My uncle owns a restaurant in South Houston, believe me when I say this man had all the compassion in his heart to try and help the homeless, up until they started swarming his business and straight up attacking him when he couldn't give them anything. So one day he decided he's going to get a pepper ball gun, specifically a shotgun style one, so that anytime he finds homeless people just camped out in or around his business, he gives them two warnings and then comes out blasting. He got that thing some months ago and I haven't seen another homeless person around his restaurant since. Not saying we should just indiscriminately shoot homeless people but when they ask for it, give it to them.

I feel this business owner's pain and I don't even own a business! I live in northern Calif and recently, in broad daylight, a homeless man followed me to my car in a Home Depot parking lot and tried to open the passenger door. I didn't even realize that he was following me, and luckily I had just started the car (which automatically locks the car doors) when I heard the sound of someone trying to open a door. I turned toward the passenger side of the car and saw this guy! Lucky for me he was so stoned out of his head that I was able to pull forward (luckily, no car was parked in front of me) and make a quick exit before he tried anything else. When I shop at the local stores, I do not want to rely on LUCK to get me home safely! I feel that some homeless are infringing on my presumed rights as a responsible citizen to live freely in my community.

Yes, and a lot of people from California have "moved out". Large numbers of them have moved to Arizona, Texas, Tennessee, and Florida. I live in Miami, and the "instant" that I see a homeless person "urinating in the doorway of my supermarket", I report them to the store security, the police arrive, and the vagrant never returns. Over 1$ billion was spent on homelessness in Los Angeles County in the last few years. Most of the money goes to pay the obscenely high salaries of "administrators" and other "facilitators" and ridiculous "programs" that help no one. This leaves little to nothing to actually help the homeless. It's shameful and a massive scam. Meanwhile business owners and residents complain as the situation gets worse and worse with no end in sight. Those who voted in the current state and local leadership however, should refrain from complaining. They only have themselves to blame.

I live in Mexico City and there is rampant addiction and untreated mental illness here too. The difference is that the local street people are well aware of the negative repercussions of acting out. Born and raised on the west coast I have seen first hand the entitled and “beyond reproach” mindset that prevails amongst street people in the US. Mental illness and addiction are NOT valid excuses and never have been. At no time in history would this behavior be permissible and at the minimum would involve a light slam and a night in jail. Also, I say street person to distinguish them from the homeless. Street people want free food, free accommodations and the liberty to engage in antisocial behavior and drug consumption at their leisure. Most of us wouldn’t recognize a homeless person in a group as they are just like us, work and pay taxes..but live in their car.

For some of us, it was a way to combat the " highest price ever paid" for an apartment. And don't forget those "amazing" gas prices, along with endless increases in the food we are trying to buy, but failing miserably. We are educated, sensitive to others, and we have no desire to ruin anyone's lives or businesses. Thank you for sticking up for us! And yes, we pay our taxes out of every check we earn! 😀

If you guessed a homeless man, you are correct. I would have rather seen the 1.2 Billion from Prop HHH go to build mental institutions to help the homeless who are struggling with mental illness and drug addiction than using it to build $700,000-$840,000 (per unit) housing for the homeless. Let's also invest in sending folks who were sent here from other States back to their own States. There's an organization that looked into this and you would be shocked at how many of these homeless came from other States. During their investigation they discovered that most out-of-state homeless were bussed to Cali by being told that we have many more jobs and resources available. Let's buy them a bus ticket back.

Dude I'd rather gather all the courage I had and try to commit suicide than become one of these people. Its scary, disgusting and ruins the lives of others. I'd rather find myself a thick rope and a quite place to hang myself than lose my mind like these individuals, that way I at least won't be a bother to others anymore, not to others and above all not to my family. It's sounds morbid but that is how I view the world. I mean why waste you time living a miserable life in this world and worst dragging others with your misery when you had a much peaceful option to end everything in the corner. If things around you seems to be as bleak as what these people is going through and you feel like you gave your all but still nothing came out of it, then why not just stop and end everything. This world is a s***hole for you anyway so why not just leave it peacefully. Do good to others, be kind to them and do your best to help and care and then once you think you've done enough charitable deeds with all your efforts then its time for you to decide wether to end your life or not, either way you choose just remember its OK as it is your decision after all. If ever you decide to end things for you, do not be sad or worried. Remember, you already done a lot of good and most probably those whom you did kindness will remember you as a good person so why fear death? Use such memory as strength to finally face the other side and besides, life had never been much better for you in the past so why hesitate to die? I know, I myself would do such a thing facing this great misery I had now. I just need some time to gather enough courage and the right moment to do the deed which I am currently planning at present. For now, I had to make sure I leave a good impression to the world before I finally face my grave and hopefully things will workout for me and go through as how I plan it. I'd rather eliminate myself peacefully from this world than be a burden on it for I don't know how long. Better a peaceful death than an eternity of miserable life...

I have a solution to the homeless. Build a correctional facility unit next to a prison without locks and cells. Call it an upgrade from prison cell, little nicer bed, bathroom with common area, counseling, and social worker. The goal is if residents want to move to live with the mainstream, they have to work with the counselors to get into a work program and they can move into subsidize apartments in the community. If they don't they remain there next to prison. If they break any laws, they get prison time with cell and locks.
