There are 3 simple strategies that every single memory expert uses to improve their long-term memory. And, when you take advantage of them, you’ll be able to learn faster and remember more. In this video, I’m going to reveal the 3 memory secrets used by literally every memory champion and world record holder, and how you can take advantage of it.

As we learned in one of my other RU-vid videos on memory (jle.vi/improvememory), there is no such thing as plain and simple “memory.”
There’s short-term memory, working memory, and long-term memory, which can be broken up even further into episodic memory, spatial memory, semantic memory, and many more.
So if you want a “better memory,” where should you start?
If you ask me, the biggest improvement you can make in your memory has everything to do with training your long-term memory.
And in this video, you will learn how!

Hey! I'm here because I have long term memory issues due to severe trauma and gaslighting from childhood. I have trouble remembering even yesterday. It's very hard to make friends and stay positive when it seems the only thing my brain remembers are the negative moments. People will ask me about a really happy event and I will have almost no memory of it. My whole life is a huge blur with just clear moments of extreme sadness or terror. I really need to improve my memory so I can live happy and not forget my relationships.

Omg me too. I suffered from severe depression and now my memory is so bad (it used to be really good). It takes me ages to get the information to stick to my head while everyone else quickly gets it just like that. It’s so frustrating. I hope things get better for you ❤️

I'm learning to play the card game Bridge. From my perspective it involves four separate categories of things to remember: 1) Bidding conventions. Many of the bids used are a code (called a convention) that has special meaning to your partner, depending on context. These are agreed upon ahead of time and must be adhered to during the game. 2) Signals. A card placed on the table during play may or may not have special meaning to your partner depending on the context. Signal cards are agreed upon ahead of time and should be adhered to during the game, if possible. 3) During the bidding phase you need to remember what each person bid. 3) Cards that have been played. There are thirteen tricks in each hand, it's very important to remember what cards were played and who played them. I see that I can use repetition for #1 and 2. But there isn't time for #3 and 4, the game moves along fast enough that you only get a couple of seconds to see or hear the bids and cards played.

@brundhiver

I am making this reply to you in the case I can help to enlighten your view a bit into why I think he did not summarized further. As a student of memory, and a student of Jonathan's courses, about to get to the point faster, I think that going faster about explaining why and how it works from a beginner's perspective would hinder the process of learning these techniques. As Jonathan said, the more you learn why and how it works, the more it wires into our brains. The more you take your time, the more it sticks, the more we learn, the more we know. We're in a fast pace world I get why getting to the point is important, and he does too, on that fact, Jonathan is a speed expert and have awesome tips how to actually do things faster, I don't know all the details, but I am quite certain he thought that throughly when doing this video. This way of learning (memory techniques) defies the general induced way of learning by society. If you are interested in taking your time and slow down with these techniques, it is the very best way for better results or at least for somebody that has just been initiated to these techniques. Before, I have been introduced to these techniques, at school I was an average B student, and I never have been able to memorize over 200 hundreds numbers in an hour. Even now, I still do remember over 95% of them after a 3 months now, with only 8 reviews total. I have yet to finish to implement all that I need to attain my memory goals. This is the real deal, if you don't know about Jonathan's work, it may change your life and how you think in general if you look into it, but it also requires focus and discipline. Good luck on your interest or project in memory!

I want to use these techniques for learning formulas for my CFA exams. I need to learn and apply countless formulas from a vast variety of topics. During the exam even if I know that a certain question is from a certain topic, would require a certain formula to solve it, even then it is not easy to recall the exact formula to be used.

Your video was great! It was very very useful. But, I think every fact cannot be visualized... there are most facts which cannot be drawn into images. I can use the third method. But actually it doesn't work for me. So, can you upload a video which will be a super memory hack to put those facts (which cannot be visualized) into my long term memory.

i actually want to memorize some skills, like solving a rubik’s cube, getting better at word searches, painting and drawing, improving my singing and dancing and being able to play many instruments. i figured i could memorize useful and effect techniques to learn and improve my skills by practicing and repeating, at the same time, thinking deeply into it as if im visualising. the rest is for academics at school. after watching this video, ive assimilated information on how to memorize efficiently for the long run, so that i dont have to waste time and effort doing it the wrong way

You don't. You leave early. Get lost. Say "didn't I just drive past that" three times. Then pull over and use a GPS. It's the best way. Finding my car is the challenge I often set myself. I take a photo of where I parked or screenshot a Google map of my position. Sometimes for the thrill, I don't do either.

Your video where you deny the existence of aphantasia is insulting and you completely either misunderstand or intentionally misrepresent the information you reference. You also have the comments turned off which tells me you know you've offended people. Stop telling people they are broken and you can fix them for money. Aphantasia is not a defect, it's not a lie, and it's not people being too stupid to know what visualizing means.
