Thanks so much Adrian, I found it really exciting but at the same time relaxing to watch you paint this beautiful scene, I escaped from the world's troubles for a while, thanks for that. I always enjoy your choice of music too :-)
What an expressive landscape! I was thinking noooo! when you reworked the burnt sienna focal point... but those last dark dots and dashes were genius! Your hands spend more time on mixing the paint and getting the brush loaded and ready and moving around away from the paper, then suddenly something explodes into the picture, just nano-seconds of creating the outer counterpart to the inner vision. Absolutely fascinating! Beautiful painting. Many thanks.
Thank you so much for you encouraging feedback. When I look back at videos of myself painting I am always surprised how little time the brush touches the paper. I find painting with quick rapid marks helps to generate movement and energy within a painting and helps to avoid overworking.
Thanks so much for your video. It's very inspiring to watch you paint. I keep watching so I can learn to paint fast and loose. I love your style of painting.
Just watching the process of this painting coming to life is mesmerising. I have watched it over and over trying to see if there is any way I could manage a version of this with my brushes but alas, I think not. I just adore this painting and I will continue to watch it until some day I have the courage to take up a brush and start my clumsy effort to create those tiny touches of magic that you apply that seem so small and almost unintentional but that make the painting really cohesive. Did a version of your 'Cow Parsley' which in my books was a roaring success (for me) 😁. I just love your technique and the colours you often use. Thank you so much for your generosity in sharing all of this with us :-)
Thank you so much for your kind and encouraging comments. I plan to start a Patreon group in September for online tuition please let me know if you think this would be of interest to you and I’ll let you know when the group launches. Thanks again for watching my RU-vid Videos.
Thank you, Adrian, I really enjoyed watching this, excellent choice of music as well, very relaxing, love the expressiveness of your style, and the loose quality of the piece!
Adrian I'm so glad to have found you I'm an intermediate watercolour artist. I am in complete contrast live in East London nearby forest and parkland. Your expressive tree video mark making started me onto thr road of expressive watercolour. Thank you
Hi Leila thanks for the positive feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed my mark-making video, I was hoping to show you don't need expensive brushes and materials to create paintings. Thanks again for viewing Adrian
Hi Jill no I don't usually wey my paper first I tend instead to strat with a pale wash which I then apply darker richer mixes into. Thanks for viewing Adrian
Hi Carol my paintings are created from a series of sketches and photographs of the landscape. I try to focus my works on places I know well as this allows me to add personal emotive responses in my paintings. Thanks for viewing Adrian
Hello, I really like the freshness of your paintings and the expressiveness of the stains. Could you share the image that inspired this painting? Thank you
Hi Ester thanks for viewing, I tend to work from black and white sketches that have been created from elements taken from a number of different photos and from the memory of being in the location.
I adore your work....... loved to watch the whole journey.....thank you. What brush do you start off with? And I love the music.... who is it? thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for viewing and for your positive feedback. The brush used at the beginning of the video is a goat haired Chinese brush purchased from Jackson's Art, I have included a link in the video description. The Ambient music is called The Golden Present by Jesse Gallagher from RU-vid's royalty free collection.
Hi John I usually work from a mixture of plein air sketches, memory and photographic references. I also try to allow the paint to direct me a little. Establishing where the lights and darks should go is key and limiting your palette helps to create harmony within a painting. Thanks for watching.
Hi John I originally started painting small due to space restrictions. I also found as I was developing skills with watercolour that smaller sheets of paper were less daunting than a half or full sheet. I have slightly more space now and do intend to scale up my work a little. Thanks for viewing Adrian
Hi thanks for viewing. I usually paint from a mixture black and white sketches and colour photos and painted sketches. I always paint locations I have visited myself, this allows me to add a personal interpretive response to my work.
Hi Sue I was just using a stick of heather taken from the moor to scratch into the paint. Other marks were created with a Sword Liner Brush. I hope that helps thanks for viewing.
Hi Bill thank you for watching. I quite often make marks onto the paper which subsequently become covered with paint; I find that the marks made into the paper with a stick or pencil will fill a little with pigment and create a subtle mark that still shows through the paint.
