This is me. I got an M3 Macbook Air when they launched in March. It's my first Mac ever. No regrets so far. The MacOS learning curve wasn't as bad as I feared it would be, and I was easily able to find alternatives for the few Windows exclusive software that I use.

@@evanmarch4142 I had Asus Ryzen gaming laptop. Never liked it, screen was super bad and track pad had tracking problems.

I literally just made the switched yesterday for the same reasons. However I went with the 16" model just because of the screen size and just a personal preference of mine. Taking videos on my iPhone and just air dropping things to my MacBook Pro is just spectacular. Hope you enjoy your new device as much as I am enjoying mine! Also, just found your channel and left that sub!

It all depends on the software you need. If you are only in video editing and generic apps like notes, office and a browser then sure it will be a blast. I believe without the need to edit videos on a laptop, Chromebook can be a very good choice and much cheaper too - no need to have a fully functional computer really.

This is very true. Even an older laptop repurposed to be chrome book can be a great laptop.

Appreciate the perspective and thank you for not making it a this and that sucks with Mac and with Windows you can do this. It's a given the experience is different and both systems have strengths and weaknesses. For me the draw to Mac world was the stability and security it offered. That was 2009. Never looked back. Enjoy that new MBP, I have the same machine and love it!

I made the switch to MBAir 11” back in 2011. It had 2 gig ram. 2! And I pushed that little guy producing big Powepoint shows with all kinds of windows open. It never missed a beat. Loved that thing. By 2007 the op sys and other software had grown a lot so 2 gig finally was just not enough. I finally bought a 2007 MBAir 13”. With 8 gig. It was fine but I passed it on to family and got a 13” M2 MBAir with 16 gig to make sure it had some future. As I am 81 this might be the last one so I treated myself to the 27” Studio monitor and the usual array of wireless peripherals. When I need to do work at the desk it is just so awesome, Never regretted the switch to Mac. And the 2 iPhones, iPad, Apple TV, all work seamlessly. It’s been a long journey from my Apple II in 1984 when I was 41 through all the IBMs XT, 286, 386, Pentium et al and then laptops where I always had to fix something. Never regretted the switch. It just works. Note. I am not a gamer.

Welcome to the Mac world, fellow Canuck :) You can bypass the Airdrop steps: assuming your MBPro and iPhones are under the same Apple ID, select the folder on the MB and right click. There you should see the option to Take a photo with your iPhone and/or iPad and voilà, your iphone pics go directly to the MB. You have a new subscriber in me. Cheers.

It’s not surprising. Most students and techies do dual use between Apple and Windows devices. Some have Linux, too.

For laptops, I’ve always used pc. I recently got an mbp m3 max 64gb unified memory and it’s a nice machine forsure. I still use a pc for gaming purposes and recreational use but for work and majority of my task Im seeing myself naturally going to the Mac rather the pc. I think they both have their own pros and cons but doing the switch to any M series Apple computer is a big thing with unified memory

I purchased the same MBP a few weeks ago, except in silver. I use it as a desktop replacement hooked up to my 28" 4K display and the usual peripherals, so I have the best of both worlds (desktop and travel). I think you made a very good choice (he said with great bias).

Haha very true. Yes being portable with my past windows laptops was a pain. This MacBook is just as fast when on the go. It’s great.

@@evanmarch4142 Yep. My last laptop was an ASUS VivoBook S15. A very good laptop, my wife still uses it as a desktop replacement, but not a good travel device (especially on airplanes). And of course the display quality doesn't even come close.

sure....it's not a new notion but my favorite feature of Macs and Apple products in general is the usable life span. Until my purchase of a base Mini M1 in 2020, I used ol' Intel Mac Pro 3,1 first built in 2008 as my daily driver.

I own surface and its by far the worst pc i ever had. Performance is absolute sheet for 1500€. Planning to switch soon.

For content creation (photo/video/music editing), MacBooks and Mac Minis are the best. Only the Asus ProArt or Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i are decent competition. Dell fell off, but the Dell XPS 16 is still solid non-MacBook laptop choice. Desktops are a lot more competitive if you have an excellent Nvidia RTX GPU. Examples: 3070, 3080, 3090, 4070, 4080, or 4090.

I use both macs and pcs, Macs are way better laptops, build quality is excellent, I used to think Macs (and to be fair windows PCs vs dos command prompts - I'm old humour me) were for idiots, but they just work, they are expensive but you pay for what you get, my one issue is the cost of spare parts, a new screen hurts the pocket, so protect your laptop with a £15 transparent (or whatever wacky design you fancy) plastic cover it will save those dents.

Mate, if you think the MacBook screen is the best on a laptop, you’ve clearly never used a 120hz oled panel on some of the Asus laptops. Not to mention the intense motion blur on MacBooks.

I currently use a ux6404 zenbook pro 14, a 2500usd laptop. But it couldnt hold 45w on the cpu due to factory dried paste. Dried out in 2days. I had to take the risk and liquidmetal paste it. I also have to use process lasso pro because windows energy management is trash. Now this laptop handles davinci and blender really well as the it can handle now 100w sustained on the cpu alone. Fhe 4070 also has a 125w budget. Nonetheless i had an m1max 10/32 1tb 32gb 16inch and that thing still smokes this laptop and stays much more quiet. I recently bought a 16inch m3max base but returned it. I might just wait for m4max or get a 2nd hand m2max. Apple is the way to go!

You are the perfect Apple fanboy example, trying to find good reasons (even if they don't really exist) to explain why he spent so much money on a laptop, when he could use a refurbished Think Pad with 150$-600$ doing exactly the same job (or even better). Consumerism at its finest. All the IT, software developers and hackers experts like me, laughing with all you Apple fanboys, that have so demanding jobs to accomplish, that you need a 4,000$ laptop.

lol. That comment brings back memories at work when we used 486s or Pentium in DOS. When one of our guys tried the new dangled Windows, I said Windows was a bit girly. Real men use DOS! We write batch files and create our own start up menus etc. hah! Those were the days.
