Woodbridge Town gained their second away hard-fought league win of the season as keeper Michael Batt made his first team debut for the Woodpeckers and had no chance with either goal conceded and a first goal for the club for Scott McCarthy in the second half.
James Dormandy's header went over the bar in the first minute for the hosts and after the Woodpeckers lost George Bowman with an Ankle Injury after 22 minutes, Alfie Parnell's shot went inches wide of the post after 32 minutes but after 40 minutes away Captain Sean Rea's inch perfect cross from the right wing found Ryan Keeble and he made no mistake from close range. Taylor Southgate's header tested home keeper Matt Walker in a largely uneventful first half.
Luke Taylor's through ball after 49 minutes was met by Keeble but his shot was well saved by Walker but after a defensive mistake the home side equalised after 52 minutes when George Day's shot beat Batt. The Woodpeckers went 2-1 up after 55 minutes when after Southgate's header to Luke Mallett, Andy Crowe's effort beat Walker. Mallett's free kick after 57 minutes was headed wide by Mark Ray and again from a Mallett Pass, Callum Sinclair's effort was parried for a corner by Walker. The Woodpeckers increased their lead after 70 minutes when following a good move involving Crowe and Ray, McCarthy's shot beat Walker in off the post. Sam Mills' cross was headed clear by Dale Hammond after 82 minutes and at the other end, Taylor's header went over the bar after 86 minutes. 52 minutes played in the second half and after 96 minutes the hosts were awarded a Penalty for handball and Will Wingfield made it 3-2 with the spot kick but the Woodpeckers held on for a deserved win.
