Can't wait to savor some of those delicious Pomps ! We say Walleye are great which they are, but Pomps are tastier. as are Flounder. I live near Lake Erie , where perch and Walleye rule but salt water fish are pretty damn hard to beat for eating.
I go to corpus and to Port Aransas every summer. I love surf fishing the best I drilled a hole on my pole spike holder and placed an eye bolt through it so I can step my spike into the sand with no issues. It’s helped me a lot. Love your videos. Stay safe stay healthy
For Long Casting I find a sinker weight of 4 to 5oz is best. Line size if using a bait caster and mono normally between 15 to 25lb running line with a shock leader (min 60 ld of about 30ft) Spinning reel 20 to 40lb braid with a heavy braid shock leader 90lb 30ft this not only takes the strain of the cast it helps against abrasion. A small bit of bait where the fish are is better than a big bit where they are not.
@@freddyeltigre2327 You will achieve your best when you have good technique, a good reel, a clip-down bait that is half the weight of the sinker, and a thin line. We have quite small people that can really hit good numbers. Brenda was a plus 500ft caster.
@@Nickaway I totaly agree Nick, it's like golf , technique and a constant swing for best results! But even in Golf the more powerful man with a great swing will win the day, if he can putt well. In casting, you need a good constant casting release with some uuumph behind it for great results. I'm not going to brag about my casting , I'm 80 + but I do pretty good in the distance catagory, as I have told you before I can count to eleven or twelve before the weight hits the water with a 4 oz weight and 25 lb Braid. I'm just fishing Nick that is all. The only reason I learned long cast was watching the British Touraments in long casting and watching your show. That's where I have learned, I can use bait casters really well because I bass fished most of my life. You must remember this, I never knew what surf fishing was until 4 years ago when I was introduced to it by friends at the hotel in SPI where I was staying. I will be in SPI for 3 months in Dec, Jan and Feb to catch fish to take home, and sometimes you have to cast far too catch them. It will be my last kick at the can for surf fishing and the custom built13 ft Diawa spinning rods I built for long casts and all the baits and holders have too go. I built custom rods for 22 years so I know what I was doing in that department and it works really well and unlike most rods they sell for long casts with 5 or maybe 6 guides on a 13 or 15 fter "WELL OK" but hard on the Blank of the rod. It's not putting less guides for distance, it is location and size. Your first big guide location is crucial for line release and use nothing less then a #12 guide including the tip for long casts works. You'll know it's me by the fancy red ,white and blue staggered wraps and fancy wraps at the base, with special rod holders I built.
