Don't know if you will see this as the video is 3 years old. But you need to demo the new XXIO X model. It is made for slightly stronger, faster swing speeds, with a Miyazaki AZ-II shaft. the 2022-23 version with green trim now has an adjustable hosel that allows you to adjust for loft, face angle and lie angle, so it has everything you were missing here. No need to buy the more expensive Prime. The XXIO 12 may be too light for many, as you discuss here. The XXIO X stiff flex shaft weighs 46 grams. I just got a new one of the prior 2019 XXIO X models with orange trim and a non-adjustable hosel. It is 10.5 degrees, and has the Miyazaki AX-I shaft in stiff flex, 47 grams, 4.9 torque. The shaft has the International Flex Code printed on it, 4333, showing the flex in different sections of the shaft. The IFC 4 is between regular and stiff, and 3 is regular. I hit it at the PGA Superstore near me in Rockville, Maryland today, June 22, 2023 and compared it with my current driver, a Callaway Epic GBB Sub Zero 10.5 loft with a Graphite Design Tour AD-IZ 6 stiff flex shaft that weighs 63 grams with 3.5 torque. Here are the results: XXIO X average ball speed 119.9, launch angle 18.1, Backspin 2248, peak 84, descent angle 37.1, offline 2.9 right, carry 198 total 220. Best shot was ball speed 123.3, peak 99, carry 206, total 230. With my Callaway Epic average ball speed 116.0, launch 18.0, backspin 1908, peak 74, descent angle 34.1, offline 2.0 right, carry 191, total 215. Best shot was ball speed 117.8, peak 84, carry 198, total 222. So basically I got 4 to 5.5 mph more ball speed, 7 to 8 yards more carry, and 5 to 8 yards more total right off the bat. Probably could increase that after I become more used to the XXIO. The numbers may not seem impressive to younger players, but I am told they are pretty good for an 82 year old, and I just turned 82 on June 17.

“What’s my learning in all this” is such a good question! I presume it takes a person that have a fair amount of self esteem to let his ego aside to ask this instead of making assumptions of how it might be. (Thank you for the good content, it has found its way all the way to Sweden...)

Enjoyed these two Ronnie videos. He and Lindsay represent a sizable piece of the current golf market, so it’s very smart to highlight equipment options tailored or tailor-able to these types. Met Ronnie at the PGA Show and what you two say about his personality is dead-on. Thanks!

Great video guys. This is a lesson I've had to learn over the past year. I've always done better with heavier shafts (played DGS400 for years)and swingweights, but I've turned 50, lost more than 50 pounds, and had to re-learn my swing. As an experiment I went lighter in my irons (J15 CB's: from Recoil Proto 125 F4 to the Recoil 110 F4), which worked out well - I picked up about 10 yards each with the irons, with a little higher ball flight, and good control. I then did the same thing with driver 3-wood, and hybrid - it's worked well with the driver and hybrid, but 3-wood is a work in progress. Keep up the great content!

I want to know your guys take on Kyle Berkshire driver setup for his long drive that he revealed he didn't use super stiff shafts like most other long drivers did. He used Regular flex shaft 48 inch instead. Most long drivers at his speed use XXX to 5X stiff shafts. But he did use 2X shaft when he's playing golf for more control.

Went to Maverik Max with the stock Riptide and my world changed straighter longer way more confident. Not much change in speed the club just feels right. So glad you do these with Ronnie thanks guys.

That internal governor is definitely a thing for me. Just had a club fitting at CC. And I swing my 3 wood faster than my driver. Because I used to feel in my head that if I get after it with my driver that is is going right in to the other fairway. Hahaha. Hopefully when I get my g410 w/ veylix alpina shift. I can start to let that driver fly.

Quick question for you guys... I’m 49, 10 hcp with a swing speed around 93/95mph and I got a rental prime xxio that was stunning. Back home, I couldn’t find a used one (too pricey to buy new...) and I bought a standard Xxio 9 stiff (not really, it seems like a regular of other brands), but now if I don’t hit it super smoothly, my misses are high snap hooks. I’d really appreciate your thoughts, thanks for your great job, as usual.

Do you think if the strike on the face was the same he would get a different result? He seemed to stroked the faster swinging club more out the toe probably due to being able to rotate his body more through impact due to the lighter load. Is it that he couldn’t find the same centre of gravity on the new club versus the ping? Look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I had the privilege(dubious)to try an XXI0 driver. It was as light as a Junior driver. It felt and sounded cheap. The ball went pretty far, but it was all over the place. I usually have a draw swing, but the ball kept going right. I think the shaft was to blame. Too flexible. I swing about 85-90 mph, so I'm no big hitter. I finally slowed my swing a bit and the driver started going straight. This club is for those who have slow swings. The prices are ridiculous compared to other drivers. The Chinese population in Vancouver constitutes 75 percent of the population, so it's not coincidental that XX10 built a huge factory in Vancouver. The Chinese and Japanese like the prestige of an expensive club. They are the target market for the makers of XX10. The long hitters would hate this club. Not controllable.

The latest Titleist VG3 has a similar concept of light and fast. They offered a light and adjustable, and an even lighter non-adjustable version. My wife ended up in the adjustable version and it renewed her interest in golf. It was described to us as a club for golfers that still had speed in their body but are hitting the power limit of what they could swing. I gave testing a go, too... And nothing but personal pride stopped me from going away with the faster+further+accurate club as well. Seems I also have some speed left in the tank that I'm not using in favor of the "sledgehammer". I heavily considered giving this year's model a fair chance in my bag when it released... But the world went bsod. A sign?

This was a great video. But can you do another video with someone in the 100 - 105mph range? My club sells a ton of these, even the club pro plays these and he isn't a slow swinger. But I'm not totally convinced.

Ian, Matt, Nice to see content with closer to ‘real world’ club head speeds, although 90 plus is actually not slow for standard amateur golfers. I would be intrigued by a follow up on this lighter / softer equals faster, equipment philosophy. I would like to see the deflection data for a number of these super light shafts using GEARS. Unfortunately as you know, the output speed, is not proportional to the input effort in many inefficient amateur swings. This can result in excessive shaft deflection (I have recorded 70 mm toe down and 32 mm forward deflection using a 50 gram Tensei red regular, with less than 80 mph driver club head speed for example) In your opinion why do club shaft manufacturers not offer a variety of shaft profiles in the super light weight category?

Sorry for possibly somes mistakes in my english writing... I'm a senior golfer, around same speed like Ronnie... Now I play Ping G400 MAX,10.5° set big + (11.5°), and put an Aldila Quaranta A40 around 44g, 44.25 and I chooke theclub maybe 1 inch ( 5.9'' my height ), put a 16g back on the head. Stability and efficiency. And if I have the possibility to play the G410, I'll try the 12° ( 10.5°- 13.5°). If Ronnie try around 44 inch and his shaft Aldila in the A40 0r 50 and the weight in fade position, maybe la combinaison Gagnante.

Typically someone with a slower swing, not a lot of wrist hinge, and an early release, won't see much speed increase in a longer driver.
