This is the Look Marmotte grandfondo Alpes 2017. My goal was to ride 20 min faster than last year (6h49min 2016) and that would get me in the top 100 of the Men overall category.
With changing weather forecasts It turned out to be ok on sunday morning. It was quite cold an humid but at least it would stay dry. On the Telegraph (2nd climb) I was 20min faster than last year so on a very good schedule. In the descent It was very cold and I started to get cramps and this slowed me down on the whole climb up galibier. On the descent of Galibier the Cramps got a lot worse and my legs totally blocked untill I got in the valley where the temperatures where higher.
Not untill passing the first few corners of Alpe d'Huez the cramps started to fade away. On the last climb my friend Joris paced me up all the way and did a great job getting my to the finish.
My time was 6H38min. Twelve minutes faster than last year, but the total distance was more with more elevation. (over the top of galibier instead of the tunnel in 2016, this is about 10 minutes more) So I managed to beat my time with more than 20 minutes when corrected.
Total placing number 143 out of 7500 participants!
