Two penalties from Luke Mallett were not enough to clinch the 3 points as the woodpeckers had to settle for a point in a match they should have won with the chances they created.
Ex Middlesbrough striker Scott McCarthy's lob after 14 seconds went wide of the post and his powerful effort after 11 minutes just missed the target. Taylor Southgate's excellent tackles after 14 minutes led to Mallett's cross which was deflected for a corner. Daniel Conroy's shot was blocked by home Captain Sean Rea after 20 minutes but after 29 minutes McCarthy was brought down inside the area, Mallett made no mistake with the penalty kick. Mallett's cross found Aaron Churchyard after 38 minutes but his shot was also blocked for a corner. Conroy's effort after 41 minutes and from the rebound Will Flower made it 1-1 from close range, all square at half time.
McCarthy's shot after 56 minutes tested away keeper Jordan Smith and Callum Sinclair's effort on the hour also tested Smith. The hosts again took the lead after 73 minutes when Smith brought down Mark Ray inside the area and Mallett stepped up to send Smith the wrong way and it was 2-1. Away substitute Kaiden Goldspink equalised from close range after 77 minutes and Liam Scopes received a Red card after 85 minutes for the hosts. Ray and Mallett efforts in the closing stages failed to find the net with the Woodpeckers playing some good football, especially in the first half.
