That era disappeared slowly and steadily until the smoking ban indoors 2004 finished it off. It did not do the planet Earth any harm at all. Now we are all too bloody healthy and we have over populated and some... LOL's Cigarettes are more efficient at controlling humans damage to the environment than all the wind farms and solar panels put together. Capstan full strength must be the most efficient cigarette against man made global warming. Sad but true.
"The health inspector checks that the temperature has been maintained...." yeah as he drops cigarette ashes all over what hes inspecting for "health". Love how the German cop saluted too
Back then you were free once you were out of the yard, I remember meeting a couple of English blokes in La Jonquera, at the French/Spanish border who'd been jailed for a couple of days by the Guardia Civil after having gotten into a fight with a couple of Germans. They still had to deliver their load in Southern Spain but did not have a clue if they'd still have a job once they returned home, so we had a couple of beers while waiting for customs declarations. Nobody ever touched their truck while they were held, you did not mess with the Spanish authorities back then !
Just noticed that at 2:09, the Mk1 Austin 1100 Countryman the man drives off to work in turns into a Mk2 model when he arrives! The Mk2 also has reflective number plates instead of black and silver ones, and has thin wood veneer strips on the side.
Times have changed when I did fridges and exposed meat I wasn’t allowed to smoke anywhere near the meat and I was expected to wear mask rubber gloves and a white overall. The overall was a pain in the neck to put on and take off. Things where simpler back in the day. Lovely video and all the best to ya.
Looks like a tiny part of Western Austria through the, alps before Switzerland on the route they took if you follow it down from wurzburg where they stopped at the Hotel
Ah yes, boxes of _Pheasants_ .. Shipped by road all across continental Europe, passing many important strategic cold war checkpoints. Just like all these trucks at 7:51. I'm sure they also only contain, other, _agricultural_ products. It's a good thing there was a state managed documentary to reinforce the message that it's only pheasants in these trucks and the enemy need not worry too much of their contents.
Jim Hudsons wife packing his case for the cameras i bet, my wife refused to pack my bag, she said it wasn't really work that i did driving sat on my arse.
What they need is a pheasant plucker as in the rhyme: I'm not the pheasant plucker I'm just the pheasant plucker's son I'm only plucking pheasants 'Til the pheasant plucker comes.
TIR worked fine. The EEC was/is a horrible monster unleashed on unsuspecting and duped Europeans. I was in Europe in the 1960s - it was a lovely place - ruined now by the European Economic Community.
