They do handle well for their size and wheelbase!

Superb current 45 market review with a nice spread of price / condition examples. I think personally they've just passed the 'bottom of price curve' point as indicated by some sellers asking the price they should be worth for the good examples now. Finally they're not all being thrown into the same bucket , as cheap runabouts that folk buy , run 2/3 years on a shoestring & then chuck away. I've seen it many times with certain models of cars I've bought/run/sold in the past e.g FIAT X1/9's , Mercedes S-classes and Jaguar XJ's. We're at the point now with 45's where you can still get incredible bargains of well maintained, decent mileage, low owner, very good cars. But those chances are lessening, as other buyers catch on to simply how good a car you're getting for so little money. That also means the rougher cars are dwindling away & leaving a higher percentage of good cars, which eventually will push the price of them all up around what the occasional excellent one is being offered at now. It won't happen that quickly but the sands are shifting, the Rover 45's time in the sun is coming my friend

Superb point and there are signs this is happening for 45s now. There are quite a few forces at play in the market and people are looking at reliable cars that are nice to drive and DIY friendly to look after. The 45 has always been this way but now less are around without major issues people have possibly realised they either need to look after their current 45 or if looking - getting one quick!

Great video Andrew 😄 I'm Purchasing a 45 soon! But the 2.0 Diesel L series. There Is some great bargains on Facebook market place. It's always hard to value a car such as Pauls press release one. Higher miles but not for its age - Yes and needs some TLC (BUT) Its is the second one in existence! So lets hope it sells and goes to a Home which will spend some Money on it & keep it on the road. 🚙🤗

I'm hoping someone does buying the ex-demo car. Always difficult to value but people aren't biting and with the issues I've noted it's not attractive to anyone so far. That L series will serve you well!

Having scanned through the Mot histories, most of these cars are suffering from varying cases of tin worm. There was one there that failed on structural corrosion last year, then passed a day later. A couple quick patches slapped over rust.. Not surprisingly, the car with the cleanest mot history, and lack of corrosion advisories, was the most expensive one.

That is very interesting! 45s do go on the footwell areas badly.

@usuallyfixingtinkering I think if you can find a good one, they're very underrated cars. There's definately the potential to get a lot of car for your money. Sadly, many of them still on the road are at that stage where they're requiring a lot of metal work to put right. Not beyond saving, but lacking people with the enthusiasm to do the saving 🤔 I guess that's a big flipside to them being cheap; you'll probably need to spend more than what you paid for the car doing the work, particularly where welding is concerned.

Correct om all accounts hence why you have to be prepared to spend on them now

Wow 500 taken off the road in the last year!! I think a lot of the cheaper ones are from either people who don't know what they've got or are hiding possible faults, but the good quality ones are now starting to creep up to what they should be worth. The engine mount on the 1.8 is different to the 1.4 and 1.6 which both have the same smaller mount 👍
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering 8 месяцев назад
That's really strange I've seen the 1.8 mounts on 1.6 versions? This was a MK2 so maybe they standardised the 1.8 mount for all k-series?.Yes 500 is stark but I have noticed better ones coming through. I reckon the population of 45s will be under a 1000 in a year but then you've got the best examples in that bunch which will survive.

@@usuallyfixingtinkering I've had a look and you are correct, even the 1.4 facelift has the larger engine mount? Some people say the facelift was not as good quality as the earlier cars but that's definitely one improvement having a stronger engine mount 😂
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering 7 месяцев назад
Absolutely! They obviously standardised it to save costs of two mounts!

the crappiest ad with "need space, sell for my parents" is exactly the kind i wanna read. i bought mine with 77000 miles (still plenty left for a L series), big new Varta, brand new JVC modern autoradio and interior was spotless and nice exterior. dude was selling for his uncle etc... started at 1000 pounds, got it for 125 quids with second keyfob, anti theft screw, original Rover manual etc...2.0 IDT Parkline (beige leather), Royal Blue, 2004 pre-facelift (with latest rims). I just had what needed to be fixed done and i went to spain a few times with it.

I had an X reg 45 in 2009, automatic with a decent trim level. Part ex'd it for a new Renault Twingo in 2010, kind of regret it now lol.

They do fetch more the earlier you get but very marginal.

I was looking at possibly buying a Rover 45. They seem to suffer from rotton floors , sills and rear arches on some. Needless to say, i won't be buying one.
@usuallyfixingtinkering
@usuallyfixingtinkering 6 месяцев назад
Rover 45s rarely rust on the arches and in terms of the floor it's only the same patches they go. Very minor and probably more resistant to rust than most cars that age. Fords of the same age in comparison are pretty awful for rust.
