LONG DELAY due to MECHANICAL ISSUES on JETSTAR to Bali | B787-8 Economy Class 

The tape is aluminum tape (also known as speed tape). It's a legal temporary application. The tape on the wings, are most likely covering up areas where the paint is coming off, to protect the bare metal from moisture (corrosion prevention) untill the areas can be repainted. They also use it to cover wet sealant applications, so the plane can get back to flying without the wet sealant flying off before it dries.

I've been on a 787 four times and I flew on VH-VKK twice! Once back in 2018 as JQ62 and in 1/2/2023 as JQ28

I remember watching you fly Garuda Indonesia. I use to fly them to Jakarta and all over Indonesia before Covid, however I will be flying them in January during the holiday break. I am very excited and I hope you fly them and do a trip report on the national airline of Indonesia.

That's weird. They never switch (VH-VKJ to VH-VKK for last minute equipment change, but still flying on the Dreamliner) plane when the mechanical issue is not fix. For example. Normally when the plane has a mechanical issue that is not fix for 1 hour, they will switch planes (aircraft type), but still fly the same aircraft type (except registration), I am curious, did you check flightradar that your plane is delayed from previous flight or something like that, before your flight to Denpasar? Before my flight, I always check flightradar, just in case my plane has arrived from a previous flight that is on time for my next flight and it work, sometimes delay can happen almost quite common, due to 1 hour turn around is not enough. Normally, the plane turn around for 1 and a half to 2 hour after arriving and departing.

Another interesting and informative trip report Hugo! 🙂 At nearly an hour long it was an enjoyable video to watch and went by very quickly- the whole experience from flight delays, uncertainty of departure to the flight itself was captured perfectly. Jetstar is good for the budget conscious and will get you there safely- but as you say you have to be mindful of potential delays. If you book the whole package with Jetstar (ie - seat selection, inflight entertainment, checked luggage and food) - would you say it’s comparable to just paying for the flight on a full service airline like Qantas or Garuda? Also, the tape on the wings was interesting. Obviously it was safe enough, but I’ve never seen that! Did you or anyone see them applying that when the aircraft was at the gate?
