Just finished training with Guro Edwin Rodriquez of The Texas Defense Academy located in Benbrook in my home in Keller, Texas. Edwin's lesson was on a Lop Sao (Sau) or Grabbing Hand Reflex Drill which incorporates the Bong Sao (Sau) or "Springing Hand", the Gua Chui "Back-Fist", as well as, the Wu Sao (Sau) or "Guarding Hand' in Wing Chun Kung-Fu that I learned from my instructor, Sifu Tim Tackett. Trapping occurs when there is STOPPAGE like a BLOCK.
During this drill the partner doing the Lop Sao (Sau) yanks his partner's wrist toward his body with a downward and twisting motion of the hip. The Lop Sao (Sau) can be done on the outside, as well as, on the inside of your partner's arm. Just be sure to keep your rear hand up to protect your face and always spring forward with you Bong Sao (Sau) when you feel the yank. As time gones on, partners can execute straight punches, kicks, knees, as well as, breaks to the arm when it's being pulled. You can also incorporate Lan Sao (Sau) the "Arm Bar" or Gum Sao (Sau) the "Pressing Hand". Please be sure to wear a mouth-piece, a cup, and use some type of protective gloves that allows you to grab when practicing this drill.
(I prefer the clothe gloves)

I've been very fortunate to have trained under the late JKD Great Bob Bremer and have had the honor of training under JKD Sifu Tim Tackett since the EARLY eighties. I keep seeing new things as I practice JKD and I LOVE how Sigong Bruce Lee's Methodology toward self defense allows me the FREEDOM to explore. Please stay in touch. If you ever find yourself in Keller, Texas, please let me know.

@@papamike3627 Yeah man will do! I live in the UK but Texas is on list on places to go. Tried doing a bit of self teaching but was skeptical of some RU-vidrs authenticity.

@@KielCrassusif you want to learn JKD look into Tommy Carruthers in Glasgow. He has online lessons as well. Jesse Glover, Bruce Lee’s first student considers Tommy the only person to ever come close to Bruce in terms of movement and attributes so check him out.

@@da90sReAlvloc All martial arts are related in one way or another, but, Wing Chun was developed by a Female Monk and I'm sure Kenpo has some form of trapping, but, to be honest, I'll have to claim ignorance since I've never studied it. But, of course, I have heard of the great Ed Parker.

It's ok if the sole purpose is fitness. Saying as an ex wing chun practitioner. Absolutely no applicability to real fighting otherwise.

I totally respect Wing Chun and welcome you to my home in Keller, Texas to experience how applicable this is for instilling tactile realistic street confrontations. I have students NO joke in several military and law enforcement agencies that have thought that this drill did instilled in them an instinctive tactile sense of response to their adversary's movement. Best to you and yours, really.

@@papamike3627 keep doing what you're doing, I'm an mma fighter and these drills are super cool for developing many things, these haters dislike attribute building drills but are okay with boxers on a speed bag 🤣

I have the HIGHEST respect for MMA fighters. But, this is a very BASIC drill which develops instinctive tactile responsives. It is a prelude to learn how to apply trapping whenever, some one blocks your initial blow. But, NOT everyone blocks. We like MMA fighters, counter punch and kick as the program proceeds and use JKD's inside and outside sliding leverage which is a blow that diverts a strike at the SAME TIME as the strike proceeds to it's target. You are ALWAYS welcomed to my home here in Keller, Texas, where we BOTH can exchange knowledge and perhaps create a friendship. I'm over 70, but, I am ALWAYS willing to LEARN and make new friends. Enjoy your Memorial Day, as a Veteran, it means a lot to me and hope you will give the RESPECT that is due those who have given the ultimate sacrifice.
