Tim O'Brien has such a fine voice. Absolutely pitch-perfect. Would that I could sing half as well.

Saw him and Darrell Scott at a FREE concert near Milan a few years ago. We stayed in a B and B and next morning at breakfast a familiar voice asked me how the breakfast worked. It was Tim. I told him but was so awestruck could not even say great concert. Big regret.

One of my absolute favorite bluegrass songs. A bluegrass radio show here in CT uses it as its closing song.

I got to do sound for Tim a few weeks ago. I have no doubt that I've done my best gig ever! Someone said on another post taht these guys were school boys compared to Jimi Hendrix. I beg their pardon, maybe the other way around. Yeah, I know maybe apples to oranges.....but to me there's not another better vocalist on the planet!!!

Down where that Southern rail Crosses the Yellow Dog, I met an old auctioneer, I heard his monologue He said "I got horses, I got mules, I got sheep; Some I want to sell boy And some I want to keep. I got a tale or two That I need to tell; Sit down beside me And rest yourself a spell. I've lived a good long life And I've no regrets; Let me tell my story Before I forget. Chorus:- Look down that lonesome road Before you travel on; I hate to say goodbye So I'll just say so long. See the way that bay horse rides, Seems just like a sin, That horse is broke in two He lost his coupling pin Yonder there's aman a-coming He broke his poor heart son; His head is empty, His bread is just not done. Look at that old mule there, The one with one life left; He's half blind but There's work in that mule yet. He carries a heavy load boy, I know him well, They never did give that mule No back up bell Chorus:- They say whisky slows you down, It clouds up your thinking; As long as they make whisky I say just keep on drinking. A long as life keeps hitting hard A drink will help you take it; As long as we drink whisky They'll keep on making it. Some folks have to slow down If theyare maimed or lame, Other folks keep moving, They keep rocking on the same. I walk like an old fox And shake my big old tail Even though there's a hell hound He's a-sniffing on my tail. Chorus:- Just kick that old dog And make sure that he's dead, Some man needs another dog, Don't you hang your little head. There's gonna be a lot more living After I am gone; I'll leave a little something for you To get your share done.

Douglas is Superb (of course, they All are). He doesn't 'overplay', and the licks are always in good taste. And what else is there to say about Tim O'Brian that hasn't already been said - He's truly in a class by himself, Just nice stuff!

Only one regret, the day they took the "MY GIRL'S WAITIN FOR ME" version that was on the early Trans session. It was his best utube version of that tune with all the Trans musicians. The other live concert versions of his don't come close.

Anybody know what kind of guitar Russ Barenburg is playing? Looks familiar, but I can't place it. He played a '76 HD-28 for years, then a Gibson slope-shouldered something, plays a D-18 sometimes. I've never seen this one.

wow you sound so ignorant...I like a lot of other mandolin players better then Thile but you can't deny his talent...who cares if it's not traditional bluegrass...so are you saying mandolin players are only allowed to play traditional bluegrass...give me a break...Grisman Bush Marshall and countless others that don't fit into your tight box of what bluegrass should be have all contributed so much and influenced so many...open your mind and appreciate good music period whatever category it may be
