Long Beach residents prepare, fill sandbags as Hurricane Hilary approaches Southern California

Coastal communities in Southern California are bracing for potential flooding from Hurricane Hilary, which is expected to make landfall as a tropical storm this weekend. Long Beach residents were seen waiting in long lines to fill sandbags to protect their homes on Saturday afternoon.
Hilary, which is churning off the Pacific coast of Mexico, is expected to reach California on Sunday as a tropical storm with heavy rain and large ocean swells.
“Rainfall amounts of 3 to 6 inches, with isolated amounts of 10 inches, are expected across portions of southern California and southern Nevada, which would lead to significant and rare impacts,” the National Weather Service said. “Elsewhere across portions of the Western United States, rainfall totals of 1 to 3 inches are expected.”

It's a day out... It's coming. In Florida, you really don't know where the rain bands will hit as with wind until the last couple of hours. I've been through Irma living in the keys, and the eye went past us. Since then and seeing one community taken out and the other has minimal damage, I take it seriously and forever will until I'm old and dgaf 😂. Your worries should be earthquakes later on and flash flooding. 5 times more likely to get a big earthquake within 4 years after a historical storm.

@@sami4456 i keep mine on the trailer, well above any normal flooding. even in a truly severe rain storm, following a good snowing (and melting it all), i've never seen water deep enough to touch the rim. i have seen and recall several videos where boats in coastal marinas took a real beating after something halfway across the world happened. i think it was santa cruz that got nailed about 10-15 years ago by the same quake that caused the fukushima nuclear plant meltdown, in japan. but, i should also point out that my boat is not worthy of multi day deep ocean voyages, in the best of conditions. 16' center console fishing boat. meant for use on small lakes. perferably in the morning, before the wind picks up.
