Here is some good news for anyone who has seen this video. I have just published for 2021 a new much expanded book ‘Marks on Chinese Ceramics. You can read more about it and make a purchase here at my web site www.chinesemarks.com Gerald Davison. I'm pleased to be bale prick the bubble of the silly prices asked for copies of my older books! New one is £60.00 + P & P
this was so incredibly helpful. I just bought an antique Famille rose/Kangxi bowl that was sold as a yongzheng bowl...not that it matters but this was so helpful! thank you so much!
Thank you 🙏 so much for all your informative information. I appreciate it. This helps so much. Please keep making more videos. You are very helpful. :)
Thankyou for all the informative video's you have done. It's like having your own personal antiques dealer advising you on each item. I have learnt a lot.
Nice video . I live in Hawaii and have bought quite a few pieces at thrift stores, and yard sales etc; but don't know how to tell whether they are real or not yet . My father and mother collected antiques and had quite a collection, and told me even if you don't know what you are doing if you do enough research, and keep buying them you will eventually end up buying some . I subed .
thanks enjoyed the video am a beginner and just learning . easy to understand discussion on identification. look forward to future videos. thanks Larry in San Diego
Congratulations Walter on the 1k truly well deserved, you have put a lot of hard work into this channel and along with everything else your doing. Take care.
Walter you hit 1000!!! Congratulations! I have a Chinese vase that was made into an oil lamp and then converted to an electric lamp. I want to take the lamp apart to see the bottom of the vase, but I am afraid of breaking the vase. Anyways, Thanks Walter for your videos, they are so informative. XX ♥
Hi Love, Thank you very much, its thanks to all the support from you all that i have made it to the 1000 i am very grateful, i wouldt risk braking your vase hun, but you will see plenty of examples about, Thank you as always love xxx take care x
Hi. I was wondering if you could recommend a glue/epoxy to reattach the monogrammed sterling silver plate back to the back of a Victorian men’s hairbrush that has detached?? Your assistance would be much appreciated. Cheers!
I have purchased what I believe is an antique white chinese carved biscuit teapot. It has a rain mark on the lid inside an oval ring, but the figures are not clear enough to read. Is there a way to make the figures more visible?
Hi, I think I have a vase from the Qing dynasty from Kangxi. My family just received it from my mothers estate. However item is damaged but still very nice. Would you like to take a look? Thx
Try 'Bookfinder4U' for the Gerald Davison book - the old one is available for £240 odd and the new and revised one for aprox £750. On Amazon they cost thousands!
So for several Years Iv been learning all I can about pretty much anything old, part of history and or vintage and antique items often found at thrift shops yard sales for practically nothing because the majority of people have no idea what value is. Anyway I appreciate your information but I’m still unclear on what Iv got in this piece with I guess a 3 character mark.
Hi, i just discover a chinese porcelain teacop with on top a man in golden tulband, on the botom there are 3 markts, great, nien, (periode) and a sort of 3 (mountains ?) there are, in total 3 markts. it is very interesting, the nien periode was periode without emperor (1912), greets belgium
Thank you for your video Walter. I own a small but beautiful Chinese vase with a gold Chinese character mark on the bottom. I'm a pensioner &can't work out the meaning of the mark, even with your brilliant video; i don't do Facebook, may I email my fotos to you for your advice please? -Kathryn in West Dorset UK
i have a koi fish plate that has 8 letters on the back! it was stapled and has broken again what can I do with this, I don't know how old it is ? should I just throw it? its very faded and hard to read well with my eyes.
I don't understand why this Snow White China Dish has a Chinese Reign mark of 24 karat gold instead of being blue or red. I've searched forever and can't find anything on eBay with the 24-karat gold Reign mark. I wish I knew if it was rare. Anybody out there that have information
The marks are Chinese. If you have it on bronze. Odds are it is an xuande emperor search for that mark on google it should match. That is the most common mark used on metal ware. Doesn’t not mean it is a Ming piece mind as they still use that mark now
Prima děkuji za originální tabulku čínských znaků pokusím se vyčistit co vlastně na porcelánu je napsané dostala jsem ho darem a zajímalo by mě odkud pochází jenom vím že město již neexistuje díky za video 👍🤔
Very helpful I have been trying to find out what my Chinese pot is worth but hours later of searching cannot find the red mark. Driving me crazy. All the other web sites want to charge a fee etc. I have a picture.
I'M GOING CRAZY TRYING FIGURE OUT THESE BLURRY MARKS ON THE BOTTOM OF THIS LARGE WHAT MY FATHER CALLED A "MING VASE" THAT HIS AUNT BROUGHT BACK FROM THE ORIENT YEARS AGO! I WISH I COULD FIND SOMEONE TO READ THEM FOR ME, THERE'S ONLY 3 MARKS OR CHARACTERS AND THEY'RE FADING AWAY OR BLURRING OUT LIKE AN OLD TATTOO IF SOMEONE COULD GET A HOLD OF ME PERHAPS WE COULD SHARE PICTURES OR SOMETHING?
Actually only 0.01‰ piece of the items on market are probably genius. I went across Japan, Europe and US and found the items selling on some dealers shop are none of genius.
Thanks! Great job. For the last few months I have been watching the incredible series of videos on Chinese porcelain at ru-vid.com . I especially like his advice on auction houses and s identifying fakes. Good luck on your adventures in this interesting niche in antique porcelain. By the way, I agreed with your comment on touching and examining these pieces in person. Having collected antique art pottery from the U. S. for many years, I have learned that this is sometimes the ONLY way you can identify the authenticity of a good piece. Especially if there may be damage.
Ah good lad but now we are all bidding against you lol . I got a xangi bowl in a parcel the other bowls were smashed in the post nevermind it's worth more than the others put together !!
Hi Walter, Check for the book on abebooks.co.uk, available from Somerset Books (Glastonbury, United Kingdom) for appr. £ 302.85 Good luck. Thanks for your excelent expalnation of Chinese Reign marks.
