Hopefully it’s a jewy instead. Good idea to just have a plain wire dangle to put up the squids belly as a back up 🤙🏼

Hey mate, I’ve seen them rigged that way but am yet to give it a go. Our mulloway season is coming up and am going to be getting back into using squid dingle dangles after getting really into live baiting so will give it a go. I’ve actually just ordered a hot wire foam cutter to try and make an improved one using epe foam to make them a bit more durable. Over here we have abundant Australian salmon to work through when chasing a mulloway so the surf board foam can get broken quickly without a mulloway getting a look at it. Got some ideas kicking around my head that if they work out I might start selling them over here. You might be able to give me some advice on them actually. The first is to have a circle hook (or twin jigging hooks with glow) on the wire loop that acts as the sinker clip. The circle hook would be what attaches to the release clip and will be right where the tentacles and head are. That way you only need a single snelled circle on your leader and still have a two hook rig, or have two snelled on the leader for three hooks on really big baits. The other idea is to make bibs that slide over the top loop and onto the crimp, either epoxy resin or aluminium. Have seen people incorporate bibs into their dangles over your way but just not in this fashion. You guys have a very cool approach to fishing over there and has helped me score lots of good fish

@@anglinguntangled I totally respect the effort and thought of creating a business and selling your dangles, I'd encourage it 100%. I'm no expert when it comes to the names of foams, but the 2 foams I use is surf board foam and ( flip flop) foam. ( basically what your cheap flip flops are made of, these things are indestructible considering humans wear them on a day to day basis being dragged on the floor). I use the surf board foam when I require alot of flotation for edible fish ( eg mulloway), and then the flip flop foam when I'm targeting toothy fish Another piece of advice, and I consider it the most important, is to keep it simple. Don't worry about glow beads, or bibs, or amount of hooks etc etc. Just 1 circle hook is more than enough attached to your dangle. Materials Flip flop foam Wire 2 Crimps 2 sequences Generally how I'd make my go to dangle would be to cut out a 10cm piece of flip flop foam and shape it exactly the way you did in your video with the hole through the middle. I'd have 2 sequences prepped ( how to make a sequence is to take a stationary punch and punch out 2 circles from an ice cream tub, then take a needle, heat the tip, and poke a hole right in the middle of your 2 tiny plastic circles). First thing is to make the Sinker clip loop by crimping your wire with a loop size of your choice, then slide on your sequence, then foam, then another sequence ontop, then finally another crimp to finish of the dangle where the hook will be pinned. This is very effective and really is the only method I use to make all my dangles from various lengths and thicknesses of foam, and I'd catch little cob right through to sharks and rays up to 300 kilos. Obviously, the bigger your dangle, you'd have to beef up your wire and sequence. I'd say it again, keep it simple, no need for tiny glow beads etc, because realistically, in the surge and currents with all the white water around, a fish would have to be atleast a meter or 2 away from your bait to even get a glimpse of your bait. There's no ways you'd attract a fish 50m plus away to your bait with 1 small glow bead that's hid by your bait.

@KZN_Fishing Yeah flip flop foam (eva) will be the second option if epe doesn’t work out. It’s just more expensive than epe, which is the softer stuff that is used as packaging instead of styrofoam. I like the idea of the sequins, but what I found with the surfboard foam is that the wire had a tendency to cut through it and that’s what the beads are more to stop than be an attractant. Might not have that issue with the epe and sequins will be the go. Might be getting ahead of myself here but I’d be looking to have some good fishers test out what I come up with, so could possibly send a couple over if your willing to give them a go

@@anglinguntangled go for it mate, whatever design you come up with will surely work, I can see you're thinking this through thoroughly, so I'm sure it will be a dream to fish with If you do come right with it, it will be a massive success, and I'm sure you'd be the one to get the entire country into dangle fishing. I'd be more than happy to check it out and send you feedback as to how you'd like to rig it up with singular or double hooks etc

Cheers mate! That second hook is just through the squid and under the bait cotton which holds it nice and firm. I’ve had a go at making the dangle thin enough to slide straight up the belly of the squid so you can just put a whole one on and throw it out but there’s a couple issues. Mainly it’s to get the foam thin enough which it needs to be undersized due to the squid gripping to the foam as you’re trying to slide it in. At that size it’s also too weak and any small peckers are able to snap the foam on you. I’ve thought about using glow beads as spacers and then a much smaller kind of footy shaped bit of foam that will hold the rattle and be just in the hood but haven’t gotten around to it. Another option would be to make the dangle around some soft buoyant wood. Then it would stay strong while being thin. Bit of effort but hopefully they’d last you a fair while. I will just say that the type in the video will be busted most of the time by a mulloway, but still work fine if it’s not too bad

@@anglinguntangled thanks for the detailed response. Like I said earlier when it walms up a bit I'm off to give it a try. Small whole whiting or tailor strips are the preferred baits for mulloway in my area so I will be experimenting with them as well. On point adventures did one video where they just pulled a wire loop through a mullet for casting only.

Yeah I’ve started doing that with my shark baits. All of this stuff is inspired by the South African blokes and it’s a very interesting way of fishing over there. I have come up with my own way of throwing live yakkas for mulloway which has been working a treat. I’m hoping to show it off soon when I get a chance to chase them again

Yeah those tekken hooks were the first time I came across them so was a bit skeptical, but reckon they’re hooks are hard to beat these days

Yeah they’re a little fiddlier than most baits, but can knock one up in about two minutes. The trick is to have atleast two of the dangles made up so you can make the next bait after casting out the first one then they’re as quick to change over as a slab bait. I’ve thought the same about having a floating insert to slide straight up the squid tube but haven’t played around with it too much. Wood could be the go for usuability and strength as it will need to be pretty thing for these smaller style squids, but would be easy as to use once made up

The balsa float sticks look very interesting. The South Africans don’t mind those float balls when chasing their equivalent of bream and stuff off the beach either

@@anglinguntangled Yes, you’d think the ball would scare off the fish. In the US, they use a “Santee Cooper” rig to drift for catfish. It has a peg-float three inches from the hook. Doesn’t seem to bother the fish.

Not much you can do except try moving to a different gutter. They’ll usually only steal the head so I just wrap a new one on which doesn’t take long at all

Yeah hard to beat a fresh slab of tailor or mullet, yet to try the squid-Polly condom. Would be so good to see the mulloway stocks boom and start catching them in n better quantity and quality

Never! 😁. It’s just a bit of a pain to work Dacron through the foam and the jewies don’t seem to mind

@@anglinguntangled use a bait 🪡 needle buddy and pull it through or cut foam and cotton on dacron definitely gets more bites I will be in Australia next year

I just don’t quite like the idea that the connection with the hook will snap if your sinker becomes too lodged into the sand or finds a bit of reef. Generally a pretty awesome rig though

Yer l got a nice little jew as well as some good bream a few days ago on little gibber beach,my old mate l used to fish with had a shack on top of the big gibber called the high chapparal till national parks burnt it down in the 70s,saddly my mate is gone to.
