Hello. I got an important piece of advice here. It is actually _not_ a good idea to turn the focus ring all the way to one side before removing the rear lens. This way there is a possibility that the lens falls out of the helicoid cage when you pick up the lens assembly. To prevent this, it is actually advisable to put the focus ring somewhere in the middle, and place marks on the lens case or take a photo to capture its position for further re-assembly.
Maaan I just fixed my 35mm after watching this video and the one where you clean the blades in a 50mm. Those give me the knowledge and courage to do it, and it works even better than before. The focus is super sharp now. Many, many thanks for your knowledge
Well I fixed the aperture thanks to your video, but I seem to have done something to my auto focus. It squeaks and does not find focus well. You don’t happen to know an obvious answer to what I messed up do you?
Thanks for your video very useful for my 1.8, anyway my problem is on gears while focusing a weird noise come from motor like a mouse squeak i tried put very little lithium grease on gears, but noise still coming from focus motor anyway lens still focusing good just the noise is the problem i still have.
Thanks for your videos. I am using this video to attempt a repair with a focus issue. The rear lens element keeps sliding backwards when focused forward. What is supposed to hold the rear lens in place in the cylindrical plastic housing? I can only focus by pointing the camera down with the aid of gravity. Hope this question makes sense as it is difficult to put into words. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
You helicoid mechanism is not assembled correctly. There are two grooves on the lens body, the notch on the helicoid must go _between_ the grooves, not above or below. If you put the lens above the grooves, the focus will sort of work, but the rear lens will slide back when camera is pointed upwards. Also, your focus range is smaller than it should be.
Do you happen to know the name of the plastic ring that surrounds the contact bridge? I need to replace it in my 35mm lens. You talk about it at the 5:08 minute mark.
Thanks so much for the video, is the 50mm f / 1.8 G af-s very different from this 35mm lens? A lint of dust appeared on my lens, I will need to open it to clean ...
I have a problem with my 35mm. Autofocus stopped working. After dissembling and cleaning motor with alcohol stucking effect increased. I've kept away rubber gasket from motor, spinning became much smoother, but after assembling - motor sound barely audible and autofocus still not working. Also, I've noticed oil-like lubricant cover on the 4-way autofocus slide-track (autofocus contacts): is it ok, or should I clean it? Also my lens gives error during "m/a" mode. Should I replace the motor? (Sorry for my English)
Hi i was wondering , will the lens work without the mask . Will the vighneting get smaller without a mask . The mask is only for dust protection or it have mechanical purpose to reduce the mouvement ???
Hi, thanks for a great video! Any idea why after fixing the autfocus motor, cleaning it, it won't even move a little anymore after assembling a lens? What part might be causing the problem? I've checked all connections and everything seems OK. Thoughts? Thanks!
I have a little request: do you know how to get to the shutterbox of a nikon fe2? The blades of one of my shuttercurtains don't fully close. I can't find a video anywhere on how to dismantle the fe2. Thanks in advance.
Hi mikeno62, could you guve a tutorial for cleaning the AF-s nikkor 50mm 1:1.8 G? The non DX version is slightly different from this one and i cannot get the front lens open to clean it. Thank you
