Great Moment! There is so much to life's experiences that we can easily miss out on if we don't let them into our consciousness, even if just for a moment.
This loon is using the tremolo call which is usually a distress call. Perhaps a boat, kayak or canoe was too close and the loon was trying to protect the nest and/or chicks. It is probably the female considering she is using the tremolo. Whereas the male can also use the tremolo in addition to the yodel. If it is the male in the video, he would have yodelled. Females don’t yodel.
I remember my first encounter with the beautiful soulful sound of the Loon. 1963 on our second wedding anniversary, tent camping with my high school sweetheart (wife) at Cranberry Lake, in the western Adirondacks, New York state. We also encountered the chipmunks running all over our tent in the night, keeping us awake. I'll never forget the bear, that woke us up at 4 AM, which thankfully turned out to be a very large female raccoon sitting on top of the 55 gallon garbage can.
