Pampered Paws, a grooming salon who donates great amounts of time and services to the rescue, shows grooming tools and techniques for long-haired cats.
This lady's cat grooming skills are like a neurosurgeon. There is absolutely no way the average person can groom their cat and NOT end up full of stitches like the way she's showing you‼️
OK, Y’all talking all that like it’s so easy. Either your cat is sedated, extremely gentle/old/lazy, or some other anomaly. Try this with the avg. fat, cuddly, house cat ….. like my former fur babies. I needed to have a full grown man hold down Precious (my adorable Siamese) while I bathed, and Ms. Cutie (my fat, adorable, super lazy tuxedo cat) bit THE VET (not just a groomer, but the actual vet who studied for yrs how to hold and handle cats) because she was tired of her exam!
My cat dosent need to be brushed tho she likes it and if i dont give her it she Will give you the death stare and when theres a lot of Wind she attacks and if you fight back she Will try use claws
I’m getting ready to try cutting mine rn and sooo nervous hahahah. BUT, she does love baths now, so at least I don’t have to worry about that part ha! My mini doodle apparently brought in fleas from the yard or garage. Not sure which bc I had NO idea until all three pets were scratching. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ Now I’m living the flea freaking chaos! Just did my puppy’s hair last night bc it was too hard to see them in his thick coat…. was so worried about more jumping off, so chose to did in the garage. With her, I can’t figure out where to do it bc there’s going to be SOOOO much hair!! Shes white so they are easy to see when she’s wet, but not so much when she’s dry. On a funny note, I’ve seen some YT videos of people doing their long hair cats with trimmers…. And oof, it looks terrible!!! But, I think it’s the only option I have at this point. Possibly gonna with scissors to fix areas if that happened. Heck idk - never done it before 😂😂
My longhair rescue cat loves the brush. If he see it in my hand he jumps into the table and cries until I start! And it's daily, sometimes twice in spring
Thanks so much for the video. I just brushed my long haired cat for the first time without her skinning me alive or farting on me. She's happy and so am I.
1. Use a comb (greyhound comb ) on your kitties. A slicker brish is more for a dog. too easy to overbrush and burn the skin plus it just puts static all through the coat. Im a cat groomer.
Haha...that is funny, we finally just wrapped her in a towel and shaved her butt, I shaved while my hubby held her like a baby LOL...she hated every minute but wrapping her up helped and she is now more tolerant to me brushing her. Thanks for all the help and support!!!
no they aren't. I'm a feline exclusive groomer and have groomed over 400 cats. If you provide them with the right environment and make them feel comfortable, they don't need sedated.
I have 6 cats. 5 of them love to be brushed and actually 'ask' for me to brush them by running to the box where I keep all of the grooming items. However, my long-haired, very layered-hair cat won't tolerate any brushing at all. We make periodic trips to the groomer.
Finally, some common sense in a sea of ignorance. All these negative comments are coming from people (I'm assuming) that don't know the difference between a Persian's cat hair and any other cat. Their fur (let's not call it hair) is so different. Until you actually touch it and feel it don't assume you're going to be able to properly groom a Persian without a lot of knowledge and...effort. That's just the nature of the beast. No way anyone can do that and make it look gentle and easy. Good luck there pal!
If they had been too rough that cat would have left her in its dust! I do wonder if it was sedated though. I don’t know any cat that would let you do ANYTHING to it for that long without letting you know IT was in charge!
Thankfully, the kitty we ended up with actually adores being groomed. He will come and beg me to brush him and then purrs and purrs and starts making bisciuts. This video was helpful on tips for how to go about the brushing better. I only had the short bristled comb, but I will be picking up the long toothed comb tomorrow to see about better getting into his undercoat and getting out any stuck fur.
My ragdoll used to have tons of terrible mats but i finally got rid of them and now we have a good routine. I comb him first with a metal comb and then I use the slicker brush. He takes it pretty good now and then he gets his push up treat. I think he knows he will get knots and mats if er don't. I only need to groom him about every other day or 2 days but i don't let it go more than that. It was too stressful.
Oh man...I'm sure the cat was fine as I'm assuming this is a professional, but I have suuuuper curly hair that gets tangled easily, and if anyone went through my hair THAT HARD?! Oooh boy, I'd fight back too! I could see the discomfort the cat was in; it reminded me of when I was little and was getting my hair combed. Yeeesh. I guess all the more important to groom long haired cats daily! ^__^
@@romz11khan Or end up full of stitches or minced meat 🤨😃😾 And I have ALWAYS been tender headed. I used to cry when my mom did my hair, and I have thinner hair and my mom was always very gentle! That's one thing I can def say about my mom, she was always super patience with me. I since got locks since 2000. Easy maintenance....esp now during this quarantine, and locks are long, stylish, and cute!👶🏽👩🏽🦱💗
i have never been able to comb my cat on her stomach, she loves her back and under her neck combed and massaged. I love combing her tho such a bonding experience
LOL! My cat won't let me look at her belly! And is this cat partially trimmed? My cat has hair twice as long. The poor kitty gets mats from turning her head. I have her shaved in summer, but she needs that fur the rest of the year. However, I think I can make a try with some new goals at least from seeing this vid. Thank you for posting. P.S. I love the cat's commentary -- "I'm not a joyful kitty!"
@Sleepichick Thank you! I did have my vet shave her butt when I got her fixed but guess that is what I am going to have to do from now on...I just don't want to pay the cost of this b/c it's about 30+ dollors a pop...thank you for your help!
My 3 cats always snatch the brush from me, pass it to each other and the last one to get it, hides it under the bed. I have more than 6 brushes and combs plus several clippers under the bed lol!!!
how do you get the catto lay on its side like that? my persian lets me do his back and head but the belly, legs and bum are war to get done. he is a rescue cat and the former owner didnt do any grooming with him and he was shaved when i adopted him but now its growing out he wont let me do it. also his bottom needs to be shaved or trimmed to avoid poop getting stuck. any tips please.
OMGSH that's way to rough. She needs to be more gentle the poor cat. My cat is a long haired one and I don't use that much force to brush her and still get her cost nice and smooth!
Fay Griffiths I just commented the same thing. Shes too rough and shes not even talking to him and telling him its ok. Just hearing a soothing voice helps them. Poor kitty.
if i may ask, how to cut hairs of a long-haired persian cat. I cut it few times, but nt sure if it was right. I cut his hair on his bottom because when i did not cut it he always have poo left hanging on his hair after his toilet...
my cat has long hair but not as long as this one. it isn't extremely long on his butt area. but every once in a while he will show up with shit all over his butt, mostly in his fur. I know it happens when he uses a liter box. any ideas. like I said his fur isn't very long around his butt and I'm worried if it's trimmed down more he will look really strange. thanks in advance for your time.
My kitten has the same. I've tried to change her diet so her poops are firmer. And I trim her butt. It looks a bit strange if you look closely, but it's better than poop smears all over the floor.
@peachfire1981 I don't know about your vet but I know mine will actually use anaesthesia to knock your cat out and shave them while they sleep. Mine thankfully loves having it's butt shaved
If I was that cat I would scratch her!! She is being so rough with him it's very clear! Look at his head moving back as she brushes it showing how hard she is pulling at his fur! This was painful to watch and anyone who thinks this is okay shouldn't own a cat!!
If you groom from an early age they become used to it. My two have been brushed since they were 3 months old - when i got them. No such thing as a normal cat sadly.
You see, a Persian is appreciated not just for it's looks. The Persian breed is valued for it's gentle temperament. Their face has a mean looking expression on it, but the cat is just the opposite. The breeders ensure they are socialized from an early age. I have a domestic, and she was probably raised in a barn with a lot of other strays, so she is very competitive and also very cautiaus and skittish, just the opposite of the Persian who always takes his time when doing anything.
well, she may not have the most gentle touch, but she does know what she is talking about. and, with cats, you have a window to do what you need to do, and then, you are done. lol!! when they REALLY say no...you should listen:) this was a good video. most of the groomers i have watched on youtube, should not be doing vids. lol
I agree, but with some cats, even that doesn't work. My mama cat was crazy, and gave birth to crazy babies. We kept two of them, and the female especially is crazier n' a loon--and I mean that sincerely. She was handled from the time she was born--but even as a newborn, we could tell she didn't really like to be touched. We still love her, but we've learned when to back off==which is most of the time! Not even our male, who by comparison isn't nearly as crazy as his sister would let us do this.
Any tips on getting a maine coon used to getting groomed as an adult? I've gotten him used to the gentle brush gloves by bribing him with treats, but if I used the bristle brush I think I would receive nails and teeth.
aww.. the cat is so adorable and nice.. my cat won't let me brush his belly and on the inside of his hind legs.. I tried to brush those areas today and it did not end well for me.. my arms are full of scratch marks now.. fantastic.
Great video, it was very helpful. When I was a child of 11 I used to sit on a wall and comb out a neighbours Persian with just a hair comb. The owner stopped me though, why I don't know cause she left him in a right mess and he had to be regularly shaved to get rid of the mats. I mean who doesn't want a free groomer!
Most well groomed Ragdolls, Persians and pretty much any long hair cat will act like this!!! Why... Well when the are kittens (if you purchased them from a reputable breeder)) they have already have several baths and brushes so they are use to it.. And if you keep up the correct grooming your cat will actually run to you as soon as you pick up the brush :D my Ragdolls love being brushed and when to wash them I just jump in the shower and they follow me :) lol.... Random cats hahahah
My cat is that fury but he hates it when i brush and comb him and he goes after the comb like a toy and scratches it and me in the process. Anyone have any tips!?
hold her by the skin behind her neck, it might seem cruel or whatever but it actually doesn't hurt the cat it just puts them in a trance, this is what I do when I have to bathe my cat if she gets really dirty or for flee and tick baths. it should keep them from moving around as much.
I know this is very old and you probably don't see comments anymore but THANK YOU! Our neighbor passed away and apparently his relatives just threw his very long-haired and traumatized kitty outside and moved away. She lived under our car for almost a year before we gave up trying to get her to warm up to us and just captured her and brought her in. It took months but now she's _quite_ the princess and loves everyone. Using a regular brush took months and wasn't very effective. We're getting her used to it though and needed to move up so she won't get anymore mats. Now I know what to buy and how to do it! Always had (and have) short-haired.
Allen Hallare don't know if you've found anything, but I am just in the process of ordering a calming spray from amazon, reviews are good and I am intending to use it the way you want to. I am also ordering a detangle spray. I will repost after I have tried them. My cat is a long haired (debateable) Tortie, doesn't even like to be petted down the back, only likes the head and ruff petted and scratched on her terms. Wish me luck so I can pass it on.
patty craig So the calming spray didn't really help as far as grooming. I guess I am too indulgent as far as her hating me. I did manage to grb herby the back of the neck and spray this www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000634IUO?ie=UTF8&camp=213733&creative=393177&creativeASIN=B000634IUO&linkCode=shr&tag=eauciuen0a-20 on one side and some mats after awhile came off. But there are many and there is the sanitary clipping that takes two to do. I am going the way of the groomer as soon as it gets warmer, she loves windows and had a respiratory thing before I adopted her last July. Probably another reason to be wary of sprays. Any way she will be having a mohawk and a fresh start for both of us, hope to use the time to get both us use to grooming. Thankfully there is a traveling groomer in the Philly area. I also use a house call vet, less trauma for all.
My cat loves being brushed, but even she can only take so much. I would NOT bring her to that lady. My baby girl is too sensitive for that rough treatment.
Can't find reliable groomers in south MPLS. Only experience with a pro was a nightmare with some crazy lady. Never putting my cat thru that again. This lady has some good ideas.
What do you do if your cat won't even let you touch her w/ a brush? She bites the brush and freaks out...and constantly having to cut the hair around her butt b/c she poo's on herself and gets all matted (gross right)...She is a long hair siamese so not anywhere as thick at this cat...help!
