, this issue has been around since the days of Jesus but never have we seen the amount of homeless as we see now under any other Governor. Maybe I should pull up some news coverage videos of how these non profits are caught dumping all of the goods bought with state funded money instead of giving it to those in need. Or videos of people who have been assaulted or killed by the homeless because the policies under the current administration have made it harder to prosecute reckless behavior committed by the protected non tax paying class. I came from Northern California. The subway system up there is worse than this. They used to have fare checkers and write tickets, but then progressives came out with their favorite argument that wins every time "what about the minorities". They said minorities can't afford to pay so they stopped checking for tickets and now it is estimated they lose anywhere between $50-$100 million a year in fares. If you stand at one subway entrance, you will see on average 80% of riders jump the gates or force the gates open without paying. There are regularly homicides and rapes on the subway each week, but nothing will be done because they will scream "what about the minorities" and then things will go on as normal. People who live in California and vote for these politicians deserve everything they get and should stop complaining.

If politicians would quit giving themselves raises all the time and have a limit to what these politicians can earn, like no more than 100,000 a year, and quit squandering the rest they could build or renovate old buildings that can handle the mentally ill. Turn old buildings into psych wards to help them, not abuse them. Give them something to live for. They are angry with the world. They don't care if they live or die. But there are homeless that aren't addicts. Whole families thrown out of their homes with no where to go. Banks should not be able to foreclose on your home for a few months of missed payments. Add it to the back of the loan til they can overcome whatever happened. After 2 yrs then see what's wrong. Then foreclose..if they can't be helped.

Yes because being homeless wasn't a crime, but criminal behavior was. Today in California, criminal behavior is no longer a crime. You can walk around and do anything you want short of murder with no consequences. Being homeless should absolutely not be a crime, but any criminal behavior committed while homeless should absolutely be treated as a crime with consequences.

There are, but California is to spineless to do this. Surrounding states encourage their poor to travel to California for housing, benefits. I'm in the field working with folks who've told me they've even been given bus / plane tickets and encouraged to apply for housing, GR funds. Literally we have at least 20% of our homeless from out of state. And they aren't working, or contributing, and are waiting for free services to house them, feed them, and sustain them. I have been speaking on this issue for a while, and I've said it clearly that California needs to canvas which of our homeless are from out of state, and they need to be sent back to their State of Origin, because it's those states who should be responsible in helping their citizens, and not bussing them over to us. This would reduce homelessness on one end. Then there are California Resident Homeless who have cognitive, developmental disorders who need evaluations so that they can be serviced by the Regional Center. The Regional Center can then work on family finding services to place the developmentally delayed, or house them in adult group home, or adult FHA foster homes. Then there is the issue of RSO housing units, where several families have improved their financial situations over the past 10+ years, and continue to live in Rent Control units, when the entire family has grown to earn as a family unit far beyond 100K. These families can afford more but won't leave these units because they are paying less than 18% of their household income. They are holding on to units that should go to real low-income families. There are solutions, but the city, state, counties don't want to change policies that might make them look progressively right wing.

That’s why metro got billions $ to build all these new projects. And even started new program ( Micro ride ).
