Long Term Review: Schuberth E1 Dual Sport Adventure Helmet 4K
This video is my long-term (4 years, not 3 as I think I mentioned. 2020 doesn't count of course/15k miles/25k kilometres) review of my Schuberth E1 Dual Sport Helmet.
I've taken it on two tours to the Balkans, around Ireland and most of the UK.
Full specs are on the Schuberth website at:
www.schuberth.com/en/products...
Good points:
It's really quiet
Great visibility
Peak and integral sun visor are useful
It fits my head!
Perfect for UK temperatures
Things I don't like:
The weight
The catch for the visor
Not perfect for hot weather
That the pinlock doesn't seal any more
All things considered, the comfort of wearing it means I ignore many of the other things. For a modular helmet (or any helmet for that matter), it's really quiet. Not perfect in all areas, but good enough and I continue to use it for road and trail riding.
I hopt this has been interesting and useful. If it has, please like and subscribe.
Thanks,

I have the same helmet which I bought four years ago. I agree with your assessment except for its suitability in hotter climates, but just only as a matter of degree. I live in Florida, USA, and it gets very hot and humid in the summer. I find it's comfortable even in those conditions but I chalk up our different impressions of this aspect to be mainly personal preference. All in all, I a really good video. Thank you for the content!

Good to know! Though you might be more acclimatised to the warm weather than I am. I’m used to the cold of the UK where 80F is a hot day!

aye! just bought me this one spontaneously. had something different in mind but trying it on i thought it was a real good bargain. your video and what you mention in pros and cons is identical with my impression. has to proof itself in hot conditions. also had the feel its a 80/20 road/offroad helmet. thei weight for me is no issue. size L (59) weighs about 1695gr and since its balance feels just right i dont think it will be of concern. me it also fits really neat and what i would like to point out explicitly is the overall build quality: its just very sturdy, thought through and solid. the way that it locks when you flip it down, the way it then isolates - that just feels really really good. great helmet. great buy

Great honest review. If I recall, I think the head shape for Schuberth helmets is basically round as compared to intermediate oval, which seems to fit me better. I have an Arai XD4. Shame though, I’d like to enjoy the quiet of a Schuberth.
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 года назад
That sounds like my head 🤣. I’ve tried Arai’s in the past and the don’t quite fit me for the same reason. To have them fit me round the ears, means too much front to back movement, and if that’s snug, then it’s too tight on my ears. This is fine though. People have different shaped heads and I think it’s impossible to make one that would fit everyone well.

I love my XD4, I just wish it had a drop down visor. Have you tried wearing custom earplugs? It’s a great combo with the XD4.

I’d like to. But the vendors I’ve found for them here are charging far more than I can afford. So for now regular ear plugs suffice. Sigh.

Hi Aimen, I think the Neotec II is a great helmet. Unfortunately it doesn't quite fit my head shape. I know others that it fits perfectly, but they don't suit Schuberth helmets.... I guess it comes down to what works best for each individual. And the depth of their pockets.

Weight is important, as you stated, Andre. Maybe you go with Carbon fiber in the future. My head fits perfectly with X-Lite/Nolan, Arai and Shoei. On the Aprilia Tuono 1100 I've been wearing a Schuberth R2 this year, quite a good helmet. But I need a size larger than usual, modern Schuberths are all smaller than expected. Thanks Günter, there’s a few options. Hopefully I can find an opportunity to try some on. The LS2 Explorer is on the list, as is the Airoh Commander. I’ll see what fits my head! It’s a spice time off the year!

I have had mine for 5 years. Went through two sena's during the ownership and the 2nd one is on the brink. It never connected great with my bike and phone, but worked good enough. The peak/shield mechanism broke twice. The modular flip up mechanism is getting loose and the drop down sun visor will not go up with the switch and has to be pushed up by hand. The visor will often drop down if you ride with it up at higher speeds. Those are the bad things, which are what always seems to stick out. The helmet is comfortable and fairly quiet, but not like the reviews make it seem. I guess to me, i expected a little more for the price. I just ordered a KLIM Krios Pro-carbon and a Cardo Packtalk. Personally, no more modulars for me - heavier and more things to malfunction.
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles Год назад
Yup, and good to know. Sounds like there’s a few other things that I can look forward to! I also have a Klim TK1200 Carbon which is a flip up but has a transitions lens instead of a flip down. So far that seems to work quite well, but we shall see.
@onesharpboradhead
@onesharpboradhead Год назад
@@PeakMotorcycles I have been using my Klim Krios Pro with the Cardo KTM Packtalk. Helmet - super light weight and vents air much better than the Schueberth. The transition lense is great, I did not think I would like this, but it works really well and I can see out this shield much better than the Schueberth, not sure why, but I can. The Cardo - well first off, don't buy the KTM specific one - I thought that his particular KTM branded packtalk was designed to more easily connect to KTM bikes - the only thing different is that it says KTM on it. The Cardo unit works much better for phone calls and the sound quality is really good for listening to music. It is a little more complicated to connect between the bike, phone, app, and helmet and when using Pandora there is an extra step to connect. This tech crap is a little annoying and I might find a better way to connect all this crap - but for now, I guess I would say that the Sena was less complicated to connect and use, but the Cardo works better. Oh, last but not least - the primary reason that I bought the Schueberth was because it was supposed to be so much quieter than other helmets - honestly - I cannot tell the difference at all between the KLIM and the Schueberth in wind noise, etc. Overall, I like the KLIM much more than the Schueberth.

That's disappointing that it fogs up. I was looking at it for the reason, it has more ventilation at the chin. I thought that would alleviate the fogging.
@PeakMotorcycles

It was ok when new, but I think the seals wear over time and the bigger the visor, the bigger the pinlock and the bigger the risk of a slight air gap somewhere to let the moisture in. I’ve used mine for a few years and have been mostly happy with it. I’m now trying a LS2 Explorer Carbon. Not in the same ‘premium’ category as the Schuberth, and not a flip up, but seems and is so much lighter. I now have the LS2 Sena installed and just received a custom GoPro mount made just for the helmet, so will so how that works out in comparison.
@ldrider82
@ldrider82 5 месяцев назад
Now that you have had it for a while, how are the chin bar detents holding up? I have a 3 year old HCJ and the they are worn out. Stop for a fill up or swig of water and the thing just flops down. Have you experienced much buffeting coming from the peak at highway speeds?
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 5 месяцев назад
So far so good. I do have a couple of other helmets though, so I’m not using it all the time. There is some buffeting from the peak, so I tend to take it off if I have a long motorway day.

Hi Andre - you mentioned goggles… I’m new to riding in general, but very new (~30 miles of green laning) and whilst goggles look cool, what’s the deal with them? Why are they a thing?
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 года назад
It’s more of an Enduro/MX thing. You get more airflow through your helmet to cool you down and you don’t set dirt and dust blowing up inside. You can also get tearoffs for the goggles to quickly shift mud and dust off the surface. Not sure what else really, I guess they don’t mist up as much as a visor in cooler weather either as you’re not breathing inside them. I’m sure that someone that knows more than me can give a better explanation but hopefully that’s a start….

I had one but I had to return it. The vibration from the peak due to Vibration was unbearable. Tried different screens. To no avail. 😔 amazingly quiet though. So I bought it's cousin, the c 3 pro Sheuberth
@PeakMotorcycles
@PeakMotorcycles 2 года назад
What bike were you riding? I’ve used mine on a 2017 and then 2020 R1200/1250GS with the stock screen with a little wunderlich wing on it and had no problems at all. Also on my CRF300 Rally, though that’s been mostly low speed riding. I had heard others say the vibration was a problem, so I don’t think you’re alone. A bad batch perhaps, or just not great in the airflow on certain bikes? Also, others have said it’s fine for them in hot weather, so perhaps it’s how the airflow hits the vents?
@DaveDayve

@@PeakMotorcycles had it on a Gs 800 with stock screen. Tried it on an africa twin recently was Also troublesome. Though rider height, screen height and the fact that the top peak isn't supported by a 'third' leg so to speak, doesn't help I'm sure

@@DaveDayve thanks. I should try mine on my GS without the wing, maybe that’s the trick. (I put the wing on years ago as the wind noise off the top of the screen on my helmet meant I had to have my Bluetooth volume on max. Maybe that airflow would also cause the vibration? I know that when I put my GS screen to it’s highest setting it does some odd things like it feels as though the air is being pushed up and then I almost get a backdraft as the eddy in the wind curls over me. I guess that could cause horizontal airflow to instead come in from above, and hit the peak from above where it’s solid rather than the front where it’s thin and can flow up the gap between the peak and the helmet. I’ll have a play and see what I can break to make it vibrate 🤣

Hi, I’m sorry but I don’t. The only thing I can think of is the plastic bits that fit it to the helmet. Are the properly seated and in the locked position? Also is the visor properly fitted on both sides? (I’m guessing all is fine, but itms the only things I could think of…)

HJC do a modular helmet the C80

Thanks Chris, I’d seen that. They even do it in matching colours for my GS, though it’s the same weight as the Schuberth, 1850g +/- 50g, and I’m hoping to go lighter if I can. For example the LS2 Explorer is 1380g +/- 50g and is a similar price (or a little more, depending on colour and offers) than the HJC. I shall find one and let you know!

Bell MX-9 offers way better value for money and pairs much better with enduro bikes. MIPS, the ability to wear goggles without taking out the visor and much better ventilation. The only downside is worse soundproofing which can be easily fixed with $1 earplugs.
