Angling Untangled is a fishing adventure and tutorial channel showing off some of the beautiful fishing locations and fish species found in the saltwater and freshwater environments of New South Wales, Australia.
Expect in-depth guides into gear selection, rigs & lures, tactics, locations, filleting, gear maintenance, and more, covering both bait and lure fishing as well as land based and kayak/boating adventures.
With a whole host of inshore and estuarine species available, targets will include dusky flathead, yellowfin bream, Australian bass, trout, yellowfin whiting, tailor, Australian salmon, mulloway/jewfish, luderick, drummer, squid, kingfish, sharks and more.

That’s very good to hear David, gorgeous spot though bit of a shame about the development there. The south coast is going well however I do miss that part of the world for its luderick fishing! @@anglinguntangled just one question with the Alvey and the float line, are you using backing underneath the float line or are you just winding on the 150m of Dango float?
@anglinguntangled

Go backing underneath it and really you can just put half the float line on. You’ll never have more than 20 metres of line out for luderick and can put the other half on when you work through the first half and always have a nice full spool.

Is a great time of year for fishing the harbours and breakwalls for them as well if your looking to get a few runs on the board. And you won’t regret getting the centrepin mate. Bit of a learning curve to use but they’re unmatched in letting a a float go naturally with the swell and I reckon a much more enjoyable way of fighting the fish. I’m sure you’ll workout your own little tricks with it, but one thing I do is have the rod butt tucked up under my arm and the spool resting against my side/belly to stop it spinning went not needed

@@anglinguntangled Thanks I'll give some harbour spots a go. Just bought my second Alvey centrepin so now have the SS backed version (47 Float) and the 47GZ. I started with the 47 Float and love it but realised on my first outing how useful the full reel stop/latch would be on the 47GZ. The ratchet on the 47 Float doesn't do the same job. Plus the lighter weight of the GZ could be good over a long day's fishing. They're like hen's teeth now so luckily grabbed the last one anywhere in Sydney tackle stores .

Thanks for the vid very helpful. I am just getting into fishing for luderick so it was very helpful. I do have one question what determines what weight float you use?
@anglinguntangled
@anglinguntangled 2 года назад
Cheers mate. It basically boils down to the rougher the conditions the bigger the float. A bigger float that requires more lead underneath to get it sitting right is less affected by the turbulence of the water. That’s not to say you won’t have success using ocean floats in still waters but the belief is fish will be put off if they can sense they’re pulling a bigger float down

Good educational video. Fished that spot many a time when it's calmish. My favourite spot in the area is almost right back to the beach with a rising tide and a bit of a bump. I would also mention the general area (and all areas in general) can be incredibly dangerous in larger swells and a life vest should be worn at all times when fishing the ocean rocks. Many lives have been lost because of inadequate footwear and no PFD.

If we're talking about the same spot, I fished there ("the lagoon") once on the run out tide with a big SE swell. Only got two. Ran out of water in the end. But you can see why the fish seek shelter there in those conditions. Cheers

Hey mate do you have to cast it far or just right next to the edge?Also,if the water depth is 3m do I set the float to 3m or 2m or 2.5m?
@anglinguntangled
@anglinguntangled 2 года назад
Nah usually no need to cast far and how deep you have it set will just depend on the day. And as a general rule having I’ll start with my bait a metre off the bottom and see if they’re hanging there and then set it higher if having no luck
@meocehrstg8433
@meocehrstg8433 3 года назад
How deep you have your float, I have a hard time getting the float depth right, do they sit on the bottom or are they mid water fish?
@anglinguntangled
@anglinguntangled 3 года назад
Generally they will be hanging around the bottom, so having your bait a meter off that is a good place to start. They can sometimes come up higher in the water column as you’re burley starts to kick in though and in rare occasions you can see them eating off the surface. If you’re not getting fish after changing the bait to a some different depths, I’d downsize your leader to 6 or 4lb 👍🏼
@TheBuzzawak
@TheBuzzawak 2 года назад
I was having a go today (no luck). I think I was setting my line too long as it was catching on rocks and the float was going down.. Other times I would get a down (wait 2 seconds) but it would come up again. Unsure if that was a bite or not. My question is how do you know how deep to set your line?
@anglinguntangled
@anglinguntangled 2 года назад
Your just going to have to feel the area out. Having it close to the bottom is a good spot to try and find fish but they also might be mid water or even close to the surface if there’s enough bait/burley on top. One thing that might be happening is that you are using a too small of float or have it weighted too heavy and the water draining back off the rocks is dragging your float under rather than a fish

Great video! Do you recommend Daiwa Crossfire Surf or the Daiwa Seabass?
@anglinguntangled
@anglinguntangled 2 года назад
Cheers mate. Haven’t used a seabass but I did just have a look at the specs. I’m guessing you’re looking at the 10’6 and it may be a ever so slightly stiff for luderick as it’s rated 5-9kg (the crossfire surf is 3-5kg and my favourite luderick rod is 6kg). That might not be a bad thing as long as it’s got a nice soft action and will mean you’ll be able to put the breaks on any drummer you come across, or try to anyway. You’ll also be able to throw slightly bigger lures on the seabass compared to the crossfire if you felt like spinning off the beach or rocks. If you’re just after a rod specifically for luderick and want to step up from the crossfire, BCF have the Wilson Blackfish for $140 which I haven’t used but has felt good in the hands. Hope this has helped!
@steven8104
@steven8104 2 года назад
@@anglinguntangled thanks for the detailed and quick reply. Would the crossfire be able to lift the fish out of the water? In your video, you drag the fish out with the wave along the rocks. In my situation, the breakwall is quite high where I fish at and I won't be able to drag the fish out. I would have to lift it up.
@anglinguntangled
@anglinguntangled 2 года назад
I reckon it would struggle with bigger models, you definitely would need to keep the rod angle low or risk snapping the tip. I think you’ll find it worth investing in a long handle/telescoping net before too long anyway. The combo of using small hooks and luderick having soft mouths means they’re prone to fall off while lifting, as well as your line will snap if they’ve managed to brush it by a rock during the fight. Are you in Newcastle by any chance?
@steven8104

@@anglinguntangled Sydney based but the spot I go is at Wollongong. Thanks for answering all my questions haha. For context I've got a BG 2500 reel spooled with 15lb braid and my previous rod was only 7ft so looking to upgrade. Targeting blackfish only 50% of the time so probably wouldn't get the Wilson one. Still on the fence between the seabass and crossfire haha. Also open to other rod suggestions around that price range!
@anglinguntangled
@anglinguntangled 2 года назад
No dramas at all mate. The seabass doesn’t seem like a bad choice at all if your going to use it for other things as well, you’d just need to take your reel in put it on the rod and see how it feels, make sure its got enough bend through the middle of the rod for luderick. I do like the Penn prevail rods and they have a model in the same specs as the 10’6 seabass. Even though it’s the same line rating it says it will cast up to 60g lures over the 40g for the seabass, so you’d just have to have a feel of it make sure it’s not too stiff. But I wouldn’t get hung up on just those three rods either, pick up any 10’6ish rods around that 6kg mark and put your reel on, see how it feels and get one of the workers to hold the tip while you see how it bends
