The Marlin 444 with the 1-38 MicroGroove is an absolute Tack driver with any bullet it can shoot! Even heavy for caliber Hardcast up to 360grains, but! There is a secret to “VELOCITY IS YOUR FRIEND” Let me repeat that, “VELOCITY IS YOUR FRIEND” the 1-38 needs all the velocity it can get when running bullets over 250grains. By chance if your 1-38 444 doesn’t shoot great, then deep clean your barrel with a foaming bore cleaner, a few times, remember you could have 50+ plus years of fouling in the barrel! I’ve messed with a lot of Marlin 444’s with the 1-38 twist, and ALL shot great!

It’s smart to know the limits of what your firearm can and cannot do.

@@riversgunkingdom5360 My hunting buddy has the 444 and I use the 450, we have a friendly rivalry. I recently got some solid copper 240gr/2600fps from Bear Creek Ballistic but still haven’t sighted in with them. I think I have the advantage now 😁

@@blauer2551 That's pretty cool.... I have taken my 450 on fly-in trips to Kodiak Ak and it was nice to have that gun in the cabin at night! I carried bear spray down to the river when I went fishing:)

The Hornady 265 gr loads don't want to stabilize enough to get good accuracy with the older 1-38 twist bore rifles. I own a very early model that slings the Rem 240 gr slugs very well even out at 240 yards. I try to keep my shots inside the 200 yard mark the same as my .300 blkout and .30-30.

I love the .444, but I always wonder who started the 1000 foot pound myth.

Thank you for the question. Here is what I discovered: "The notion that 1,000 foot-pounds of energy is a suitable threshold for ethically taking down a deer has been widely discussed among hunters. However, it’s essential to recognize that this figure isn’t attributed to any specific individual. Instead, it has evolved over time based on practical experiences, ballistics research, and ethical considerations". Thank you for your support and watching the video!

@@riversgunkingdom5360 I tend to take issue with muzzle energy in particular since it’s really just the explosive force required to expel the bullet and doesn’t really inform terminal ballistics. Cast bullets in.44 magnum revolvers at barely 1000 foot pounds at the muzzle have proven very decisive for me on feral hogs up to 350 pounds.

Thank you for leaving feedback. I do have a new video zeroing at 200 yards here on the channel. I hope you found it and I am always glad to do another one at 200 yards or anything you would like to suggest as a new video I would be glad to create one. Thank you for supporting the channel.
