Pushing my limits with the the sub 12 Air Arms xti50 air rifle.
I finally got a break in the wind to push the range out to 100yards!
i set myself a challenge of hitting a 40mm hft target at 100 yards and its safe to say i got it..
Pushing my limits with the low power air rifles is a tough challenge and goes way past having expensive equipment, its much more about being in tune with the kit. Having accurate ammo and being able to judge the wind
The scope im using is a falcon endura ffp and is perfect for long range target shooting . the image quality is great and the huge internal adjustment range makes it easy to dial to the extended zero ranges no problem, even when holding over 2.5 feet!
The pellets im using are a known good batch of jsb exact heavies from 2016
they are proving to be extremely accurate at the longer ranges and regarded as the best long range pellet in sub12 .177
i think the next challenge will be pushing the ranges out even further and possibly swapping over to slug ammo and optimising it for them.
‪@airabilityuk‬ its your turn Matthew... im sure you can better my results with ease, after all i built your posh stock...
‪@ShootingCountryTV‬ come on chilly, show us all how to do it with the tx200...

I know here in the US people want as much power as possible. But honestly the low powered guns are more fun. They can really test the shooter and his equipment

It's incredibly testing at the lower power levels, it certainly keeps me on my toes. I saw Lauren parsons (USA)had a great weekend at the ft world champs shooting at sub12. On the international stage it's a common ground nowadays. 😉

Nice shooting. Now you need to have a pop at doing it with .22 adjustable scope mounts might be needed. Very tight for elevation JSB strikes again, I think weighing pellets is overrated these days if your using good kit to start with.

Hello my friend, Thank you for posting your target work footage and also showing us your beautiful air rifle. It looks like a fantastic piece of kit! It's really nice to see your passion, enjoyment, and enthusiasm in carrying out what you are doing and also demonstrating what a top end sub 12ftlb air rifle is capable of. I am the very proud owner of an Air Arms Utimate Sporter Regulated, also in 12ftlb. I'm 53 now and quite new to air rifle shooting, though it's something I've longed to do all my life. I have tried a similar thing to you with regard to range, though as I'm a hunter, my range maximum was only sixty yards with a slight breeze. I found that even at that range, the wind was much more of a factor with the engine the pellet would have had behind it in the late fifty yard range. That said, though, l was surprised with the accuracy of your pellet and with the clout and force your pellet still hit its target. I'm not sure I could warrant owning a beautiful air rifle like that, when what I own already is so good and performs absolutely so well. It's a privilege to own such kit. From beginning with a BSA Meteor, having a cocking lever and ten shot magazine and the engineering skills to have all that manufactured and work properly makes my knees tremble. Just fantastic! It's just so nice to see beautiful kit and somebody having so much fun, seeing what they can achieve and what is possible, and doing no harm to anyone or anything. Thank you again, and good luck in everything you aim for and attempt. Best wishes.

I've got an early unregged ultimate sporter, it's completely stock action wise. Still got the anti tamper on from factory. It's an absolute tack driver. I ought to use it more tbh as its fantastically accurate.maybe I ought to do some videos with it at the longer ranges 🤔

@@tillysgunstocks Hello my friend, Thank you for taking the time to reply. I hope I'm not sounding like a complete numbty, I've never done field target. I don't know what you mean by stock action wise and what anti tamper means or the impact it would have. Thank you, Ian.

@@ianwoods1384 they have custom built wooden and tactical stocks on, but the actual rifle itself is completely untouched and as it left the factory.no tuning ,fettling or anything mechanically different on the rifle itself😉 bar a few cosmetic changes.

@tillysgunstocks Thank you, my friend, I hope I didn't insult your intelligence. Our interests and enthusiasm for our air rifles and journies come in many forms. Even though my father was a shooter, air rifles were forbidden for my brother and I. That's understandable, I suppose. Growing up, I noticed Theoben air rifles if I dared to look in dad's Airgun World while he was at work. Theoben was based in Cambridge and invented gas ram air rifles based on one of the gentleman's Suzuki motorcycle forks. Theoben made a range of gas ram air rifles, and their Theoben Rapid made my knees go weak, the beginning of pcp territory.Their barrel blueing, quality, solid workmanship were just fantastic. Of course, with great regret, Theoben ceased to trade in 2004. One of their models that caught my eye was the Theoben gas ram SLR (self loading rifle) 98 on Utube. I've never seen a stock like it. It's dark and made from Rosewood, absolutely gorgeous. Obviously, all Theoben rifles are second hand now. I don't fancy a second hand one, I'm quite particular. Theoben used to make the gas ram actions for the Weihrauch HW90K before they ceased. I'm going to purchase the Weihrauch HW90K, but look at it as though it was a Theoben SLR98 and attempt to make a thumbhole gunstock much like the beautiful Theoben SLR98. I've made replacement stocks for the nickel action HW97K and HW80K, which I humbly thought were dull, miserable , and lack lustre and not worthy of the actions they carried. That will be this winters project, as I hate winter, the wet and cold, and dark nights. Respect, my friend, and I wish you much more happy shooting!

@tillysgunstocks
@tillysgunstocks 10 месяцев назад
I have mate. I can't judge how the lighter pellets will drift at the extended ranges. They get quite wild in the wind past 50yards at typical sub12 speeds. Interestingly they actually show much the same drops at the extended ranges as the heavies. The lighter pellets are shedding their speed fast and i just can't get a grip on them. 😉

@tillysgunstocks 10 месяцев назад
Funny you say that..I've been looking at the f class stuff of late. I've done a fair bit of work with shooters in that sort of discipline and other more obscure stuff. Its something I plan to have a go at, plus I fancy building my own rig up. I'll also be doing some optimization on the xti and that will likely follow the lines of the f class stocks I've limited space right now and the sub12 air is really challenging,but as you can see from the video I like to push my limits 😉

@yvessehnaoui3532 6 месяцев назад
Love your videos. Just a question, why dont you use a bubble level to avoid canting which is an unnecessary factor that could influence your tests and groups, specially that you mainly shoot on sandbags and not bipods that can be locked in same canting position. Tx
@tillysgunstocks
@tillysgunstocks 6 месяцев назад
Hi mate,good question.. There's a few reasons actually that I don't use a spirit level on the rifles I've spent near 20 years competing in disciplines that don't allow them, so I've spent a lot of time honing my muscle memory and the setup of the rigs to reduce canting. If I'm shooting paper though,the targets or any cross hairs I've drawn on a board are leveled off, unfortunately you won't see that very easily as the GoPro is usually tucked off to one side to keep it out the firing line. I'm also now almost fully right eye dominant, wether this is a weird thing from making the swap from shooting lefty to right handed or simply the amount of time I spend looking through a scope or just an ageing thing I don't know...? But I can't easily see a level whilst looking through a scope. Even the ones fitted on the arm up front of the air cylinder..just can't see them well enough whilst looking through the scope it distracts me. I don't know if you've seen the second part of the 100yd series but the crowzilla turns out it's not a 45mm it's actually a 35mm 😆 I never actually checked 😂😂 I've got a vid planned for next year where I'll do a demonstration of the effects of cant, should be fun ...
