The true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the U.S.-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.
"Look at me. All my friends are dead now" Impressive how the snipers synchronized their shots to execute them all together. And on the sea where it's bouncing too
snipers don't ai at the head, they aim at the torso, so, even from the side, it could hit the shoulder, lower body, upper body, and those could all be instant kills easily
As a Somali, this movie was incredible. Seeing the pirates communicate in somali during the abduction was funny Bc of the aggressive humor somali has🤣. 10/10 for me Forsure
@@Isiauwuehrifi probably the whole army, they have whole factions of pirates run by militias that fight eachother for power, the civil war never truly ended
@@047Kenny Yup ever since several ship companies decided to put Private Security on their vessels, ship boardings became difficult to the pirates. They avoid vessels that shoot back.
I'm Somali, and let me tell you some story After the civil war in Somalia the goverment were collapsed leaving the country unorotected from the foreign countries and local gangsters the Somalis suffered hunger, wars, constant terrorism bombings in the capital city Mogadishu. The foreign countries were fishing the long coast of Somalia without permission because the absence of the Somalia govt, the foreigners ships overharvested the fish leaving the local fishers nothing, to solve this proplem and drive the foreign ships away from the coast the local Somalis decided to shoot every ship on the coast or kidnap them. Thats how what you call Somali pirates started Edit: sorry i didn't complete the whole story After driving fishing ships away from the Somali coast dome of the local fishers caught a Iraninan ship and charged millions of dollars to release it snd ofcourse they got the money and released the ship. The other fishers saw how much money they could make just catching and kidnapping ships, that is the time when pirates came and emerged they and started to kidnapp every ship whether its fishing ships or cargo ships every thing that moves on the their sea. Ofcourse it was bad thing
No offense, but I don't think he's trying to justify it at all. I think he's just explaining how it all started out, like the origins of a group or practice.
He was the only one brains in that group. But yeah desperation can lead to drastic actions. We sit high and morally mighty in our comfy seats, but don't have an inkling of how difficult their lives are and what they feel when they hear of our luxury.
Far from it in reality. If he would of followed the safer route and not try to get to the destination quicker, they never would have had issues with pirates. That was bad in itself, but then he was an idiot when he got himself kidnapped when the ordeal should of been over. The real life people involved all agree the captain took unnecessary risk and it led to the pirates boarding the ship.
@@SaltyChip I think it is because he thought that the pirates will not attack him then he thought maybe they will not catch up to him then he thought the navy will be their in time. All because he was trying to reach destination fast cause maybe to get some action 😜 if you know you know!
Calling in the Navy Seals and a freaking aircraft carrier was easier than just keeping a few battle rifles on board the ship to repel their boarding, eh?
One might think that, yeah, but there's laws that sort of prevent that. However, the US and some other countries/organizations do let their ships have armed private security aboard, so that's something. The only thing is that I don't know when the laws were amended to allow this.
He wasn’t researching it was the email he received warning him to stay off the coast of Somali by at least 600 nautical miles he was less than 250 nautical miles off the Somalian coast whenever the pirates boarded the ship that’s pretty reckless if you ask me
What gets me is that their initial distress call was not taken seriously, i mean how often do US ship captians call for help because of pirates, and they filed it out like a complaint ready to be viewed. Its not like the navy gets prank calls
Theres a successful pirate stock exchange in Somalia now. You invest in the companies by giving money or weapons and earn a nice return whenever they complete the mission. They drive around with fancy cars, building houses/mansions and wearing the latest fashion trends etc lol. Its also helped struggling families change their fortunes around and allow them to live a comfortable life, something they probably wouldnt ever achieved otherwise.
In 2017 the ship Aris 13 which my father was sailing as the chief engineer was hijacked by somali piaretes. Fortunately they were freed in three days. It's a more thrilling story than this one. Shoud make a another film named chief kalu 😅
They Born In time of civil war whole Thier life (30 year) what do you expect and only your protection is your gun, It's like USA but without government ... You think you will be the some.
In true story, they used the helicopters air current to stop the lifeboat from travelling. Also, the pirates have the captain as a hostage so I even if a submarine was there I wouldnt care.
Can a sniper even hit a target from one vessel to another? Both are moving up and down from the waves, wouldnt it be near impossible to line up a clean shot?
I forgot who it was, but a youtuber on here who was a former convict, I believe "Larry Lawton" (smth like that) went to prison with Muse, or met him at a prison he was transferred to
The actual incident didn't involve an execution , The main pirate surrendered because of sea sickness and the rest still wanted to make it to Somalia. The 4 pirates were really stupid that at one time they slept tight with captain phillips in the boat. They even brought an unarmed pistol nd played brain games whith the hostage. Some even said they would take the captain for a movie once they reach somalia. And in the end not three, but multiple shots were fired to prevent anyother pirate from popping up. The same Seal Team 6 were the ones who even took down Bin Laden. Even this movie is good, its way different and manipulated for viewers experience.
I had an Uber driver who told me he was a pirate gone straight now. All drivers talk crap, I asked him if he had an eye patch, wooden leg and parrot, I think that went over his head. He gave me 1 star, I didn’t tip him!
I still dont get it why these crews dont carry guns..n with all the jets spraying out and if they even attempt to climb on to the tall ship, they can be shot from above.. maybe i dont get it.
