Flower Farming In Scotland Zone 8b.
We are back to snowy, icy weather and its impossible to get any jobs done outside. So I thought it would be nice to go back through 2022 and look at the garden and cut flowers I grew. What grew well and what didn't and how the growing season went in the garden last year. I hope you enjoy looking back at all the lovely flowers with me and reminding ourselves of what is to come.

Your colour combinations Caroline are gorgeous 😲🤩 every single bouquet 👌🏻🫶🏻 stunning 😁
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Thank you so much. I love being able to grow a wide variety of flowers so I can use lots of different ones in bouquets. No two are ever the same! It’s amazing how many flowers work as cut flowers for bouquets.

Hi Katherine, you did your granny proud. Everything in your garden looked gorgeous, sunflowers & sweet peas are my favourite and my new rose wall is exciting to see this year. My cosmos went berserk this year lol. Happy New Year 🙂

Stunning!!!! Had my morning coffee while watching this clip. Great way to start my morning. Mid summer here in NZ, so you've inspired me to get outside and make up more bouquets 💐
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Thanks for watching. It will be lovely just now in New Zealand. I am quite envious as it has been a cold winter so far here 🥶. Enjoy your summer flower season x

Fantastic, thank you for such a detailed recap. A real pleasure to see it all together and looking forward to the return of spring. You put together such beautiful bouquets. Seeing how much more difficult your conditions are to SE England I'm filled with anticipation. This year I shall do the "cool flowers" method and things in the ground in late summer for the following year. Always looking forward to the future in the garden (and allotment
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Thank you and I hope you have a great year growing in the garden and allotment. The nights are starting to get a little lighter now so it won’t be long before seed sowing can start again! X

Lovely recap Catherine. You did your gran proud and nice to see your your cutie pie doggie and beautiful surroundings. Thank you.
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Thank you Susan. Granny loved her garden on the Orkney Islands and I was always amazed at what lovely fruit, vegetables and flowers she was able to grow there. It was a lovely way to say goodbye to pick flowers for her from my garden. Hattie has been loving playing in the snow this weekend, she’s a right cutie but does have a habit of barking at my customers when they come to the garden gate stall! x

What a fantastically informative video. I am also in Scotland (Stirling area) and I am going to attempt my first cut flower garden to make arrangements for myself and family. I have been bitten by the gardening bug ( I just need to keep those pesky slugs at bay). Thank you for taking the time to share your experiences, I definitely feel like I have a lot more info going in to it now. 😊
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Hello, thanks so much for watching. I am so glad you enjoyed the video. That’s great you are going to start your own cutting garden. It is very addictive growing flowers when you get started! Slugs are a problem for us in Scotland aren’t they with all the wet weather we have. Going out with a torch at night time and finding them helps and beer traps work too. Also watering in the morning rather than at night so soils not soaking when it’s the time they all start to come out. Happy growing 🌱 🌸 x

Hi, I love watching ur videos, such beautiful flowers and arrangements and it’s great to follow someone who also grows in Scotland. Can I please ask how u grow ur beautiful Irises? Are these bulbs u plant every year or are they perennial?
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Thank you so much. I grow Iris’s from bulbs each year in the autumn. Buying some new ones each autumn guarantees me good stems for bouquets and florists. But I do keep the previous ones in the ground too as some but not all come back as perennials just to enjoy in the garden.

Hi Catherine, I love all your videos; i've been binge watching again I've germinated my sweetpeas using the method you showed a year ago (germinating on a paper towel in a sealed box). They germinated beautifully. QUESTION: I am going to plant them today in root trainers, my questions are: How deep do I sow them? Do I cover them with a propagator lid? Should i keep them warmish until they are a bit bigger? It's too cold to put them in a a coldframe or cold greenhouse. Looking forward to hearing from you. Bye the way, I am so pleased that i took your advice in Autumn and kept my perennial plug plants in a frost free cabin, they certainly would not have survived in the cold greenhouse (-7 in Milton Keynes). Thanks Lynda
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Hello Lynda, thanks so much for following along with my videos 😊 That’s great your sweet peas have germinated well on the paper towels. When you transfer the them to the root trainers or pots they do not need to be buried deeply. Just enough soil to cover the seed but have a bit of the new shoot coming up through the soil. They won’t need a propagator lid on now they have germinated. Where to put them is a bit tricky at the moment with the weather so it depends what’s happening with you. If it is several degrees below freezing I wouldn’t put them straight out in a cold frame of greenhouse but wait until the weather was above freezing again and the out them out. Sweet peas do like to grow on in cold though as heat will make them very leggy. Anywhere it is unheated but frost free and in good light is the best place for them just now.

@@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm Thank you so much Catherine. It was -7 here for the last 2 nights, so I'll put them in the cabin, which is frost free. Hope the temperatures in Scotland aren't as bed as early December. Looking forward to your next video.

Your bouquets are just beautiful.Thank you for this video. Would you mind telling me the name of the flower at 31.53? thank you
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Thank you so much. Unfortunately 31.53 is the end point of the video. Is the flower you liked at a different time point in the video so I can go back and have a look for you?

Absolutely gorgeous bouquets. When you say a garden stall is this where you put flowers out in a roadside stand? Do you have a stand that is permanent or is it movable?
@cloudberryflowers-flowerfarm
Hello Martha, thank you 😊 Yes my garden gate stall is something my husband made for me that is permanent just in the entrance of our driveway at the house. It doesn’t get a huge amount of passing trade as we live in a quiet area of town but over the years I have had regulars that have got to know about it and pop by for their flowers. I did a video on my stall which shows you a bit more about it here Selling Flowers | Flower Stall | Growing Flowers To Sell | Flower Jewellery | Cut Flower Garden ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HUKV7YubmV4.html
