Hello people,
Have you ever wondered where does Gello Sailor find all of these vintage components?
Well in this video we take a look at the Robers R200 vintage transistor radio. I take you through what components I like to reclaim along with a healthy dose of my random musings along the way.

these radios have all the parts required to make a Brian May / Queen style "Deacy" amp

Yeah, absolutely, mate. I do plan on converting a few of them. The problem is that they are an absolute goldmine for Rangemaster components, too. I did consider making a few Ruby Amp circuits in them.

Spotted one of these the other day. Getting itchy fingers to give this sort of thing a try! Thanks for sharing Joe. 🤘

@@hellosailoreffectsofficial Hey Joe. Afraid I didn’t. Landed a gig that’s made me focus all my time on getting the chops back up to match fitness as it were. The tinkering (my level, very much not yours!) is on the back-burner until that’s out of the way at the end of June. Be getting back to my neglected soldering iron then! Hope you’re well.

Great to hear you got a good gig mate. I love that you are focusing on the important stuff for success. Soldering irons are for people like me who can't play 🤣 I'm happy just soldering along ha ha.

Hello, thank you very much for the video, it is very cool, I didn't understand that about putting one transistor on top of another when they were low hfe. I love your pedals, they are the best! a big hug from Peru

Hello mate, Firstly thank you very much for the kind words. Here is a link to a diagram that explains all. Hope that helps and feel free to ask anything else. Joe

You & Loe got the right idea finding & reclaiming old components. First off, the search and hunt is cool, then of course if you can find parts that work, you get killer parts. Hope you’re well my friend, talk to ya soon. -Aaron

I hate to say it but i have nearly enough germanium transistors now that i might just consider not buying any more for a little while...unless i see a really good deal or one i cant get hold of often...oh sod it, i'll buy any i can get my hands on Main supplies are job lots of old components or old test kit or old electronics engineers who have sadly passed and left behind quality street boxes full of germanium transistors in their sheds, i also recently got all the transistors out an old ibm1401 and although they were basically part numbers unknown to fuzz the first handful went into a zonk and it sounded as good as the tone bender i made after collecting oc81ds and searching for only the perfect gain and hfe for feckin months. I agree with what you said about carbon comps btw! I started using them as it was like...maybe they add tone? But the amount of noisy circuits i got it just wasnt worth it. The very cheapest 1% resistors off ebay are better than having a dodgy carbon comp in there.

Absolutely mate. The old TV repair man's stash are always the best finds. I've never reclaimed any from that. I will keep my eye our. Especially if you got a good Zonk out of it. I really find modern carbon films sound damn close

How much do the radios cost???
@hellosailoreffectsofficial

I think I paid about £20 for this one but it really varies depending on the condition and what parts have been changed already. Ebay is your best friend here 😉

Why don't you use the transformers? The power amp is more a less Brian May's Deacy amp.

I just built a deacy off a layout i saw online, sounded awful. I found another layout i want to give a go so i'll keep an eye out for an r200...handful of unobtanium germanium part nos plus a good power transformer! Hooray :)

I may very well do that mate. Thing is, my main focus is on guitar effects pedals so I generally put my focus there.
