The Schuberth E2 is the German manufacturer's 'Adventure Style' modular helmet. It's based on the C5, which is proving to be a popular helmet in the modular or flip front segment. But obviously, apart from the peak, there are a number of design changes on the E2 from its C5 sibling. Having ridden in this for some time now I thought I'd bring you a comprehensive look at the helmet, as well as share my views of how it performs.

I have the E2 and sent it back to Schuberth to fix limitations. That was in December of 2023. It is now April 21, 2024, and I still don’t have my helmet back. Here’s my review. 1) The helmet is actually quite big, bulky, and catches a lot of wind from the front, and crosswind. For reference: I’m 6’2”, ride a GS Adventure with the stock windshield, and the beak is the main issue. 2) For GS Adventure riders, the helmet, with the beak installed, will not fit in the top case. Thus, you’ll need to carry it with you, have a helmet lock, or trust that no one will steal it while you’re away from the bike. Main problems are with the Sena, which is utterly useless! Unfortunately, Schuberth found a way to make it near impossible to use any other comms units than the one they customized for the E2. 3) In short, The Sena intercom install is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. 3.1) The side control comes with a watch battery, which will need to be replaced over time, rather than drawing power from the main battery 3.2) The mic pickup, regardless of software adjustments, is sensitive to the degree that it cuts out audio transmission, including GPS directions, music, phone calls, etc. 3.3) You cannot charge the unit on the fly without it turning off! Meaning, on a long distance ride, you can’t plug into a battery bank to keep the Sena charged, without it turning off. It does take quite some time to charge to full, which means that you’ll be without audio for hours. If you pull over for that long, sure, then it’s not an issue. However, if you’re riding long distance, it will definitely become a major limiting factor. 3.4) The speakers come preinstalled and you cannot use wired earplugs for audio. There is a $15 dongle, you can find it on Amazon, then deconstruct the helmet, unplug the speakers, splice the dongle into the wiring and you now have a headphone jack. At a combined value of $1200 for the helmet with the Sena, it is mind boggling that Schuberth decided to take options off the table, rather than providing more options. 4) Compared with my low-cost Caberg Tourmax Sarabe, the Schuberth is overpriced, limiting customer options (i.e; using a Cardo), substantially louder, and overall a less desirable helmet. Lastly, I’m reiteration that I’m writing this on April 21, 2024. I returned my helmet to the Schuberth rep in December of 2023, to address the issues caused by their adaptation of the Sena system. I have NOT yet received my helmet back. Bottom line; this is a definite “no buy” for me.

Thanks for the great video. Nice analysis on the helmet. I just upgraded from E1. I do like the helmet. A few comments after a recent 5-day trip: 1) The helmet is a bit noisy. I guess its to expected from a modular helmet. 2) The vents were not as good as I expected. I was riding in a hot weather and I could not keep the lid down because I was simply too hot with it down. 3) E2 was very comfortable. This was my first ride after purchase and it fit perfectly. 4) I got used to the weight. Although my neck was a bit sore for the first 2 days. I was fine by the third day. 4) I am a 61-year-old GS rider & I recommend the helmet.

Great effort on the review thank you for the quality job. Here are a few of my comments... I have an E1 in the "guardian red" graphics (its OK, I got the unit from Schuberth USA during a clearance as they moved from California to mid-west) and I desperately wanted a modular with a visor as my daily ride quite often had me riding directly into the sun on the way to work (east) and as you could imagine, the double whammy, on the way home i.e. west. On my C3 I had the Iridium shield but that still wasn't sufficient, but with the peak, I simply tip my head down and the sun is no longer an issue. In my opinion get a peak/visor its just super handy. And on a BMW K1600 GTL with the windshield up or down and doing 140+ the peak generated minimal turbulence to my head. Next suggestion is get the Iridium shield and yellow or clear inner shield. Why you might ask? Iridium blocks UV which gives you sunburns / cancers. Which also sunburns your eyes. But of course the Iridium shield is too dark for night, thus the swapping the inner shield for Yellow or clear, At night I simply flip the main up and out of the way and drop down the yellow , all is good.

I have black tape across the visor of my C3 for the sun and really wished i had a peak in the glare of Southern India and also a 12 hour into the sun ride here in an Australian Summer, so with a trip to Colombia i took my XD4 with peak. Loved the peak but a flip up is so much better for travel....having a drink or chatting to road block cops etc etc. So the E2 is best of both worlds and will be our next helmets.

Liked my E1 but moved to the AGV Tourmodular. Honestly prefer the AGV, lighter, more comfortable and I think it is as well made. The field of vision is superb. I thought I would miss the peak but no as I was always affected by cross winds and it added noise.

For me it's a question of what's the effect of the peak when the visor is up. I prefer to ride visor up with the internal shade visor down. The problem with C-series Schuberth is that the wind buffet puts a downward force on the visor, and first wears out the positive stops, then eventually, the visor just drops with any wind force. Now I keep the visor up using duct tape -always a classy look when riding my R1200. Ergo, Im considering the E2 because (yes, I do enduro mode) Im thinking the peak will block the downward wind force on the visor. Any feedback on this?

Been wearing Schuberth helmets for about 15 years. The lock for the chinbar in the up position will come handy when it starts getting loose after about a year. My current lid is a 3 year old Touratech Aventuro Mod (E1), and when I nod to say thank you with the chinbar up... it comes down halfway, can't see nothing!... 😱 Wish it had a lock.
@JezNashMusic
@JezNashMusic 7 месяцев назад
In the dry, without the comms fitted, absolutely superb - comfy and quiet. However, whilst the comms kit is good, you can't close the flip front without snagging the mic on the chin lining. In my case, it also prized the mic out of its socket and onto the road, where it got smooshed by a lorry. You need to stop the bike, take your gloves off (so you can feel where the mic is) tuck it in with one hand and at the sdame time lift the lining over it as you close the flip with the other. Ideally you need three hands. Furthermore, if it is raining, forget it. It is absolutely lethal. The rain leaks onto the inside of the visor, and is then blown into your eyes by the chin vent. I rode it in the rain for one 45min trip and by the time I got to my destination, there was more water inside the lid than outside. Like trying to ride through frosted glass - horrifically dangerous. A truly shocking design which, I suspect, preys on the kind of ADV rider who only rides in the dry. Some of us ride year-round in all conditions, which is why I didn't mind paying close to £700 for a helmet. I'm returning it today.
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 7 месяцев назад
Interesting thanks for the feedback. I find that if I push the mic into position when I put the helmet on, I can just close the chin bar without it affecting the mic at all, with gloves on. I never encounteed water getting in with the visor closed, even in torrential downpours, it seemed to make a good seal. Maybe yours wasnt seated properly or faulty?

Another reviewer trashed the helmet primarily for the visor. He said it sticks and is difficult to close and open and it takes two hands just to get the visor open and close. Second, he says the visor leaks in the rain. Third l, he was getting fog in the pinlock. The other item he hit it for was the peak vibrates and it annoying. Have you had any of these issues, or did he just get a lemon?
@mancavemoto
@mancavemoto 6 месяцев назад
Personally I had no issue with the visor, it was pretty smooth and easy to open one handed. I didn't get any leaks either so i suspect his may have been poorly fitted/adjusted, or indeed faulty. No fogging either, but I may not have worn it in as bad conditions as he did? I will agree to some extend about the peak, it doesnt vibrate as such, but the peak does move up and down. Schuberth claim this to stop the peak from grabbing the wind causing buffeting or micro vibrations. I found it a bit annoying initially, but once you're used to it, you tend not to notice it. Personally having worn both i'd choose the C5 over the E2, the lack of peak is not so much of an issue when theres a drop down visor.
@Laksujaakso
@Laksujaakso Год назад
The prefit comms system is a big no-no. You don’t to choose your preferred comms system, you don’t get to upgrade the speakers, instead of charging only your comms system you need to be charging your whole helmet and if you choose to not use a system you still have the speakers and stuff to carry around inside the helmet. Helmet makers should focus on making fitting any comms system as easy as possible instead of this.

It felt like I was been strangled when I closed the strap, and at this I can only close to the first click on the strap without depriving myself of oxygen. Helmet tech here: you can fit an external comms to it, it just won't be the neatest install. I've installed an Interphone Ucom, Cardo Edge, Sena 50s and Sena 20s, all fit in there using the adhesive mount on the intercom itself, plus with the Cardo I was able to poke the microphone out of the space for the SC2 mic and it made it look really clean
