After locating a guesthouse we go for a look around taking for a bit of a walking tour and meeting some of the locals and how they react to seeing visitors in their village of Long Tieng. The Headquarters for the CIA during the secret war in Laos.

Thank you for doing this trip. This is my hometown in 1975. My father and my uncle have house there. I also still remember just like yesterday….some day soon I want to see my father’s home. Anyway thank you so much friend.🙏🙏🙏🙏

Invested a lot of money in stock for that store. Long Tieng WalMart. Friendly sales people usually sell more than those who sit and stare. Some pretty ladies there too.

Long cheng looks like a simple village now, but at the end of the 60's, it was the largest military base, second largest city in laos and had the busiest airfield in the world for a short period

Glad you made the trip to Long Tieng. It's intiged me since reading The Ravens back in 2000 and being in Vientiane then yet unable to make the trip due to it being a restricted zone. I'm retiring to Thailand next year's and will be coming up to Laos with Long Tieng at the top of the list for a visit.

Excellent job on the video! I like the map that shows your route and where you are. You know how to properly eat the sticky rice (grabbing with your hand and make a fist to make a ball). Thanks for posting your trip. I was in Long Cheng as a child and was at the evacuation on the airstrip in May 14, 1975.

@@NowinLao I found it like that in the north of Viet Nam. Played chess with an elder in Sa Pa, he'd been involved, spoke French, some English. No negativity from him at all. While playing (which he thrashed my arse) he filled me with his homemade Black rice wine....damn I was sick afterwards. It was a really great memory of the trip overall. Cheers mate.

Try walking with camera in north west Africa or Middle East most counties and I guarantee you it will be your last walks. This is why I love traveling in South Asia people are friendly and they smile (most of the time) especially in Philippines

If I find clothes or shoes I like and they are on sale, I buy a couple of them. I have a box of clothes and shoes from living in Philippines, Japan and local from over 20 years ago, and I just haven't needed to break them out yet. :0)

I spent 3 years in South Korea in the early 70's and much of what I'm seeing in this video reminds me of those days. The Korean landscape back then wasn't as lush though. Are mosquitoes a problem there?

Buying duplicate pairs of shoes is something I never would have done when I was younger. I would have always assumed that the next pair of shoes and the novelty of them would make them better than any old ones. When I got older I realized the law of averages exists and to always double down on exceptional things.

I was there in 1970 in elementary school 2nd grader. Then the pathej Lao Vietkong soldiers fired guns, rockets toward that airport. They burned 1 T28 fighter plane.

Todd, those people are not Hmong, they are Khamu or they call Lao Theng, Long Cheng used to be a second largest City in Laos 1970-1975, now look like a ghost town, so sad.

I wondered is the place's name 'Long Tieng,' same with the word 'Long Chaeng' (ລ້ອງແຈ້ງ) called by locals. Asked for Thai FC.

Yes, have seen different spellings, but I normally use the same spelling as Google maps for villages so people can locate them easily. Even though it is spelt 'Tieng', it is still pronounced Cheng 👍

I don’t think I would have good night sleep in Long Cheng. I might have night mare because Long Cheng was a sorrow place for the Hmong. I still have memories of body bags of our Hmong soldiers lying alongside the air strip and the sounds of crying of children, wives , parents and relatives of the the love ones who died.
