Aside from having some nice "vintage" op amps, they usually contain a pair of chips that are somewhat sought after and can be pricey at times.

Thanks for watching! Salvaging parts from thrift store finds seems like a popular thing, especially among those looking for old desirable parts that are no longer in production. The treasure hunt aspect makes it a lot of fun!

Years ago when I was getting back into electronics I use to hit up fleamarkets, thrift stores and even grabbed electronics from the trash and stripped them down for parts. Don't just keep an eye out for the ICs but keep an eye out for Transistors as well. A lot of transistors aren't made anymore like the SK Germanium series. Another way to find some parts is buying electronic parts mystery boxes. For 10 to 20 bucks you can stock up on a bunch of passive parts and at times find some hard to find parts. You can even toss the parts you don't want back on eBay or whatever to get some money back. I've done that a couple of times, bought a 10 dollar box then take what I wanted and put it back up on eBay for 5 bucks.
