Queen Victoria wore only dark purple and other dark colours and heavy fabrics as a teenager. Black was reserved to only mourning people, so she wore other edgy dark colours when girls her age were supposed to wear light and happy colours and light fabrics! So she was a goth, in a way 😂

Hell is real, repent from sinning confess your sins and ask God to forgive you, I know He will if you’re sincere. Anyone who thinks the Name of Lord Jesus Christ is a joke, boldly mocks and scorns Him or takes pleasure in people who do is in for a big unpleasant surprise on judgement day IF they don’t repent and follow Lord Jesus Christ. Hell is very hot, people please repent! In the mighty name of Lord Jesus Christ, Amen 🙏💪✝️💜❤️✝️! Idolatry such as, Islam, Catholicism, Sangomaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Santa Clausism, Confucianism, New Age, Science, Evolution, halloweenism, Harry Potterism, Politics, Donald Trumpism, Easter Bunnyism and other religions/faiths that are outside Biblical Christianity lead to hell! Don’t believe them, believe the Almighty God the Father of Lord Jesus Christ, who begot Him. Our Creator, The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob is mighty, He doesn’t need a woman to beget a son, He is God. I choose to put my faith in a God who can do anything and everything, a God who has unlimited and infinite power to beget! So, it’s time to confess that Lord Jesus Christ is the Lord and to believe that He died and rose from the grave after three days and you shall be saved if you only obey Him by praying, worshipping, praising, reading the Bible and living holy and righteously according to the Bible. You have to endure until the end, carry your cross daily and build your relationship with God by following Lord Jesus daily until the end. You must never renounce your faith in The Lord Jesus Christ, there’s hell awaiting those who reject/deny Lord Jesus Christ and those who continue living sinfully, even the Christians who don’t want to repent will face the same fate, so please repent beloved people, in Lord Jesus Christ’s mighty and precious Name, Amen.

Well Victorian Goth is a thing.
@iamthekateastrophe4146
@iamthekateastrophe4146 2 года назад
Janus Nightshade That’s primarily because Queen Victoria also spent a significant amount of her reign in mourning - most notably her husband. Her youthful tendency towards dark colours and then later usage of mourning colours did establish a tone of darker colours predominating in fashion through the Victorian period. It’s part of the reason for the notable contrast in the Edwardian period in which light flowing garments became increasingly common for day wear

This video is really neat but my one critique is that the timeline/history DEEPLY needed to acknowledge punk (especially in the late 70s) and goth in the 80s! So fundamental to all of this.

as someone who is very involved in alternative culture and fashion this video felt very very surface level and inauthentic. I’d rather people just stick to their own lanes rather than trying to cover everything when they clearly don’t know what they’re talking about. Like imagine this girl trying doing an accurate, informed or credible read on the development of streetwear/rap fashion aesthetics. It would not work, so why does she feel emboldened to try and cover this? Im not trying to hate or anything, all fashion is a reflection of who we are and this isn’t who she is and that’s okay, but she should stick to what she knows

Your videos have helped me so much. I’ve been battling disordered eating since I was a young teen. Your videos have helped me disconnect from the idea that I need to look a certain way to dress how I want. I always wondering why I didn’t look like other beautiful people while wearing the clothes they were wearing. Now I know that I am just as gorgeous as those people, I just wasn’t dressing with my kibbe type in mind; nor was I dressing for the effect I wanted. Thank you so much! Keep on kicking ass!

Oh man as a soft dramatic with edgy style I was really hoping you’d have something to say on the topic but my type was the only type not really addressed in this video. But I get why, there are very few good examples. I’ve spent my whole life trying to figure out how to look edgy but still respect my lines and you’re right, it’s not easy and it’s not the way the other types do it. I think the secret is in a lot of ways our type on its own quite edgy or intimidating. I used to try to mix in a lot of gamine punk styles and it was very unflattering for whole entire looks, but now I find that if I lean harder into the soft dramatic type I look more intimidating. I would say the distressed thing is also correct. Perfectly following our lines but in darker colors makes us look very put together, diva-esqe, and maybe even unapproachable which is on its own intimidating. Adding in a distressed element (like messy makeup or ripped tights) to that really sends it into edgy territory. There are still some gamine elements in there, like fishnet shirts under my dresses or chokers, but just a very little bit and overall I find that the more soft dramatic I dress, the edgier it is as long as style wise I bring in a lot of punk reminiscent elements, like black and leather and fishnet.

It seems so difficult to find soft dramatic content in general. The outfit examples generally nice but are either from the 1950's or for older women, and I'm in college, I want to dress like I'm in college. However, I'm absolutely all for dressing like Taylor Momsen, so I guess I'll go with that.

love the way you describe how hard it is for a soft dramatic to look 'edgier'. To try looking more goth or punk or rock, those styles still require a woman to look cute in her darkness I think. Dramatics, FN and SD send a different vibe, a much more masculine kind of power or edge. How could we look super cute and smallish when we're basically taller than half of the guys around us? Us SD already ARE intimidating in our strong diva essence. :D My tips on how to look edgy and still embrace the tall curvy woman vibes I send to the world: Makeup & hair * dyed my hair black * my hair is long and sleek, so I made it an advantage and they look like a long black curtain that contrasts with my chunky cheeks and lips and bold eyes * either a natural makeup with emphasized brows and 2 layers of mascara or * a thick black winged eyeliner AND smokey eyes at once to emphasize that contrast even more * sometimes a deep red lip too Clothing 'rules' * not just pure black clothes but also dark forest green, ruby red, dark aubergine, deep navy, charcoal grey, and for contrast bright red and pure white, neutral tan (the color of your skin) * use color blocks - combine neutrals with red, or combine neutrals with ONE of the 'more colorful' colors like deep green, navy, aubergine * materials like leather, cashmere, denim, satin, lace, suede * for prints, a schoolgirl-vibe diamond print or b&w leopard print * lines must be contransting, include both skinny and chunky, hugging the body and a bit of separates Outfits * a little washed-out, charcoal grey oversized metal band t-shirt, tucked into hig waisted skinny jeans, black leather belt with metallic ornamemt buck, black leather boots kind of like Dr. Martens that can be chunky in vertical lines (a platform, not heels) fitting the narrowness of the feet and ankles, a relaxed black leather jacket, cropped below the waist, a kind of rocker style, uneven hem, some fussy details like multiple zippers * matte leggings, very oversized tan croptop, oversized white cropped puffer jacket, dr. Martens and a smaller bun on top of the head, black thin cotton bag with logo/print * off shoulders black long sleeve top, black high waisted tight leather miniskirt, black suede boots that cover calfs or even overknee boots, big heavy at least knee- long charcoal grey smoothly fitting wool coat with fur around the neck and wrists, leather gloves * black fitting tank top, low waisted slightly oversized tan cargo pants in thick cotton cut similarly as mumjeans, chains, Dr. Martens * menswear - black high-waisted jeans or charcoal grey wide leg flowy pants, oversized black jacket with angular shoulder pads and slightly longer hemline, tight fitting white tee with round neckline, white sneakers, gold hoops, a rectangle notebook bag * dark mini turtleneck dress hugging the curves, black harness on top, high booties (overknee or lower ones with sexy stockings that have this 'I am wearing overknee socks' feel) * white long sleeve body with scoop neckline, harness, red A-line diamond print miniskirt, sexy stockings, Dr.Martens, long black&red nails * black&white leopard turtleneck, black high waisted skinny jeans, soft suede black cropped jacket lined with black fur, sharp pointed outline booties, red lipstick * white blouse with a deep heart neckline and long sharp puffed sleeves, charcoal grey ripped skinny jeans, Dr Martens * black lace brallete top, wide leg flowy charcoal grey pants, red lips, wet hair style, long earrings, sharp stilletos, a soft black fur to hug around shoulders, metallic bag Maybe it's just me but I feel super edgy & powerful and yet feminine in this kind of clothing

This is perfect, I love your point about leaning into your type to emphasize it. I noticed your section was the shortest but as a classic I also feel let down. My inner style is much more flamboyant natural but looks horrible on me and so I try to incorporate classic lines and I do get a lot of compliments. But the suggestions here were so, so, so boring. It was about this part I stopped watching. These "edgy" subcultures, as punk, grunge, goth and so forth, were an expression of the opposite and a voice against the obvious promiscuity and superficiality in the music and film industries, and society as a whole. Although outsiders of these cultures would maybe have this type of interpretation, promiscuity is absolutely not included in the description of these subcultures, but political thought, creativity and intelligence -to some degree. These started as an external expression of internal thoughts and feelings, usually as a political protest, but are now copied as an external style by mainstream people without understanding.

This makes complete sense bc I believe I'm a gamine, but I usually dress more masculine, and it gives off the edgy vibe I'm going for. On the flip side, when I dress in more classic apparel, I look very formal without trying. Now I know why! But if I try wearing many accessories, or a lot of makeup, I look a hot mess. I do look great with short hair like you said, and when I grow out my hair, I give off a whimsical hippy look which I'm into lol. Just now learning about this. But I think as we age, and our shapes and weight distribution changes a bit, it's probably more difficult for ppl to figure out what they are.

What we see today as alternative is deeply rooted in goth. In the very late 70s and the early til mid 80s that style was defined through music. Look at what people would wear in the batcave for example. For me though I listen to goth music it was always too rigid. So you’re right, everyone needs to find their own style, that fits their type. I am naturally blonde and have blue/green eyes but my skin tone is warm, nothing cool about me. So, I have to wear gold jewelry, silver washes me out. I exclusively wear black, I tried some colors but it just isn’t me. I think , I only truly knew my own style around 26 honestly and now enjoy fashion. When I was a teenager my body type wasn’t in, so I just felt wrong and uninterested in fashion. Now I need to find out my type.

But I always loved sort of Gamine lines on me (I'm a Soft Natural) and felt drawn to them. I also prefer Flamboyant Natural lines over Soft Natural lines. Maybe I never was off track. I just prefer a different look for myself rather than looking just "pretty". I incorporate Natural lines all the time, and noticed that loose shirts, and more casual clothes don't look sloppy on me either, but I feel "boring" wearing only my own lines. I love adding a little edge to the overall look. I also prefer high necklines and crop tops paired with very high waisted pants. I know how to look chic if I want to, but that's often times not what I really want. Thanks again, I think this was just the missing link I was looking for.

As a soft dramatic, I think I look particularly edgy when I wear for example a boxy, masculine top with a long line on the bottom. In general masculine clothes that make you look broadened in one part of your body, that is contrasted by a more long, (in line with our dramatic line) other item to balance out the boxyness works really well. Due to our softness we often look very feminine, so one item that swallows the frame with harshness makes us look really non-feminine and in turn edgy

as an edgy flamgam myself, i have to say i entirely disagree about it being hard for us to look edgy. i mean, look at Liza Minnelli, Debbie Harry, or Emma Roberts as Madison Montgomery. i think that combining broken lines, some natural silhouettes, and generally details that can be construed as "edgy" is an excellent way to channel the edgy style. also flamboyant gamines can pull off dark and bold eye makeup very easily. the advice you gave to soft gamines applies to flamboyant gamines as well, so i'm a little disappointed that your section on flamboyant gamines felt so limited. further, even looking at the verified flamgams only, there are a lot of women with very strong features that are not at all cutesy or costumey. sure, the look didn't suit Zooey Deschanel very well, but there are absolutely flamboyant gamines who wear the style well. this is a great video overall, don't get me wrong, i just was expecting a little more from the section on my type.

For example: - “youthfully bold and brassy essence” - “Innately, you are Yang in energy (aggressive and dynamic), Yin in youthfulness (fresh).” - “The underlying theme for your appearance is: "Rules were made to be broken!" - “This is the best way for the world to see your totally unique combination of wit, fire, zest, and spunk.”
@m.aj11
@m.aj11 2 года назад
Agreed! FGs are the epitome of effortless edginess, it's in their very essence. She mentions FGs in lace and corsets as looking like wearing costumes: stuff that is anathema for us and that FGs should avoid like a plague anyway. What is edgy if not FGs in their recommended clothes: ankle boots, cuffed boyfriend jeans and tee with a bold print with a dash of our usual bold makeup (be it accentuated eyes or lips) and tousled hair, I ask you!? 🤭🤘💀
@tojadmordownik
@tojadmordownik 2 года назад
Yeah... She lost me at that. FG here and I'm THE EPITOME of "edgy", vampiric, dark and extravagant! Biker jackets & contrasting cute dresses, heavy boots, bold jewellery, messy hair in all colours, dark smokey eyes or black winged eyeliner - how is that not edgy?? Zoe Kravitz, Lily Rose Depp, Gwen Stefani, Lisa Bonnet and other iconic FGs - not edgy? Really? I mean... Bish, please.😏

Okay this was very validating to hear. People say wear fitted tops for romantics etc, but occasionally I like to look more androgynous and edgy. My favorite jacket is a cropped giant 80s/90s style puffy (?) jacket, and I feel really awesome wearing it and tends to get a lot of compliments. It does help my waist by being cropped, but doesn't fit a lot of romantic advice. I never considered that wearing what's opposite can be considered edgy but I totally see it and agree

the body type sections were good and can be helpful but unfortunately the "alternative history" part was inaccurate and lacking .. most of it was dedicated to mainstream things that wouldnt be considered alternative, while not even mentioning punk or subsequent goth which are the most important and influential alternative subcultures. also i would definitely touch on the political and the music aspects of subcultures esp when talking abt punk and goth as they are very importnt and the fashion comes after that. the mainstream nowadays often tries to take inspiration from goth without understanding it or punk that influenced the birth of goth, so i think when talking on such subjects u shouldnt leave out the most vital parts

It was such a fun era with her fashion and reminds me of a lot of what you’re speaking on because it’s complimentary even if it’s sharp or contrasted but there is a fine detail to every body type for sure! I love all the examples and comparisons. Well done and Eva green is stunning.. watching her in penny dreadful or womb or even dark shadows because rarely felt like a character and more elegant on her even Jolie didn’t feel as edgy which I would have loved to see as an example too. I see a set of "rules" or ideas how to look edgy but I don't see it to be connected to body types and also some of looks hint that we don't know much about how body types work. Madonna and Drew Barrymore just look cool without any "contradictions" to their appearance. Julia Garner looks elegant and I don't see any not-from-her-body-type vibes in her looks. Btw I see a lot of sharpness in her face with darker hair maybe even more than with blonde. Anyway I learned that gothic, punky styles still look edgy and 1-2 elements per look rule not to shock people around too much. I liked your photos when you experimented with punk style, the hair look adorable! 😍

I'd say if you want Inso for edgy fashion as a SD, look no further than Elizabeth Gillies!!! (specifically as Jade in Victorious or Gigi in $3x & 4rug$ & Rock & Roll). And I know Christina Hendricks was mentioned (the sole SD mentioned), but there is also pictures of her when she was young in the 90s (she was a goth!) and it actually really worked for her (short hair with bangs, long chunky jewelry, baggy leather jackets borrowing from natural lines) And I think Tyra Banks wore some edgy outfits on the runway that could definitely be inspo too! And also, I'm one of those people who thinks she's a SD rather than an R, but Rihanna is another poster child for edgy SDs too!

Ever since watching this, I've been so much more attuned to TV and movie costuming that deliberately works against an actor's body type for effect! My favorite really extreme example right now might be Courtney Eaton as Lottie in *Yellowjackets* -- I'm pretty sure she's a very ethereal dramatic, and especially in early episodes the wardrobe department does the most incredible job of putting her in these short, boxy ingenue/gamine pieces that make her look so uncomfortably long and spidery it's like she's actively outgrowing her skin. (That fluffy pink sweater with the little skirt she's wearing to that kegger in the pilot! Absolutely 100% wildly outside her color palette, too.)

Your videos are literally the best thing I've found on RU-vid in a long while, thanks a lot! Could you please give some recommendations on how to look more feminine as a dramatic? (Both in terms of face and body). Or dramatics can't be as feminine as, let's say, romantics, by default? Would be infinitely grateful to hear some insights from you! P.s. I look very similar to Amelie Lens, I assume it's a dramatic essence
@sigridj9459
@sigridj9459 2 года назад
I’ve always heard to not fight the dramatic lines- as dressing in a more “traditionally feminine” aka romantic way only highlights the sharpness in your bones by contrast- and probably won’t give the feminine effect you are looking for. By following your dramatic lines and using your color system, you’ll look more harmonious, timeless and feminine.
@AlyonaYoutuLess
@AlyonaYoutuLess 2 года назад
@@sigridj9459 that's a good advice, feminine silhouettes look nice on my body, even though I'm tall and slim, but I've always felt like they don't match with my face, if that makes any sense:D while in straight high waist pants and a blazer i look somehow more gentle and elegant. Anyway I was wondering if there's any way to make myself look "softer" with makeup and clothes, but maybe that's just not an option for dramatics😥

Personally, when I stopped factoring in my actual height, or telling others what my height was, I found I was more consistently typed as a soft natural... I also feel like the Soft Natural body type has the most variety in it? Like, you can get several soft naturals to stand next to one another and no two 'look' the same... not sure if that makes sense, but I hope that helps!
