@@andrewwoodward6560 Late to the party here, but "seems to have gotten unaffordable" ... There is no "seems" to it. They have become outpriced. And to be honest, and I know this is subjective, but the newer sleds are really not very good looking in my eyes. But then, I tend to lean toward the "old school" anyway. I would happily take a 70's or 80's vintage Enticer or Exciter any day. I used to ride an old 1974-ish? Yamaha SL338 frame with a 433 engine on it. (Yes, the one with the engine up on the tunnel between your legs.) The thing ripped! Too bad I scrapped it after I threw the track back in 1989. If I had only known back then.... Anyways, sorry for hijacking your comment. Just wanted to put this out there. I truly miss snowmobiling more than I am willing to admit.

The Yammy Enticer was the last popular sled I can remember from the days when we got enough natural snow to cover the trails in southern Ontario. The SnoScoot still has traction now in the 21st century it's a machine that deserves a renaissance. I never saw one in real-time back-in-the-day The Yammy SRV was the competitor to the Skidoo Blizzard, both sleds looked futuristic at the time albeit they were way outside the price range of the majority of young dudes I knew including myself. Great show SnowTrax TV.

This is a great video. Snowmobilers are at the Apex of nostalgia. 😉 I was born in 1980 with my cousin shortly behind me. When we were old enough to stop falling asleep on the back of sleds we were handed a pair of 78 moto ski mirages. Boy I tell you what, we literally wore the skis off those sleds. They were cold as hell to ride with metal unheated flippers but it didn’t stop us.

Yes absolutely! And still making memories. Unfortunately I’ve been sick for past two weeks and haven’t been able to get up north. I have 2018 skidoo 850 blizzard now. It’s a little better than the moto ski. Also got a cheap used IQ shift carb model I’ve been wrenching on for a secondary sled. Keep up the good work. It is very much appreciated.

Same here, if you go heavier on the clutch fly weights, one tooth more on the top chaincase sprocket, and increase the distance between the primary and secondary clutches ( but not so much that the sled starts to go just idling), you will get 30 miles per gallon at about 40 mph and I've been clocked at 78 mph.

@Aiden Moody yessir. It’s a great sled to learn on. I recently bought a new sled but it’s great to learn to ride on something that doesn’t have the power to kill you and there reliable asf. I used to get it to go properly 50mph and when it was new properly 70 my uncle said but not now days it’s lost so much compression over time. Anyway enjoy your enticer!!

Grew up on Yamaha, but in the mountains there just too damn heavy. If I was a Midwest trail rider, I would still be riding Yamaha. The last band new Yamaha for me was my 2000 Mtn Max, then heavily modified M7 162, to 14 Pro 163, to 16 Axys 163. I'd go back to Yamaha in a second, if they started making 2 strokes again, in the new Mtn Cat chassis.

My very first sled was a 1980 enticed 300, later moved onto a 1980 ss440 that sled was red and the best looking of them all imo. Found a great deal on a 79 exciters which was surprisingly quite a bit quicker then the ss. Then I went off to my favorite sled of all my 1980 srv 540, it was blue with pinstripes on the hood. Man I wish I still owned all these sleds, something about the old Yamahas always excited me, the Sleds of today are great but I would trade my 2017 summit for those sleds in a heartbeat.

@dsrutherford9197
@dsrutherford9197 4 года назад
SnowTrax TV Yes. I grew up near Watertown NY and we have a family camp on a Big Moose Lake in the central Adirondacks (near Old Forge). We would snowmobile the Town of Webb trails (Old Forge - 500 miles of trails) and the lakes every weekend that the weather would support it. Back in the 1970s and early 80s in NNY you could snowmobile from early December into the end of March. Now the climate has changed enough that it’s hit and miss. They will receive feet of snow and then a few days later it’ll be 55° for days in the middle of February and then drop back down to 10 below. Hard to know when there will be enough snow to support riding. So every winter I tell myself I’m going to drive to Old Forge, get a motel room or stay at my dads camp, and rent a snowmobile but I just never do it. But every year I check the snow cams all winter long, check on the new machines online, follow the weather, trail reports. I really miss it.

Nice Clean older Yamaha's but the 1976 SRX Liquid and the 1975 GPX Free Air were very fast for their time.. My Father still has a 1976 Yamaha Exciter ported milled jugs clutch work .. You have to be careful on a warm day or you will burn a hole in the piston on the opposite d side of the Fan .. Single carb seems too lean in the hot side too rich on the cool side.. I got a Yamaha Attack in 1976 I thought I was getting too old and weak to lift a stuck sled then I realized it weighs about double what the 1976 Exciter weighs ..

Great vid. Here is an interesting bit of history. SRV is the new Yamacat chassis. The snowmobile you showed was an SR FIVE. Watch any of the old Yamaha promotion videos if you need proof. Their lettering was a bit misleading and having an SRX and an SR FIVE at the same time was for sure confusing I'll grant you. That year in particular they made the lettering very hard to tell. Some years it was far easier with 82 probably being the easiest with its very large V. And before you ask, yes the XLV was also XL FIVE. One of the strangest things with the SR FIVE was that even in their own brochures Yamaha would type it out as SRV. Small wonder everyone was so confused.

It still has the Yamaha triple for its heart. Barring any tunnel bending collisions, that sleds gonna be around a long time!

@@rustyshackleford1091 I'd say Cat takes a close second to Yamaha. Saw quite a few M7's with 10k, on factory top end, but the Yamaha triple and 4 cylinder 4 strokes, are 20k plus engines. The Yamaha 700 triple 2 strokes also run forever, except the 05 ish viper's, that needed center cylinder head gasket mod, and jetting fixed, So it didn't pop the center cylinder after power valves were included.

Dmax 75 I’m sorry my answer was short haha. I have an enticer 250 and that thing is great. I’ve also got a VMax 600 and I’ve ridden a VMax 4,Phazer, RX1, and many others. Arctic cats have just always been my go to. They are all I’ve ever raced.I hope they keep working together though, They put out some awesome sleds like the sidewinder and thundercat. I’ve just always liked my zr 600 more. To each their own!

Dmax 75 Also, I’ve been looking for an m8 with a 153, and do you have any suggestions for breaking in a sled? I just rebuilt the top end on a zl 600 and looking for advice.

A snow machine named after a snake that lives where it never snows seems wrong.

I work for BRP Ski-doo in Valcourt,Quebec(Canada). I am sure Yamaha is a very good machine, but they only have about eight percent of the snowmobile world market. Hence, Yamaha snowmobiles are in a niche market segment. Furthermore, I wonder if Yamaha inc. either in the USA or Canada, employs fifteen hundred workers like BRP Ski-doo does ? ? I like Yamaha, but I also like my paycheck and I don't believe that Yamaha inc. employs very many people here in North America. Period !
