I am definitely planning on getting my wips in order. But I also have to stop taking on new projects for a while because it's starting to create too much mental clutter no matter how organized I try to be. The other problem I run into is if things come up, which does happen in life, I end up feeling frustrated and I feel like I'm drowning. I guess everyone works at their own pace and has to allow flexibility, and if they are feeling overwhelmed, organization helps, but you might need to start rethinking how much you're trying to do.

In 2023 I didn't get as much quilting done as I wanted to...with a 1 and 5 year old at home, I sew at night when I'm not exhausted. I also fell out of love with a project and couldn't get my mojo back. It didn't help that my sewing room is by our entryway and became a dumping ground for the family's clutter. In 2024 I will organize my space 😅 and plan smaller projects in between bigger ones so that I have more finishes and don't get burned out on what I'm working on.

You are so organised, that doesn’t come naturally to me. What is the glimpse of a quilt I can see to your far right, with the stars in each block. It looks really nice. 😊

I only do one quilt project at a time. I do not start a new one until I finish quilting , binding, adding a sleeve and label. I would feel too much pressure if I had multiple designs going at the same time. And the thought of having to machine quilt so many myself at the same time would no longer make it fun. I enjoy the process from start to finish.😁☺

This comment is a great example of why I feel that quilting reaches such diverse individuals, each with their own way of navigating life. I too have learned that for me, I'm happiest when I'm working on one quilt at a time. I think it's because I have a very strong ability to focus on what I'm doing. And if I stop before it's finished, my happiness dissipates quickly. To clarify, I'm meaning to not stop working on that one quilt for the complete duration from start to finish. And I love to watch and learn how others tackle problems and situations as some nuggets are often learned. But best of all, it's good for my soul to keep experiencing the depth and breath of others. It adds so much to my life like caring and gratitude. I appreciated reading your comment.

I still have to do the letters to Santa too and I haven’t started my 2023 designer mystery and now I need to plan on a strawberry lemonade quilt too. I’m still waiting on an Old glory kit and my Camille kits and fabrics. Time goes by so fast. 😩

I made my list of works in progress last week, and I discovered that while I am keeping up with making blocks and assembling quilt top centers, I am not doing well at doing those final tasks before quilting-attaching borders and preparing the backing (piecing, adding the quilt label). So, I guess that’s my quilting goal for 2024: see projects through to the last step before starting something new. Thanks for all the time and care you put into your content. I hope you all have a happy new year!

What are some words of encouragement or warning you have for aspiring content creators? Especially as a young working mom. You've inspired me to start my own RU-vid channel featuring sew-with-me style videos. I feel there isn't enough out there like that, like there is in gardenering and make-up.

But then thinking about.....I can not let go these projects. It is always the same.😅 Anyway....happy new year to you and your family. Looking forward to all the new things you will show in 2024. Terrific installment! I'm so excited by all that's on the horizon! I'm very much a monogamous crafter. I plan quite a few projects ahead of time, but I rarely have more than one WIP in the same genre--and it's almost always, for example, one lace and one sewing project, or one hat and one bag. (My knitting and sewing spaces are not near each other, so it's a truly separate activity.) That way, it gets all of my attention and love. I'd gone down the UFO rabbit hole early into my crafting life and knew it wasn't a good place for me mentally or time-wise. That said, I'm seriously considering the BOTM fun. 😃 One block won't distract me much, and I have plenty of precuts that would negate much fussing. Not to mention, it has always looked like so much fun. As I've finally got my new crafting space together and better organized (not to mention a much needed update to my sewing machine) this past year, I'm actually excited for some new inspirations. Last year was all about sewing patterns I somehow have never done before, like a Double Irish Chain (really! never in 30 years!) and a Christmas themed quilt (again--really). It was also about getting some finished but unquilted tops bordered, off to the quilter then bound (a process I truly enjoy). I got a LOT done within my crazy schedule after getting set up in the new room. This year is all about finishing the guest house's coffee-themed quilt I started last week (easy but step intensive; plus, a size increase necessitated more natural muslin, which is en route), and then some serious stash-busting. I have a few gift quilts planned, some home decor (table runners, &c) and a couple of charity throws, as well as another quilt for my grown-but-visits-from-university-son's bed, and all I have to do is decide on a pattern then grab the stash. I also have a lightweight, king-sized star medallion quilt for my bed on the list. I've had fabric set aside for that for a while now but have been waiting for the queue to clear. Lots to do, but all good stuff. I also want to figure out some more efficient storage, now that I'm settled into my craft room and can see what works well and what needs to be adjusted. I've been revisiting your blog entries for ideas. Back to the point: I adore your quarterly planning idea. I'm a perennial marathon runner, so I live by regular goals and plans. Your brand of organization is right up my alley. I can easily apply the quarterly idea to my OAAT philosophy and this year's wish list. Thank you!

In 2024 I first have to finish binding 4 quilts. Next is to finish my Barn Star Sampler quilt. Have the small Star blocks to piece, then quilt assembly. What I’m really excited for is the Syrawberry Lemonade quilts I plan to make. There are several I have on my list, and I want to finalize my list today.

Loved hearing all your parts for 2024, you’re a ambitious lady. I decided to play with my organize my scraps, using my long strips that were less than 2 1/2 inches in width and sewed them together. Well honestly I’m not liking the looks of the strings, so from now on, I think saving them is pointless. I really like following a pattern that has been thought out and proofed, that’s me. So with that thank you, Sherri and Chelsei for all that you do and share with us, very appreciated. 👍❤️😊

Oh my goodness! I have to write down dates and descriptions so I can keep up. 🤭 I still have to do BOM December. eek! Since this is my 2nd year quilting/sewing I don't prepare anything. I just want to finish my WIP. And get organized and clean up my sewing spaces. I guess that is getting prepared for the New Year! Since we didn't have family over, we went to them I didn't have much decorated. Less is more! So, my take down will be very fast and easy. My goal is to do a quilt from a paper pattern from my collection of patterns. 😋 I feel like pulling out my hair just thinking about everything. Will someone please hold my hand. Have a VERY SAFE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL.!🍾 🥳🍾

I have 2 things to finish this year. Then have to sell my fabrics. Granddaughter will be having skull surgery and can you believe insurance doesn't pay for helmet. All the charities just give you a list of charities to go to. It's a big circle. I ran into the same when I had cancer. Anyway. That'll be it for me this year. I'll sew here and there but won't really have much to actually sew with. It's o.k. It's for a good cause. But I'm still going to keep up with seeing you and your news.

My machine is going in for service tomorrow and a well deserved break 😂. It’s had a workout these past several months! While it’s in the shop I’ll be planning my sewing projects for 2024, reorganizing and cleaning my craft room and hopefully working on non Quilty projects. If I absolutely MUST sew I have a backup jr machine for emergency sewing😂. I am looking forward to the new fabric becoming available, it’s so pretty.
