I cannot believe that I watched the entire video and came away like I was riding the train with you guys as well because now I am exhausted. Great experience though
Oh Boy Oh Boy , what an epic ride. Reminds of my time as a little tacker riding a "red rattler" train from Melbourne to Brisbane with the boy cubs, sleeping on the floor and on wooden bench seats. Glad you survived relatively unscathed and in your usual fine spirits. Love watching your vlogs !!! Keep it up. Rob G.
We did the Hanoi to Da Nang leg of that journey the first time. On a return trip, we flew from Hanoi to Saigon. It was less than AUD100 🙂 Kudos to you guys for doing the whole journey by train 😀
You should definitely travel to the mekong delta, phu quoc island, con dao island and dalat also while u are in the south. These places are great, i can ensure that.
The train is great if your taking days and many stops… but 36 hours on a direct train instead of $34 for a plane ticket… is not my idea of a “good time”… but you still kept your good attitude so that’s great.
likewise. we did 3 internal flights last trip. Cheapest was $28 Can Tho to Danang. Most expensive $50 Hanoi to Sagain, all with 15kg luggage included. But, I am a pedantic planner, so all booked well in advance. Not sure what prices you pay if wing it and try to get tickets day or so before
@@SD-rl3pf I’ve traveled Southeast Asia for decades… always just “wing it” and buy tickets or even hotels at the last minute. Works fine until it doesn’t… like holidays, high season etc… but those are times I avoid… wouldn’t want to try and buy a last minute ticket over Chinese New Year for example.
@@Creees 15kg free checked luggage with Vietjet. We paid $28 with 15kg luggage included Can Tho-Danang. And if you have more than 15kg luggage travelling in Asia, you are taking way too much. We were around 10kg each and that included a 1kg tripod
You guys are funny...in a good way. I am not sure I would have taking 32 hr. train ride. But hey the experience is everything and admire your adventurist attitude, love it.
The guy smashing the walker 😂 2:13. Guys I have meant to send you a message for such a long time, tonight was the night the infinite living mind spoke I guess. Do not stop! What you guys are creating here is simply art, YOU BOTH ARE ART! May the wind be in you favor anywhere you chose to explore. May you keep inspiring us all with your bright bright light and love, we can feel it, we can feel it. I'll meet you soon out there! I'll know where you are! N A M A S T E 🌱
I don`t know why you have to go back to Saigon again , unless you have some thing to do in this city that you could not do last time . You can take the plane to flight to any other destinations in the world from Hanoi
G'day Lloyd and Mandy....certainly not envious of your train journey, but certainly impressed that you'd take on the challenge of 32hrs in a 6 x4... Enjoyed your vlog and look forward to the next....cheers Gaz
I did this trip in 2016 in a 4 berth , shared with an American family . The parents were fine but the spoilt little brat of a daughter didn’t stop winging the whole time! Felt like wringing here neck ! Didn’t know about the compartment you guys had . Cheers Simon
were you on a tight time schedule? So many great options to stop on way and break up trip for a couple of days. Ninh Binh, Dong Hoi & Hue all well & truly worth at least a 2 night stop
Wow, I can imagine that train ride is just so long! Loved you guys are travel nomads too, I travel often but mostly with work, and still thought I might also share a good travel carry-on bag you can consider on your future travels. It's the Bento Bag from Nomad Lane. It's very functional and a good carry-on on travels ❤🥰
Guys, you should read the book "Around the World in 80 Trains" by Monisha Rajesh. She travels nearly 70k kilometers by train and she's also taking this train. Great book I can really recommend. Love watching your videos. Keep on travelling and editing :-)
Sh****tttt ....... You guys have it made. This train ride used to take 80 hours (you read it right, 80 F-ING HOURS) and there was no VIP nor any cabin at all. Sitting the whole 80 F-ing hours. All kidding aside, I love the fact that you sacrificed yourself to show us what NOT to do :). Welcome to my country, keep up the good work and I can't wait to see what you're gonna do next. Enjoy your stay.
I was surprised you guys chose the option for a 36 hour train trip vs flying...but thanks for doing it for those of us whom are curious. It was very informative and interesting.
So I did hear right? I did think you said you could fly for the same price but preferred the train. Would be curious to hear about why. I appreciate the train would be interesting but isn't it a lot of "wasted" time if flights are same price?
That train reminds me of the thousand of jailed journalists in vietnam now such as Tran Huynh Duy Thuc , Pham Chi Dung , Nguyen Tuong Thuy , Pham Chi Thanh , Can Thi Theu , Le Dinh Luong , Truong Minh Duc , Nguyen Trung Ton , Pham Van Troi , Hoang Duc Binh , Tran Anh Kim , Pham Van Diep and the new green environmentalists Nguy Thi Khanh.
Hope you’ll stay in Vietnam long enough to build a massive audience base. There’re so many places each with a unique characteristic in scenery, people and foods.
@@LloydandMandy Lloyd and Mandy: please visit a nightlife popular bar in the beach city Vũng Tàu, a 2h drive from Saigon. Everything in this bar including the shape of the building is about Johny Depp’s Pirates of the Caribbean. The bar is facing the ocean and features daily live band and singers playing American rock music. The name of the bar in Vietnamese is Ngọc Trai Đen, or Black Pearl Bar Vũng Tàu, in English. Also instead of taking a bus, you can take a popular and faster option by high speed ferry from Saigon harbor to Vung Tau beach city for another unique water scenic experience. Please look this up (GreenlinesDP Fast Ferry). I know you’ll love the experience. In Vung Tau, the dock of this express ferry is only about couple km from the Black Pearl Bar and on the same scenic ocean cliffside road.
Omg … may I ask were you restricted by time in vietnam 🇻🇳? I did this trip from Hanoi to Hue by train but NOT all at once.. I can recommend to any of your subscriber’s if time permits is stop at each city to explore. I stayed as long or as short at each city and depending on the experience was when I went to the train station and head for the next city. So amazing let me tell ya 😊🙏🏻🫢👏🏻✌🏻 Hanoi, Vinh , Ha Tin, Dong Hoi, Dong Ha, Hue, Da Nang . I paid for an air conditioned car and it was comfortable and so much to see from the windows too! I understand the stages I took was in my opinion a complete adventure of real vietnam.. but time was on my side and Not the same for everyone right.. keep flogging and editing and stay safe enjoy 😊😊👏🏻👏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🦘✌🏻
@@benedicthampus4964 I’ve never booked in advance with any booking agent. They charge a premium ( pro tip) 🫢😊 You can buy a ticket directly from the train station Amy time the office is open very flexible! This way your not restricted and as o said if you want to stay in a city you can.
When I take long train trips, I like to pack a decent about of food and drinks. I heard the sleeper buses are hit and miss and people tend to have sticky fingers while you´re asleep.
Interesting vlog guys 🥰 While I'd love to do an overnight train trip in Vietnam (Ive done one in China and loved it!) I'm not sure if want to do 32 hours 😲😲😲
There is a 35 hour train for that route, but my Family of 5 (kids will be 25, 21, & 15) will be doing this exact same trip in June in one of those 6 bed berths...WISH US LUCK! LOL We will be flying back to Hanoi after 5 days though.
Sai Gon is a vibrant city renowned for tasty local food. Come here, I think you should try Pho, which price is 100 dollars. Its name is Anan Saigon. You must know that Pho in the North and South is a vast difference. I hope you try this dish !!!!!!
18:33 they are those who didn't pay for the private suite but wanted to check if any of them are unoccupied so they can come and use it randomly before they are told to leave
Trains in Vietnam are not currently the choice of local people, and the railway management company has been losing money for decades, so the trains are very bad and are mostly used for transporting goods.
The train is perfect way of travelling but you need stop on different location. For the nonstop Hanoi-HCM a flight is recommendable and much better choice.
Looks horrendous but well done to you both, an experience that’ll stay with you forever…I look forward to the upcoming videos, you’re both great, but Lloyd give Mandy a hug and kiss occasionally , she deserves it….take care both of you…
Hi, great adventure from Ha Noi to Saigon via train 🙂 - for next trip book flight with Vietjet 1:40 hours for 61,50€. 1996 in February I travel from Ha Noi to Da Nang via bus and flight to Saigon - best way to see and smell Vietnam 🙂 with the culture of Vietnam and see the differences between north and south!!!!
Vietnam National Assembly discussed building a North-South Express Train nearly two decades ago. Stopped there because of financial problems. Now they are revisiting this stuff. Yeah, the common choice is flying, but you will not have an awesome video like this. I am pleased that you chose the VIP room. The best experience you could have on that train. And I know that there is a 24-hour train. why did you not choose it? FYI, the train can be faster but the rail width is not standard today. It's too narrow and increasing the speed makes it unsafe. The railways in VN were built at the beginning of the 20th century by the French. Thus, slow train for now.

So glad I stayed to the end to see Lloyd & Mandy at their "Not best Self" with the sticky feet!! RU-vid gold right there! Was great to see the train journey and see the mental state change once the novelty wore off. Brilliant video team. Loved it!!!
We did the train bong son. binh dinh to sigon, just to ticket a box, tracks are far from smooth, and max speed was 80kph on gps, cant imagine doing 32hrs, not like it's the India pacific lol
Traveling long distances in Vietnam by train is a big mistake, trains are only suitable for the distance of about 6 hours back. For locals, 24 hours on the train is also an extremely tiring thing. :))
Planes are so cheap in Vietnam. I went from Hanoi to Danang for $11Aud (about $29 after taxes and fees). Don't think I would bother with the train unless it was for the experience
