Today we dive into our first Society bottling. This one all ex bourbon, 6 ex bourbon casks to be exact. Coming in at 47.9% abv, distilled in 2001, bottled 2002, and one of only 1,488 bottles. Join us on Patreon @ / topshelfwhisky
I believe that Kensington Wine Market in Calgary is the designated Springbank Society rep through the local SB distributor. Jeremy did do a quick mention of the procedure a couple years ago on the review of the SB 8 year sherry cask. Some of the US commentors on the post said that they could not get bottles because they could not be shipped to the US despite that they were members. Not sure if that issue still exists. The people who live in Alberta get the best access to SB distillery bottles, although they complain about the difficulty these days. 🙂
this longrow somehow remind me Talisker, by its peppery. and i agree this is educational bottle, you can understand how they blending their longrow 18/21, to giving depth and backbone by adding sherry or wine cask
The trick to getting society bottling’s is having a friend in the UK or a country that Springbank ships to. On a different note I’m curious if you guys will try to make it to the Campbletown malts festival in 2028 for Springbank’s 200th anniversary? I personally think that they’re going to release some epic bottles for the festival.
I can honestly say I've never had anything bad from Springbank. The Longrow Red 11 Tawny Port is my absolute favorite Longrow and I have quite a few different ones.
Mike and I have been buying a lot less stuff lately. We both have a lot of stuff on our plate, way more mike with a kid coming! But even with work we're both seeing some changes. Bottom line, 2024 and 2025 might not be years we keep up with the Jones on new releases. But we'll do our best!
I was gonna snag that at the same time I got the Laddy 18, but I was in need of an aged sherry bomb and snagged a Glendronach 21 instead. Can’t wait for that review. Thought I extended my congratulations to you Mike, but I obviously responded in my head lol
I also found this one a little underwhelming. I love refill bourbon, I really enjoy Longrow, but this one was a delicate dram for me that didn't have enough going on in the glass or any one flavor/smell that really grabbed me. Letting it sit in the bottle for a year or so to see what happens :)
