The part where Hitler waited until the studio was dead quiet to deliver his speech was spot-on to real life; it was one of his oratory techniques in real life. The writers and actor did a brilliant job of making him funny in the comedic moments but absolutely believable and terrifying in the serious parts.
@dividewalker5673
@dividewalker5673 Год назад
Is that really a question you need to ask? I believe the unscripted segments speak volumes about how terrifying a skilled orator with the most abhorrent views imaginable can be. The ending is the part that strikes me the most, the scenes of rioting far-right thugs in the streets, before it simply cuts to Hitler, in the car, with a red light shining over him. And just one, singular, chilling line. *"I can work with this."*
@user-nz8rv8ft5q
@user-nz8rv8ft5q Год назад
@@dividewalker5673 yes comrade, the director knew something about politics and the current state: Hitler is the spirit, not the person. So, problem is not in far-right, but in the conditions where They are created: how You consider yourself free if You are one hair close to get kicked out from your house or become unemployed because you are not so profitable anymore. But, the joke about leftists was good: western leftists are mostly a living comedy
@user-nz8rv8ft5q
@user-nz8rv8ft5q Год назад
@George Gershwin No, He is great and a great man. West makes a monster, but personally He is a great person. The problem starts with uncomfortable way of thinking that this person is the representative of the system build from somewhat close to current system and this is terrifying: we are VERY CLOSE. Seriously, look at the news and notice the joke about democracy: One nation, One war, (You are here) One leader of the free world.

It both saddens and amazes me. This film came out in 2015, yet so many concepts and themes ring true to this day. Hitler didn't succeed by being a monster; he wasn't a true dictator. He didn't have to seize power in the end. Afterall - like the ending of the film set says. If he was a monster, and he was so open of his plans, of his goals; then what does that make of those who put him into power, who let him retain it? The people are to blame... But what's more shocking is that even the ending scene has the public still involved. You can see it, the blurred faces, the differing reactions. These were all genuine reactions that people gave. The salutes. The waves and nods. Even the fingerpointing by that old dude. Truly, it wouldn't matter if Hitler were to rise from the grave once more - He'd continue right as he left, because even some public opinion, a decent chunk as shown by the unscripted interactions... Still very much supports, deep down, his philosphy. Anyone with a similar level of charisma or otherwise could verily do the same. He was an icon, a figurehead that was so easy to blame, but even now? It comes down to the people. And hey. Like the man said. He's apart of all of us.

There are many instances where the popular opinion is not the right one, an example could be Hitler who killed millions of innocent Jews and native Germans. You could also use the cruxifixction of Christ, everyone wanted to kill him when he fulfilled all the prophecies and only helped people. You can twist evil to make it seem good, yes there are some issues he talked about that he was right about, but the truth is that he himself is just as evil as the people he is trying to take down, he wants total control in the hands of one imperfect man and it led to catastrophe

But instead, because he's a great actor, he doubles down and says, "Yes/right, work camps," looking him dead in the eyes without blinking like the real Hitler probably would have, astonished by the "cunning" of this individual to say such a thing. I remember seeing this movie back when it came out for no particular reason, not having any high hopes for it to be any good. Boy was I wrong. There's a point during the end of the second act where the movie stops being a goofy comedy and just moves over into something more frightening. When you see the real reactions of the people interacting with him, and the truth of how a man like Adolf Hitler probably rose to power- not through terror but through adoration. I'm not particularly fond of the "movie ending" that (literally) tied up the plot with the main character per'se, but the ending in the car with the unscripted citizens of Germany heiling was bonechilling. Really striking meta-narrative. It almost felt like the movie took on its own life and went someplace really dark the directors wasn't expecting.

No one does the Pledge of Allegiance in schools anymore, so they don't even feel that when you place your hand on your heart while saying it. It's all motions with no knowledge or feeling behind it. Why they don't do it this in schools anymore is baffling considering the government is behind the school funding.

This dude has to be the best Hitler actor I've ever seen. He does a great job without going overboard or playing him with more anger and no charisma like most actors do. Apparently the bits where he interacts with regular people are completely unscripted. Makes his performance even more impressive, you can't improv like that without having a good understanding of the source material as it were. 33:10 for example, was so good I kind of think that scene must have been scripted. 50:55 was amazing too, he even got the hair shake.

However, those tribalism is rarely relevant in most political topics. Those tribalism relevant in politics is almost always bad. For instance, Putin invading Ukraine for the benefit of Russia, despite the huge cost to well being of humanity, is the result of such tribalism. Hiter invaded everybody, despite the huge cost to humanity, is the result of such tribalism. Almost all wars are fueled by tribalism. Countries prioritize individual profit over climate change that affect all countries, is mostly due to tribalism. Brexit is mostly motivated by tribalism. Nearly all preference of zero-sum competition over positive-sum cooperation is due to tribalism. Selfishness is understandable... but it's mostly not a virtue. Selfishness on a social group level (tribalism) is understandable... but it's mostly not a virtue, similar to regular selfishness. You can argue selfishness sometimes has utility (similar to tribalism). However, to controversial topics, selfishness (like tribalism) is almost always a bad thing.

The Grandmother's scene is the most powerful moment that breaks the comedic tone of the film. It portrays pure trauma without any humour, making a strong impact. Her line, "And back then, people were laughing at first, too," is a fourth-wall break that targets the audience, evoking guilt and reflection. The director carefully crafted this scene to highlight the unintended consequences of portraying Hitler in a comedic light, reminding us to approach historical subjects with sensitivity and understanding. It serves as a poignant message that laughter and amusement can sometimes trivialize the gravity of historical events. The director outdid himself. Edit: I just realized how dark the implications that the grandmother has severe dementia... yet somehow through strong sheer force of the fragile brain's processing power... She remembers it all. Edit 2: I just realized, she stood up the more her brain kept piecing each memory 2 in 2, bit by bit, she was all by herself... a living time capsule... THE ATTENTION TO DETAIL!

!!SPOILER ALERT!! I think that out of all historic and comedic movies, this is if not one of the best, on of them. There is a lot of interesting things such as, for exemple, the fact that everyone take it in a humoristic way, but what he says is actually very serious! He never lied, only changed small details every time: if you're againdt the idea before he really does crimes, you are wrong. The fact that the movie is in german, and that I don't speak german makes it more authentic. Originality 9/10 Message 10/10 Quality 7/10 Acting 8/10 References¹ 9/10 Total: 8.6/10 ¹: References to other films, books, jokes that are related to stuff that was really made (Like his book). Results: Would absolutely recommend. It's funny, realistic, like when everyone learn that he killed the dog we can feel the stress. Emojie code: 🤓🤯😨😂😎🤔🤔😲

This is the third time I have watched this. The script is perfect...very tight. The cinematography/art design is brilliant! This is a brutal selfie of our potential and one of the best demonstrations of how a fathomless rich culture as the Germans were seduced into hell. We are now at that very same precipice. This is a true work of art and every actor deserves high praise for being there...not slipping into camp.

What do you mean by rich, if i understand it correctly Germany was still under large economic strain after ww1 and even further when the great depression hit. Maybe you didn't mean money. When people are at their weakest they are so much easier to influence, someone promising true change is extremely tempting to all of us, but if we are well fed and safe we are more likely to question. Atleast that is my overall analysis.
@SmokeyJoe876

@@dimajo3057 Good post! Exactly. Germany was screwed in those days. And then, someone arrived on scene , "promised better days and a chicken in every pot." And delivered. But as usual, no one bothered to read the 'end user license agreement'. And so we get to have movies like this!

We use the term "monster" to separate ourselves from people in our society that have committed terrible crimes. Labelling them a "monster" it allows us to view them as not human and suggest that only a monster is capable of doing terrible things. The dirty secret is the so-called monsters are not monsters. They are humans just like us. Perhaps our species as a whole is a monster because every one of us is capable of doing the worst possible things. This film forces viewers to see Hitler for what he was. A human being who was put in a position of power by other human beings. He was born flawed just like we all are.

@@BaguetteGamingOfficial He was a human who was given power by other humans. He abused that power. There have been countless people who have harmed themselves and others because of their religious or radical beliefs. Calling Hitler, a monster is as ridiculous as the claim that guns kill people. We are all one mental snap away from becoming monsters. Man has been killing himself since the dawn of time. We are a violent species and always will be because at our core we are animals. Hitler is just one example of how terrible our species can be.

No so called '' monster'' ever admited to being one. If we are to generalize anyone with a supposed radical attitude seperate from us as a ''monster'', we neglect the fact that they are people who see a different way of doing things with the aim of achieving the same objective as everybody - a better world.
