When I clicked this video I though it was going to be you going around and having fun, but was I wrong. This video was really inspiring and just made me see that you don't need to follow other people's standards for what you can be. You are so inspirational and your amazing because of it .
hey Cath watching this video just make me really miss you. I really want to thank you for all the amazing work you put into the CiC project. I will be a college freshman this fall and just want to thank you for all the inspirations you offered.
Cath! Thank you so much for attacking the intersection of academia and emotional life. So often the two are treated like separate parts of the college experience when they influence each other all over the place. Thank you! And to having the best junior year imaginable.
Hey Cath! So I'm a freshman at Stanford this year, and I've been experiencing some of the same things. Even if I haven't had to pick a major yet or anything (thank goodness ahhh), I've also felt kind of intimidated by the techie/fuzzy divide here. It's difficult to avoid feeling kind of like a dunce because I'm not so great at math, I like reading A LOT, I didn't suffer my way through chem, CME, or 106A this quarter like most of my friends did, etc. I mostly just felt kind of dumb and that the way I'm "smart" isn't valid to most people, if that makes sense. I don't know - this comment turned out kind of long, but I wanted to thank you for making this video. I always appreciate your honesty and courage, and this particular video really hit home for me. You're the bomb
I'm currently going into my sophomore year of college and was feeling a little worried about the obstacles that may lie ahead. But this video has not only made me excited about my school, but also has gotten me excited to see whats next. You really encouraged me to except change and grow from it rather than fear it and for that I thank you:) Plus its my Bday so im extra ready to kick life in the face lol.
I'm a new subscriber I randomly just came across this video now as I am going through my own sophomore year slump in college... and I must say that now I am incredibly motivated to turn it around. Thank you for being so real and honest. This is exactly what I needed to hear, and the timing of this couldn't be better!
Cath, this video truly hit home for me. I believe your message about staying true to yourself can be practical for many incoming college students, and students in general. By you sharing your own story about how you didn't allow the perceptions of others, you are equipping all of your viewers and readers with the power to live to their full potential in their endeavors. Thank you so much for this video, your story, and your message. Keep up the great work! You have amazing things coming!
'PEACE OUT AND ENJOY YOUR LIFE' IS A CATCHY OUTRO. Man I'm really sorry that I went overboard on all caps. But I'm happy to see you like dis and it put a smile on my face. You continue to inspire and invigorate. GET IT GIRL
It is so nice to see that you were able to overcome the Fuzzy vs. Techy dilemma. As someone who wants to major in art history (class of 2021... REA accepted! YAY!), I'm relieved that I will be able to pursue the humanities, despite Stanford being a primarily STEM school.
This video was so great! It was so nice for you to get personal with us and let us know what was going on! I am immensely proud of you and everything you have accomplished! You are beautiful and you are strong! You deserve to be at Stanford and will use your experience to do great things and I cannot wait to see where you will go! Much love boo boo
I think it's so cool that you are able to articulate your thoughts like this and be confident enough to share them with us. Thank you for your videos Cath!
This is so sweet, Cath. I love the authenticity you speak with. I understand the whole stem-focus you talked about. I’m someone that’s interested in pursuing comp sci or engineering and some of that is definitely because it seems like I’d learn skills and that would be employable and useful. But, I know that’s not the only approach to education. I like how you talk about feeling like you depended on others for happiness and then how you took ownership of your happiness. Have a great final term at Stanford
I had a very very similar situation. I first signed up as an Economics major because I wanted the technical application, bluntly, for my resume because I did not think a humanities major would get me a job. My father is a very successful business man so his influence was pretty heavy during my early college journey. I took sociology as my minor because I took a class with my now advisory and fell in love. It was similar to media and communications but with a sociology narrative. I did amazing in my minor and had a very rough time getting through my major. I actually was a "senior" when I decided to drop it. It was completely miserable and I just hated everything about econ at that point. Don't get me wrong I find the subject interesting, just not my passion. The only downfall with switching my major was having to face my dad and staying in college for another year but it was the right decision. I'm graduating May of 2018 after taking a semester off to organize myself and decide if this decision was what I wanted but looking back it was the best decision I've ever made. Only extending my education an extra half a year on paper, full year with the break, was more than worth it. We don't have an econ minor at my institution so I ended up picking up a concentration in east asian studies along with the sociology major, so I'm full on humanities.
love this reflection! I would love to hear why you decided to drop the communications major because I was thinking about majoring in that (I'm currently a rising high school senior) also if you could compare it to your new major that would be great! Thanks💖
Loved this video and all of your videos really! Just wanted to let you know that you inspired me to start a blog chronicling my experiences at your rival school (#GoBearsBeatStanford). It definitely won't be as hip and cool as yours, but I do hope that some aspects of my personality are revealed in my writing, just as your personality is revealed in everything you produce.
Not to mention a guy who studied Chinese Calligraphy... you know? He's that guy that revolutionised 6 industries, especially in Silicon Valley.... he's Steve Jobs :D
You should really watch the movie "Liberal Arts" (or the trailer at least) featuring teenage heartthrob Zac Effron, if anything that might make you feel better Catherine :))
