I always marvel at how chilled Tim looks. Like he is actually a mandolin/fiddle/banjo trapped in a man's body and it just plays and sings itself with no effort on his part. Love the man.
My son and I are going to see Darrell in Novato, CA in a month or so, and it will be the highlight of my year, a gift to myself and him. Great music is one of the very greatest pleasures that God gives us. Good for the body and soul. May they both live to be 100.
Darrell Scott is one of the most underrated singer songwriters period. A fellow friend and guitar player turned me on to a EP wirh 5 songs recorded at Eddie"s Attic as a solo gig.. Thats been 15 or more years ago. Ive been playing for 40 some years and his style is amazing and hard to imitate. He's playing a baritone guitar and after using some of his tunings I understand why.. Growing up in SC in the tobacco region makes his lyrics hit home....Thanks
Yikes, these guys are good! Creative, soulful, improvisational and heartfelt. That's a very rare combination. In a just world, based on musical merit, they would be huge stars. Ah well, we can enjoy them as they are.
Its odd i feel the same... I love all types of music and music`s been my job for 40 years. to my ears n eyes these two guys are at the top of their field. Its sad if people cant relate to something they dislike it. Oh well, this is an amazing clip captures all i love about live music.
2:50 is probably the best example of Darrell Scott's improvisational genius. He both sings AND plays the line differently than any other recording. As a musician, I can tell he's doing that live, in the moment. That kind of skills is so rare.... Thanks for uploading the video!
Yeah, rare and wonderful. Richard Thompson is famous for switching up chords spontaneously and picking them out differently, too. You have to see him and Darrell Scott live to believe it.
You have to be a musician to really recognize just how talented this guy is. He is a true improvisational genius. Tim O'Briens harmony vocals are dead on and his playing is great as well.
I had the great privilege of seeing Darrell at the Hopmunk Tavern in Novato, CA about a month ago. He is, if it's possible, getting better. What it do.
I dream of waking up one morning to discover I can play guitar like Darrell Scott and mandolin like Tim O'Brien, *sigh* but it aint ever gonna happen...So I'll just enjoy the real thing instead
Love this. Its wonderful to hear how the person who wrote the song hears it and its beautiful. I LOVE the chicks version (one of their all time greatest recordings IMO, and this is every bit as great). Such amazing storytelling it just keeps unfolding and I keep wanting more. What a talent!
Tim O'Brien! Your tenor voice makes someone wanna hit you in the head it's so dang great! ALWAYS LOVED YOU and your VOICE! And don't worry, I wouldn't hit ya in the head for anything!! You and Darrell and WONDERFUL together!! Keep it up!
Is the video to this whole show anywhere? There's quite a bit of content out there with these two, and it's all good, but not only is the quality tops here, but they're really on fire.
Does anyone know who took this video or where it was shot? Having the rest of this show at this level of A/V quality would be priceless to their cache of work together.
A friend of mine asked me if I wanted to go to a country concert with he and his girlfriend. At first, I said yes. I had never heard of Sam Hunt before. I looked up his music. After listening to about 3 songs, I called my friend and backed out. I'm not paying to hear that garbage.
