Kyle from www.chapmoto.com spends 60 days in the saddle, travels just over 2,000 miles and rides on the freeway, in the rain, on dirt roads, in Glamis Sand Dunes, through the snow... and has compiled his thoughts and feelings of this neat machine from Honda. It's roots are very based off the original DAKAR winning Africa Twin. It is a neat bike so hear what he has to say... Shop the Africa Twin here:

Very beautiful video. Thats how reviews are made imo. You forgot to mention one gripe, the adventure sports doesn't come stock with a center stand.
@chaparralmotorsports
@chaparralmotorsports 4 года назад
Thank you for your comments. My ATAS came with a center stand, or I would have for sure addressed that, had I known. All of these big ADV bikes really need a center stand so tire repair, oil changes, etc... can be easily done on the trail. Thanks for watching! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

@@manybikes I only rode the DCT for a full day. While I love it in the city/traffic I also was never able to ride really at the limit on the DCT bike in this short time. Like you I was so used to the clutch that I had some problems with the DCT (which should be fine for most riders).

SWEGOTECH it really is a strange feeling. We should meet up an really do a side by side... as our bikes are now the same color! I need to get the Forkshield installed tomorrow... its dizzying on the freeway at speeds as it sits. It strangely feels faster than the ATAS which is strange. Time will tell! Stay tuned.

Looking to buy a 2019 AT Adventure Sport here in the UK as some dealers have reduced the price by £2000. I do think Honda missed a trick by not installing cruise control. Really good review, cheers.

That is pretty close to the average annual mileage put on a typical motorcycle here in the USA. After this past weekend we have been in the saddle for over 3k miles... We have enough time on this bike, and we could ride it for a year and I think the points discussed in this review would not change. Anyhow, thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment. - Kyle

Great review and you hit all of the major points. I don’t trust the “light bar” with as much credit as you gave it . I did add Hepco Becker lower engine guards that really beefed up the lower section. This bike really responds well to a full exhaust (SC Projects in my case) and a fuel management mapping system (Rapid Bike) . It completely changed the sportiness of the bike... something I would highly recommend as simply putting a can on it kinda ruins the sublime mapping of the bike. Question... did you run the seat in the high or low setting? I’m 6.2 and I run it high but boy or boy does it feel tall (until you are moving and then it is perfect).
@chaparralmotorsports

Thank you for taking the time to comment... Your bike sounds SWEET! As for the seat... I need to go take a look as I was unaware it was adjustable! I'll let you know tomorrow. - Kyle
@dp_NYC
@dp_NYC 5 лет назад
One other thing to think about if you are 6ft and above... the bike has probably the worst buffeting that I have ever experienced... the solution is a plastic guard (found on the internet) that attaches to the top of the gas tank reducing air that comes up around the forks... I also had added a movable air deflector at the top of the windshield. The combination has almost completely remedied the issue. (Also riding on the lower seat setting would help too.) Anyway... it is a non event at this point. Fabulous motorcycle coming from a MV Agusta 1090RR and Honda Blackbird tarted up with Ohlins.

I am really liking the Africa Twin, it is a great bike. The weight distribution difference between the standard AT and the ATAS is very noticeable. I TOTALLY thought I would have liked the ATAS way more than the standard AT, and at this point, I am leaning the other way! Shocking to me... but I have not been Off Road on the standard AT as of yet... That will be the kicker I am sure. We will see.... Stay tuned. Thanks for watching! - Kyle & the Chap Moto Team

It should come with 50/50 tires from the factory. The front fender needs three or four more inches of clearance lots of guys have been stuck in the mud with the front wheel unable to turn. And the guy in this video is a very dangerous lane splitter. and you are not allowed to lane split if traffic is going more than 30 miles per hour. But lane splitting in the rain is just asking for trouble.

Can only agree with you on the two-up and loaded riding. Torque, grunt, suspension and roomyness of that machine are incredible. I ride a 2017 Super Tenere ES (mostly because of the lesser maintenance shaft drive) and it's been four times now that we go ride with Ecuador Freedom Bike Rental to explore the backroads over there and they rented me 5 different bikes so far (V-Strom 1000, Tiger 800, GS800, that CRF1000 and just recently a brand new 2019 GS850 Adventure), and by an enormous margin the CRF1000 was the best. It soaks up bumps and holes on unpaved roads as if they were paved. Often I realized we were going about 60 mph on these dirt roads and if it were not for curves or cliffs, we could have gone even faster at times. It is an incredible off-road touring machine but on the asphalt, it felt horrible. It was weak in horsepower and drove like an overcooked spaghetti. The new GS850 was just a bit too small for two-up riding for an entire week and lacked horsepower too for two up and loaded riding on the paved road BUT it handled like a sport bike, thanks to its brand new Anakee III and good suspension in Dynamic mode. These tires are potable on hard pack and gravel but are really not meant for loose stuff or mud, we struggled so much…. If it was not for the chain maintenance, I would convert to the Honda.

Thanks Kyle, Appreciate the response. I'm a bit of a power guy as well, (I have seen some mods for the Honda that "wake it up"), but also get that Honda built this engine to be a dependable chugger with usable torque & power-band, (especially off-road). It seems if one is willing to shell out the extra cash, the KTM Adv. are great bikes. Look forward to more reviews, Jerry

Long is relative I suppose... I had the bike in my possession for 5 months put 5k miles on it an rode it daily... in the Rain, Snow, on the Highway, at the Beach, in the Mountains, in the Desert ... This represented more miles than the average american logs in a 2 year period and covers most types of terrain. Did our best in the time that we had. Thanks for watching! -- Kyle & the Chap Moto Team
