The Jayco Eagle HT is advertised as half ton towable. HT = half ton. Crazy for a trailer with this much length and profile!!!

when we bought our rv we shortened the cabinets in the bed room cut the frame down and flipped it to the side and made it a queen it had a lot more space after that im glad my husband works on rvs though it was some work doing that and making it look nice

I have owned this trailer for a year now, just finished up a 2800 mile trip through Utah/Montana/Wyoming/Arizona. I pull it with a F350 SRW Diesel Tremor. I run an Equilizer 16000lb anti-sway/weight distribution hitch. No problems with sway even with heavy mountain crosswinds. Felt comfortable traveling 70mph on most interstates/ highways. I did hit the CAT scales when fully loaded with propane/fresh water tank/dual batteries/fully loaded truck and bed. I had 10000lbs on the trailer axles and 1800lbs on the rear truck axle. Subtracting the truck cargo, I had 1200lbs of tongue weight from the trailer. I still had an additional 1000lb of payload left. I have a cargo/bike rack off the back receiver hitch as well so I am pretty long, about 42'. Definitely do not tow this with a half ton! Run a good anti-sway setup and you will be fine. A dually is not necessary, although it would tow it even easier. It has been a great trailer for us with 3 kids as most of the Fifth Wheels seem oriented towards retired couples and not families with 3 kids and 2 dogs.

I like that the tv is out further than the oven to help prevent splatter on the front of it. Our 2016 Heritage Glen has the same bunkhouse. I like the shower versus our tub/shower but otherwise this is like ours. We love our outdoor kitchen. Every RV needs this.

I like having our bunkhouse (Grey Wolf 26DBH) where they get in from the end of the bunks, that way my 6 year old that sleeps like a tornado doesn't fall off the side. Great looking trailer though! With a 3500lb payload my new Chevy 2500 would pull it fine. Would love to have the king bed up front. Auto level would be great to have too! I'm sure the inside space is great with the camp side slide out for the kitchen, but some smaller campsites that would eat up some of your space.

We looked at buying this exact model this year. But when it came in there were so many things broken on it we would have had to wait months to actually take it home. Loved the outdoor kitchen area for sure. But one thing you missed on the tour was that the "closet" shared with the bath and main bedroom is a spot for washer and dryer combo.

I delivered one of those in the spring, with my 3500HD ram dually. We always use load levelling bars, but not sway control. It's the first time I wished I had sway control with my dually. That trailer is a beast.

Great Review! I actually own this model in the 2021 year with the Modern Farmhouse interior (which has a better flow/contrast in my opinion), my family and I love it. I do tow it with a 3/4 ton pickup and totally agree that you would never want to tow this with a half ton pickup. The 3/4 ton does the job fine as long as you are not in a rush and have some experience towing, as this does come close the max for my truck. I do have plans to upgrade to a dually in the future, but one thing at a time. One additional storage place is behind the TV as it pulls out on a arm, which opens up to a space as wide as the cabinet and has a shelf as well. Love the channel and keep up the awesome reviews!

I like this Jayco. We have the 2020 Jayco 32 ROKL. It has the front sliding entry door and lots of big windows..the center kitchen and a queen sofa bed with theater seating in the rear slide. The Furrion tv is huge with a DVD player and a radio system inside a cabinet with storage on both sides and the fireplace underneath. We love our fireplace! However, we don’t care for the air conditioning system in this model. There is only one air unit and it cools fantastic but when it is running it is so loud we can’t hear the tv!! Our last camper air conditioning unit was very quiet. I guess I just thought they were all quiet since that camper was a 1999 Prowler. You’d think 23 years later they would all be quiet!! Our camper has a HUGE pantry next to the kitchen and a nice sized bath and shower next to the full sized QUEEN bedroom which my husband loves because he is 6’4”. However, we are short on closet space and drawer space in the kitchen. But I think that if I went this length in a camper I would just go with a fifth wheel to get the extra ceiling space.

I know a family of four tall people who considered RVs and decided against because even the very long ones were designed for shorter people in the sleeping arrangements. Four bed areas for very tall people was the problem. Still, the ones I’ve seen are truly amazing. This one is great! Amazing! 👍👍

Jayco for being a mainstream brand leans a little harder into quality over other mainstream brands. This is a heavy duty decently built product. I wouldn’t dare to say Arctic Fox or ORV quality but much better than grand design or cougar etc

By me in NJ this was crazy expensive and really long. I ended up going with a cougar 5th wheel for about 8k less. This is a nice unit though and I was really thinking about going with it even being 8k more but the overall length was the deciding factor.

I know everyone has their preferences, (traditional, no step up, can use the entire truck bed, lower trailer height, etc.) but wow trailers have gotten big since my family last camped when I was 15 (about 8 years ago). I’m partial to 5th wheels, that’s what we always owned. What’s the purpose of having a trailer that’s nearly 40ft long? I see more negatives then positives like, harder to turn and maneuver, more complicated tongue weight situation. Like you said, I agree, a 3/4 ton or 1 ton is mandatory for this setup.

We had a 2013 coachman freedom express liberty edition camper. These 2 campers had a lot in common but there are some very nice upgrades on your Jayco especially the auto leveling system. After having our coachman for only 5 years the insurance company totaled it because it was literally falling apart. The frame behind the rear axle started bending downwards as it wasn’t supporting the weight sufficiently. This also caused a couple leaks and the outdoor kitchen door wouldn’t close properly it was too tight since the frame was bending. I’m not in any way trying to compare the 2 campers but I feel a lot of the newer campers are trying to give the consumer what they want which is lots of slides and low weight. This CAN create a dangerous situation and not having enough support for the weight. Our coachman was right at 8000 and the frame was obviously not strong enough for the weight.

I have been waiting several years now for you to do this exact model, looking to purchase one later this year. They color it in the farmhouse decor also, kitchen will be colored like bathroom, better than those peanut butter colors imo. Jayco did blue on bathroom cabinets to theme it with their mascot, the Jayco Blue Bird. A 12v fridge is an option, actually saving $2k over that hideous double door model. Also nice that they have dual 15k btu a/c, instead of some other brands that are offering one 13.5k and one 15k units. It had drop frame the previous 2 years, no clue why they went back in '22.

I love bumper pull campers it what I’m use to. But if I had a heavy duty truck not a 1/4 ton I’d definitely buy a fifth wheel. I have no trouble towing big bumper pull campers, my last camper was around this size. Is it because I have the 3.0 diesel instead of a gas pickup? My truck is a Ram by the way.

I dont see alot of content out there that compares some simple and not so simple backing maneuvers of these long travel trailers vs 5th wheels of similar lengths. I have to say having a 2020 silverado gas (l8t) 2500hd crew long bed pulling a 2022 alpha wolf 30dbh-l (38 total feet) that the biggest issue I have in standard koas and storage area is the total turn radius is huge and the camp grounds are tight cornered. Backing up takes quite a few feet before the whole trailer starts to turn. Doesnt help that the chevy doesn’t have the greatest turn radius standalone. Im finding i need to be selective when finding gas stations as well. My prior travel trailers a ‘19 coachmen clipper 21bh (25.5 feet) and ‘21 pioneer bh250 (29’ 9.5”) I wasnt feeling the same turning radius pains. Food for thought to those considering going long.

I love the Jayco Eagle travel trailers but am I crazy or is this interior not up to their usual quality standards? Maybe this is a lower specc'd version with some cheaper options to keep the price down? In fact it must be because I've seen Eagles priced into the six figures before so I know this isn't a top-of-the-line model. I don't mean to come across as a snob, I'm just used to seeing these models with every feature imaginable tossed in and a price to match. I think it's nice to have models within every price range warrantied for full-time usage and built well enough to actually be capable of such use so it's a good thing. I'm just surprised at some of what I saw, plastic sinks and wrapped countertops are not what I've seen in these on lots but if it keeps the price down that's a good thing. Also the cabinet quality is a bit rougher than their usual stuff. Or maybe I'm just flat out crazy and wrong and I'm looking at it more critically than I should be? Yeah, maybe I'm just crazy.

Hello thanks for the educative and entertaining video. You have a nice soft voice that has a soothing effect on me. May l point out something that is becoming over use and un necessary on my part, televisions. Yes it's a real pandemic they're everywhere in any size inside outside. I don't understand why so many people are so addicted on them. Why would young and old remain in their RVs watching TV when they could be outside on a sandy beach or hiking on forest trails? The other night l watched this video about parents reviewing a class A and they were so happy when they saw that each bunk had a 10 inch TV in the foot area in fact they were relieved because it was the deal breaker. I mean instead of inquiring about the thickness of the walls or is the basement heated right away they are looking for places to hang TV get outside everyone and smell the Roses and taste the wind. Sorry for being so long but does anyone feel like me?#

Is this a 2022 or 2023 model? At 0:15 (And again at 0:44) notice how much those front jacks extend below the frame of the trailer? Those are in the fully retracted position. I can't believe Jayco still hasn't addressed that issue. Those jacks are just begging to get ripped off the first time that trailer goes over a set of RR tracks or in/out of a steep driveway.

I gotta say I am really annoyed by the name of this Jayco series. There is not a single trailer in the Jayco HT (half ton) line-up that can be safely towed by even the most capable half-ton truck. May even be illegal based on GCWR. I agree with you JD, one ton minimum. But it is a very nice unit.
@fewworddotrick
@fewworddotrick 2 года назад
People should be aware most importantly that pulling this trailer with a half ton is probably far more dangerous than pulling this trailer in the fifth wheel version, with a half ton. I would never pull a travel trailer like that with a half ton. They're made like cars. All that leverage 4' behind the truck axle on a trailer that weighs more than twice as much as the truck is a recipe for disaster.
@robertrapp5953
@robertrapp5953 2 года назад
As someone who has a slightly smaller trailer (36ft, 10500lbs) with a max tow half ton twice I whole heartily agree. These act as sails and push the 5000lb truck all over the place. Upgraded to a gas dually...much happier. The biggest challenge is parking these. You lose about 5 feet compared to a 5th wheel due to bed placement. So a 43ft fifth wheel is about equivalent length wise to this huge guy in the video.

I’m also not understanding why they put that counter/ cabinets unit next to the theater seating. You said this is a camper for a large family and it only has 1 bathroom 🤣😂. I love your videos but this isn’t for me! Thanks though, for showing all the different types of campers. If they made this in a 5th wheel, it would be sold. Only 39 ft long and has a bunk room? 5th wheel manufacturers, take notice!

Not impressed at all. With a unit this length there should be a bedroom slide out. Without a slide out the master bedroom is a huge disappointment. Counters are subpar material. Microwave, while looking full size actually is not that big. like the auto leveling and the spot to put a generator. Overall, too many issues to make me spend my hard earned money on it.

The EcoBoost Max toe package with the added max payload package taking you over 2, 500lb of payload can handle this trailer with ease many f-150s without the max payload package can also handle this trailers ease as well. JD's giving fake news again. That's what he likes to do

Lol Fake News... anyways, please email me with an example of an available F150 with 2,500lb capacity. Please show the door sticker. I've specifically had a conversation with Ford Engineers about this, so I'm patiently awaiting your fake news.

@@BigTruckBigRV I got your payload sticker picture, let me know what email will send it to. Also I never said anything about finding the truck for sale. I can tell you it's very simple to go on Ford's website and configure the truck to your liking and order it, it's also a great way to avoid dealer markup. Furthermore, 2,500 lb is excessive in terms of payload to be able to pull that trailer. Really 2200 is more than enough. I get that you always air on the side of caution and I guess I tend to agree with that because a lot of people don't have great towing experience. Personally, I wouldn't bet deny it towing that trailer with my previous F-150 that had 1800 lb of payload. I do understand not all experiences the same, I can tell you however, and this is not debatable that 50 excavator that you just bought. I can tell you that my F-150 with its 1800 lb of payload pulled that exact same excavator far better than my 2005 3/4 ton powerstroke diesel, in accelerated better is stopped better, and because of experience, I was able to properly distribute the load on the trailer as not to put too much over pin weight. On the F-150, I was probably about 2,000 lb of pin weight in your book. That's probably an unforgivable sin, but my book it handled the load far safer than my Old 3/4 ton. Sometimes I think you assume everybody's going to have a brand new truck when you say 3/4 ton or one ton, I really feel you should go pull some of your heavy trailers with some older diesels or even gasoline 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks and compare them to a new F-150. I would really like to see how you feel about it then. Because a new F-150 has bigger brakes than any diesel prior to 2008.

I watch a lot of your videos but the way you exaggerate the tongue weight on this unit… and then vastly underestimate the capacity of most 3/4 ton trucks in the beginning of this video is ridiculous.
@stevewhitsett7744
@stevewhitsett7744 2 года назад
Pretty much every gas powered 3/4 ton is going to have a cargo capacity of around 3000 pounds… most of the diesels will have right around 2000. Add that to the fact that a 10% tongue weight on a 11000 pound gvwr will be around 1100 pounds… leaving room for 800-900 pounds of gear and people in the truck just to get to the diesel limits… this is a far cry from your “only 30% of 3/4 tons”
@BigTruckBigRV
@BigTruckBigRV 2 года назад
I'm not sure I understand. This RV has a dry tongue weight around 1,200lbs (I've actually scaled this Floorplan in the past). Add batteries and cargo, it would be closer to 1,500lbs loaded (or around 12-15% of the GTW). Add 600lbs of people to the truck (typical familyof 4), 120lb Hitch, 100lbs of cargo in the bed and you're around 820lbs of Truck payload weight. 820+1,500= 2,320lbs. Most modern diesel 3/4ton 4x4 crew cab mid trim level pickups have a payload capacity between 1800-2200lbs max. I've shown this multiple times. Most similarly setup 1/2ton trucks have between a 1,300-1500lb capacity. Now, prove me wrong.
@stevewhitsett7744

@@BigTruckBigRV ok… my 2019 Ram Big Horn 4x4 6.4 gasser has a payload of 3043 pounds. There are a lot of those trucks on the road. Even the cummins in that trim will have right around 2000 pounds. Those trucks will easily pull this RV… your 30% number is ridiculous.

@@BigTruckBigRV how about I refer you to about 2:40 in the video where you say only about 30 percent of 3/4 ton trucks will have the capacity to tow this. THAT is the statement I have been taking issue with … so quoting your statement earlier is irrelevant. We both agree this is not a half ton rig (despite its HT nomenclature. And yes I already knew that you had said that some “well equipped” 3/4s could handle it. But your later implication that only about 30 percent fall into this category is silly. There are far more Big Horn and Tradesman on the road than Laramie and above … same goes for Ford and Chevy … this doesn’t even get into the argument regarding the somewhat arbitrary 10,000 pound GVWR limit that most manufacturers put on 3/4s for licensing purposes. The bottom line is that I disagree with you about the number of 3/4s that can tow this . All that being said … I’m not towing. a 38 foot travel trailer behind any truck …. That’s why I bought a fiver.

No, putting plugs up under the cabinets is to keep a cleaner look, it's just that simple, not everyone will plug in something on the hutch, so no plugs in the wall keeps it clean. I thought you knew about RV's and how and why they build them....guess not
