James Cagney stars as a movie usher-turned gangster-turned movie star in this comic send-up of both Hollywood gangster films and Hollywood itself. Movie theater usher Dan Quigley (Cagney) quickly learns that it's better to join the mob than become its victim. But with the police hot on his heels, he heads to California, where he soon lands leading roles as a gangster.
