459 mile trek from Niagara Falls to Rhode Island on the Can-Am Spyder. Lots of things to see in the Ocean State. This trek is my longest yet on my Spyder.
This channel chronicles my adventures using a 2023 Can-Am Spyder RT Limited as my only conveyance. We’ll go on a great adventures as well as mundane errands. We’ll also discuss accessories and gear for the Can-Am Spyder.
I usually wear a Tourmaster Transition 4 jacket, a Scorpion EXO-AT950 helmet, and either Klim Baja gloves or Joe Rocket Windchill gloves. I use a GoPro Hero 10 camera and a Purple Panda mic, and I edit video with Final Cut Pro on an iPad Pro.

To avoid that bad, very low MPG, try and wait to reset your trip meters until after you start the Spyder. Don't reset first, followed by a quick shutdown. I had the same problem on my first Spyder, and I accidently discovered that by waiting to reset until after starting the Spyder, that fixes the issue. I suspect that shutting down immediately after a reset, somehow messes up the Spyder's MPG calculation. Here's why: You might have noticed that after a trip meter reset, the new MPG doesn't show up until you ride about 1 or 2 miles. If you shutdown before it's finished calibrating the new MPG, I think it gets messed up. I have never had that problem since, simply by waiting to reset until after I re-start the Spyder, then riding at least the 1 or 2 miles for the new MPG to show up. Keep in mind, when the new MPG first shows up, it may only show about 10 MPG, but it quickly rises up into the 20s and soon into the 30s MPG as you ride for a few miles. All of this is only what I have experienced to get rid of that stupid 3 or 4 MPG showing for the trip. I hope this made some kind of sense. 😳🙄🤪😅

I will try that, thanks! Kind of a quirky bug in the system, but at least you found a work-around.

I loved this video, thank you for taking us on a nice ride Chris. I lookes like your Spyder really is a stable machine that just wants to go straigth. Talking about the extra stops for eating and drinking..... I never paid attention to your helmet. I have a helmet model that is called modular helmet, or flip-up as your Brittish viewers call it. It allows you to flip up the chin and thereby create an opening where one can drink and eat. Some helmets are not legal to drive that way, while others, that has a lock, you can do that. I may have mentioned it before, but there are also tank bags that has an internal container that you can fill with water or soda, and it provides with a hose and a valve mouth piece that one push up under the chin and you can drink from it. I dont know if you have a tank bag or will ever get one, but if you do, it would be interesting to see if you can show us how to fit a tank bag on a Spyder. When it comes to mpg, some people care more about the Smiles per gallon, then the miles per gallon. I kind of agree on both, but considering the horrific fuel prices in Sweden, one has to at least be aware. I am really looking forward how much difference the 70 vs 75 will do. Can you also do a comparrison with 65? I think it might be a big difference. Then perhaps on another day a 55. Cheers from the Swede in Mexico

From one ex-pilot to another....thanks Chris. It was great to hear your long distance ride review. The Sport Touring bike I currently have (Suzuki GSX650 F) holds 19 litres (approx 5 US gallons) and I get around 380 km on a tank (approx 236 miles or 47mpg) on an inline 4-cylinder engine. However, I am definitely looking forward to the day I can step up to a Spyder. Even if it only gives 30 miles/gallon, the comfort and fatigue-alleviating ride will be more than worth it. Thanks again for all your videos.

I say for the speed 30.6 is not bad going I have heard so e people say between 34-36 mpg is about average for the spyder engine? Not quite sure what speed that is based on maybe 60mph who knows? Anyway thanks for the distance ride out, no issues and she handled very well.

Wife and I live in upstate NY AND have ridden our 2021 S2S RT, to Vadosta, GA, to Bangor, Maine, Mistic, CT and through VT. We both drive and switch out about ever 200 miles. We like to stay off highways as much as possible. Communicate with Cardo com. Been through some major downpours and planning a Canada trip next. Issues for me! Driver seat not male friendly so I use a Butt Buster for comfort. Throttle vibration. Ordered foam grips. Back seat on S2S is very comfortable for a 200 pounder. Thought giving up driver seat would bother me but now really enjoy riding in back. As for fuel mileage ? Bike calls for hightest. We use both 87 and hightest. Not sure if that effects MPG. Does effect liveliness of power. The trip monitoring system leaves alot to be desired and do not use it as I do not use BRP trip system. We sold our 2 wheelers, that we had ridden across the US, and really enjoy riding together. We had originally planned converting our Goldwing which was less expensive than a new Can Am but it was the Covid aria and a minimum of 4 months to complete ate into our vacation time. Still considering a custom seat. Have BRP lighted floorboards, love them, and adjustable handlebars, another story. Happy riding!!

We have the same bike. An aftermarket seat, we have an Ultimate seat, doesn't solve the "male" problems.

Congratulations on your first long trip. I did my first long trip in fall 2022, an over 500 miles trip which I cut in half with an overnight stay. I managed mileage between 33 and 37mpg on that trip while riding at my comfortable speed of 105km/h, or 65mph using the wonderful cruise control. 3 other trips in 2023 also gave me similar results. My comfortable distance for trips is about 250 miles or 400km per day, especially for longer trips as I don't want to ride fatigued. You have some very good informative observations on this video. Looking forward to more. Cheers Chris!

I don’t have a MPG calculator on my 2016 RTL, but we pretty consistently average 35 MPG. I was kinda disappointed in the mileage, as my last big bike was a 2014 Harley Ultraglide Classic Limited, and we would average 50 mpg. Had a MotoGuzzi Eldorado some years back and averaged 55mpg with that one. Also had a Goldwing, but it only got around 35 MPG as well. The Spyder is heavy so I guess that the MPG is probable as good as it can be, given the technology that it has and load it caries. I am surprised that Bombardier hasn’t improved on this, however.

I haven't had a Spyder speedo or odor be accurate yet. My 22 indicates 80mph, the GPS reads 77. If you consider the odor runs up 3 more miles in that hour than actually traveled, you'll never be able to really calculate real MPG. My clock has never kept the time either. Can-Am has, and always have had, very inaccurate displays. All said though, it's a comfortable machine for long trips, and does well at eating miles.
